Everyone, I seriously don't know what to say, but I'm gonna give it a shot... I was not expecting a response like this from the online community. For me personally, this wasn't just another reaction. Truly. I've been building up to this for about 3 months now, after this song was first suggested when I started my channel. But I wanted to take my time, and I'm glad I did. This one didn't feel the same. It felt like a huge undertaking and like I was getting ready to present my dissertation to prove myself to an online audience from all over the world. I honestly can't describe the emotional rollercoaster I went through with this video, not just while filming, but the 8-10 hours I spent editing it afterwards and looking up more info as I went. I've read every comment that has been posted so far. ALL OF THEM. And I'd love to reply to all of them, but it would probably take just as much time as it did to make this video, if not longer. But what I will say... I'm absolutely moved by them. A lot of you have shared your emotions about the song, and even bared your own hearts and souls with personal things that you relate this song to. It's almost overwhelming, but in the best way possible. THIS IS THE POWER OF MUSIC. It strikes certain emotions, reminds us of good and bad times, helps us through those times, and brings us together. And this band in particular, is just magical. I don't even look at Nightwish in the same way that I was in the previous 14 videos I've done. Tuomas is an absolute creative genius, and these band members are living LEGENDS. Whether it's through comments, sharing these videos, Patreon, Twitch, or just spending your time with us on Discord, I appreciate all of the support you guys have given me along the way, and I will continue trying my hardest to bring you enjoyment out of my love for music and discovering new things along the way. We Finns don't need to read the backstory, because it's in our blood. It was a true national grief at the time. Even our Prime Minister commented it. However i think that "the Gathering of the three Musketeers" at the end is nowadays merely part of the show than actual worry about Tuomas's wellbeing. The song itself is very powerful and emotional in all possible ways. "Be still, my son, You're home. Oh when did you become so cold?.." makes me 😭 every time. Well done, Tank!

A national heartache for Finland, and this divine band is not in mainstream radio play or much known in the US. They deserve huge stadium play here, just like in SA and across Europe. This song made me physically nervous at the first listen when the album came out and it still did this time watching. Live, it was almost unbearable. Maybe because I myself was going through a hard time in 2005 - I was at the verge of ending my time on this earth and suddenly stumbled over Nightwish(rather like Nemo was smacked into my face and woke me up, making me reconsidering my priorities and, long-term, figuring life is what you make of it, not what others want to make your life be - that was actually a month before they disbanded with Tarja). I instantly felt some odd connection to Tuomas simply by looking at the band picture in the booklet from the CD I bought, not even knowing yet that he's the one who wrote the musical force that drowned me in enlightenment. (heck that sounds cheesy but I don't think I can describe it any other way lol) Of course I did my research and emotionally went along the downwards spiral, almost suffocating on my first listen to PatP with the booklet in hands. Probably STANDING next to my CD player wasn't such a good idea, in retrospect. But the feeling remains to this day. Sometimes more, sometimes less, depending on the situation and mental state I'm in when listening. This time, once again, my mouth was trembling so bad I could barely breathe - paired with the urge not to breathe so my breathing doesn't make me miss any fraction of a second, it's almost hilarious. The brain can be a wicked place and pull all other body functions along; it's fascinating. I'm nowhere near the black hole I was in in 2005 and still it strikes me, there, as I'm riding the rainbow that my life is currently. This particular performance of the song doesn't make it easier either. Those musical harmonies just throw me into a rampaging tempest and I left my life vest on land, knowing it wouldn't help me anyway AND that I'd get washed ashore by my own tears eventually anyway, when the last note fades. I totally get that this piece got you even more emotional while editing - and that is explained easily: the first listen is just too much for the brain to process. Regarding your note to "metalheads not seeing Nightwish as metal enough", yes, sadly the majority of people who ACTIVELY listen to music, still don't really listen. They hear the music, they can sing or hum along, know the words, the melodies - but they only hear, rather than listen. Whether it be because they don't care, don't want, don't want to care, are afraid to bother - is out of question. They just don't, at a certain point in time. It might change, or not. But you sadly also cannot force someone to actually LISTEN. Empathy cannot be elicited. And there it is. The reason why I mostly don't comment. If I do, it's prone to become a novel. Yet I'm glad to have found, with you, another person on this planet who indeed LISTENS to music. And that I am thankful for. Continue what you love to do and never stop being yourself.

