The theatrics and drama in most black metal sub genres is why I fell in love with it.

What really blows my mind is can you imagine how much work it took everyone involved to put this show together.

As a techhead and occasional roadie, the sheer magnitude of tech setup and orchestration for this is just making me drool as much as the music itself.

His face when Agnete first sings and the "who's that!?" Is exactly how the rest of us were the first time we heard this song.

You’ve got to love the brass section in this song. And overall it is stunning.

A bit softened compared to this song of theirs...Kings of carnival creation ozzfest 2004, song starts at 9:08 plus you get the full half hour set, new Dimmu is great just different and no as raw and furious. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoPGi2Oha5h2mqM

I saw them in the 90's in Netherlands, at Dynamo Open Air, one of the largest metal festivals at that time (>100,000 people) that was brutal 😃

I love how every reaction video of this song goes :O when Agnete starts singing. Not ONE single video without this reaction.

i keep commenting this on different reactions to this specific vid. this is not only Dimmu Borgir, but also the national orchestra and national choir of norway. aired on NRK the norwegian vertion of "The BBC" and "jerv" is the band the female singer is known from. also norwegian before anyone asks

Someone was way off with "neo-classical melodic death metal" since when it comes to metal sub-genres, they're titles or categories rather than adjectives. You could describe it with those words separately, but combining them into a genre name doesn't work like that. Neo-classical metal refers to metal where the metal instruments (guitar, drums, bass) are playing parts of classical songs or are emulating classical guitar, bass and drums (usually it's about the guitar and bass primarily). If you have an orchestra doing that, it's called symphonic metal, regardless of how classical or neo-classical it actually is. Also melodic as an identificator to death metal refers to Göteborg metal, meaning the combination of power metal and death metal. Dimmu has no power metal elements, except perhaps the guitar solo a little bit. And Shagrath is doing a black metal growl, which isn't at all the same as death metal growling techniques. The mechanics of getting the growl are fairly similar but the black metal growl isn't supposed to sound inhuman, just evil. So symphonic black metal it is. Some black metal elitists will claim there are no black metal adjacent sub-genres, but that would mean that if you add literally anything to black metal, it immediately becomes death metal, which obviously makes no sense. Neo-classical metal refers to the metal itself being neo-classical. Symphonic refers to the orchestra being symphonic or classical. Melodic refers to power metal or old school melodic heavy metal. Death metal isn't black metal. Black metal also isn't death metal. I hope this clears it up for somebody who reads this.

Saw these guys way back when Nicolas Barker and ICS Vortex just joined the band. Welcome to the rabbit hole of this type of Symphonic Black Metal. Great reaction Charlie! I also recommend Emperor-With Strength I Burn Live Wacken 2006 Also you could do Fleshgod Apocalypse and Septicflesh. Dimmu Borgir is a big influence on Francesco of Fleshgod Apocalypse.

What I really like with Dimmu Borgir is that Shagrath's growling is like really clear and accentuated... you really doesn't need to be like a hardcore Black Metal fan to make out what he's singing... compare this with bands like Dark Funeral or Mörk Gryning where you really have to concentrate (if you're not reading the lyrics from the booklet and or find the lyrics on the web somewhere) to hear wvat they're singing... with Shagrath and Dimmu, you don't need to do this... and that's a real plus. Mind you, I have listened to a whole lot of black and death metal, it really is my goto genre... but I've found that Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth and Borknagar are some of the easiest bands to listen to if you come for the lyrical aspect of the music and want to be able to hear the lyrics when sung. 👍👍

This was a great ABBA cover👌 DEFINITELY check out FLESH GOD APOCALYPSE 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Whilst they might not have enough " singing" aside from the Opera Singer☝️ That they employ within 50-60% of their discography... She is featured more prominent in selective songs however ☝️ That has more applications to the plight of the channel...✍️ Definitely worth the rabbit hole... Musicians that literally can all switch instruments on a dime live... They do just that live🤘