WHAAAT??? I CAN'T BELIEVE... You had Wintersun "Time" in the background during the intro. Excellent choice, fits perfectly (Sorry, couldn't help myself there 😀). The light show - When the gauntlet was in full swing there was nowhere Tuomas could hide, everyone was looking for him and wanted to see his head on a plate. Even the President of Finland was asked about his oppinion on the dismissal of Tarja. The light show illustrate that perfectly, seeking high and low and everywhere. As I understand it, "The Poet..." is still in the Nightwish reportuare but it is not played at every concert. Should you happen to be at a concert were it is played you should be honoured. Worth pointing out is that the crowd isn't jumping around and screaming and shouting after the song as they do with other Nightwish songs. The crowd is fairly quiet and mostly just applauding respectfully instead. Cheers / B.

Yes, Floor has said that the band members are her brothers. The band members also see Floor as their sister. Floor also said that the band and the management welcomed her with open arms from the beginning. Wich helped her build up her confidence that she could pull off what they were asking of her.

The first time I heard Floor sing this, she got me at "Sparkle my scenery..."; eyes leaking, runny nose. Then she sang "Tuck me in..." and I completely lost it. Gasping for breath, a blubbering heap, I had to leave the room to compose myself. I don't think I have _ever_ been hit so hard by a performance. I'm 64, dammit; I'm supposed to be a life-hardened, cynical old git, but Floor can do me in every time she sings. I loved Tarja (still do), but she never brought out the emotions that Floor so consistently does. ** There are only two genres: good music and not-good music. All else is bookkeeping. ** You haven't done Dead Boy's Poem, yet, have you? That one'll hit you in the feels, too. Do the Buenos Aires 2018 version. I'd also recommend Tarja singing Swanheart (not the solo version, though). I don't think there are any with decent video quality, but it's a lovely song, too often overlooked, IMO.

Ah, you do as you like and that´s okay. Your job isn´t to entertain us, your job is to enjoy the music with us together. The amount of "hype-reactors" taking on ghost love story, just for the views, whilst having nothing to say at all, is just absurd though. In tank's reactions you see a real connection to music. I'd say Alpenglow live at Wembley would be worth checking out! I've never seen anyone do that one and it's a great companion piece to The Greatest Show on Earth. It's a super underrated song it seems, but i think Tuomas himself said it's the "perfect" Nightwish song with all the elements a Nightwish song should have. Ps. When you do get around to The Greatest Show on Earth, go with Tampere version even though it's not official off the band's own channel. Tampere has a lot more stuff for you specifically to break down, and they play the original arrangement of the song. Wembley version is good too but i think you can appriciate the Wembley version more if you already know the song.

One interesting interpretation of this song is that the part "V. Mother and Father" is about heaven or afterlife where the previously died parents comfort the newly killed poet. Tuomas is openly secular atheist so he probably wasn't thinking this interpretation but I think the words may be even more sad with that interpretation.

Tuomas has said in an interview that he had specific interpretation in mind while writing the lyrics but he will not declare that publicly to allow every interpretation to be equally valid for each fan.

As far as vocal metal is concerned there are many types of metal as you know, but I think that only a certain percentage of metal vocals have a raspy voice. Floor Jansen being one good example from Nighwish, which is a Symphonic metal band as you know. This is my own personal opinion on Lovebites. This band has only been around for 3 years. It was formed in 2017 and has still to prove itself as one of the best metal bands in a generation. In time I think they will acomplish that. 5 incredibly gifted musicians gelling together usually means only one thing. A world class band that usually stamps their mark on music history. As far as the vocalist is concerned I disagree that she has a childish voice. Out of all the personal reviews that I have read I have never come accross anyone calling her voice childish. This is what makes Asami unique. She is not a copycat of every metal band that has a raspy voice, I would not change a thing between these 5 incredibly gifted ladies. They are 5 of a kind , as their latest latest Live album (DVD/Blueray) which was released in July 2020 is titled. Here are another couple of songs from that incredibe album. Emppu is also a trickster, and I know you've done a reaction to "I want my tears back" but if you see their version from Wacken, there is a part where he turns off Floor's in-ears as he crosses the stage, and when he's on his way back you can see Floor keep an eye on him. I see you posted this a year ago...forgive me, I've just discovered Nightwish a month ago, and I hate that I've missed having this genius in my life. 1st, dude...Best reaction ever with the headbanging! I live in the desert and cut all my hair off yrs ago, alittle envious! And your comments are very thoughtful. I set out 6mos ago, as therapy for depression, to watch every Rammstein (they make me happy!) reaction on KZbin and stumbled onto this band. I get pure JOY seeing ppl react to greatness! I'm no real singer, but I've taught myself to sing this song (thanks for my 85yr old rocker mom who is a gorgeous soprano!) and I'm able now to do the entire chorus phrasing with one small breath after 'shoulder'... pretty proud about it! So glad the last line of the song is "The Beginning". The song brings me to a dark time in my own life, yet finishing with those words and having Floor sing me a lullaby makes me feel warm. Tuomas is a genius. BTW I loved your reaction. Now it's time to chop more onions!!

I had this song as an alarm clock on my old Nokia waking me every morning... I enjoyed how the music builds up at the start of the song, starts quiet and builds up... Anyway it is my TOP 1 (or TOP3) song from Nightwish, because it is so complex and a whole epic emotional journey, something you do not hear in radio with less than 3 minutes pop songs. And so much more powerful with the backstory.

Ever Dream from End Of An Era is still my go-to version of the song, because I love the combo with Tarja+Marco and because of all the feels Tuomas (and I) has in that time and place, I can't even imagine what he went through on that day. I really hope Tank would react to that as well one day. For me, it will always be a "Tarja song" (mainly because my fandom started around 1998, and because of the End Of An Era event) even if Floor crushes it as well and I loved hearing her sing the old stuff at the Decades tour.

I don't watch this concert much as they are clearly not themselves throughout...Nightwish are always and were always a joyous band even with the serious topics of some of the songs they still showed great joy in their performing of the music and it is lacking from this concert. Emppu barely smiles, Marco is extra aggressive in his vocals. It all works but just feels wrong to me. Individual song are fine but I find the whole concert brings me down.

As her classically trained soprano voice was the element that made Nightwish unique and famous, IMHO she became way too convinced about that she is NW, and that there's no band without her... So, most probably, it never even crossed her mind that she might be fired (and that she might be fired like this), altough, on the other hand, she was openly planning to leave the band, she decided to record one more, last album with them.

I would say do "Master Passion Greed" next, for the anger side of this same period. The song is heavy as hell, features Marco on lead vocals, with some backing vocals on the chorus, etc. It's never been performed live, so just the studio version. There is a fan-made video, editing clips of loads of other live performances, but I think the basic audio version is better IMO.

Just as Dirk said, one of the biggest reasons I enjoy your reactions is due to how well your emotions line up with my own. I am thoroughly satisfied with this video, thumbnail and all 🤣 If you want to further explore Tuomas' lyrical catharsis post-Tarja, you can check out Bye Bye Beautiful (which many consider a quintessential Annette song) and Master Passion Greed (written about Tarja's husband, who I understand is blamed for Tarja's attitude change that led to the breakup). Chase finally did Dark Chest of Wonders, which would be an unrelated pivot, but still an excellent follow-up. Once, I had a dream...and this is it. If you feel like throwing in a bonus round of Nightwish, Tribal might be somewhat fitting for Halloween, at least given the video content 😆 Aside from that, I'd love to see you pick off some of the more obscure stuff nobody ever reacts to. The entire catalog is worth exploring.

Also, select a version that has all the speech parts at the end. Some versions clip the ending and stop where Floor ends the singing part. Having been in dark places myself, this is just insane. Funnily enough, I did see them live a year before I fell into the rabbit whole. I've heard of them in the 90s, just not my kind of music, so I never really got into them. But, I worked at Wacken to serve a cold brewed one to the lovely people there, LOVED the audience, and my boss and his wife took me to see Nightwishs show in our free time, although I didn't really want to. I know I was standing there nodding my head in appreciation, really enjoying it, I wish I fell into the rabbit hole earlier. It's different when you've had the time to listen to music alone, being overrun at a concert is tough. Anyhow, great reaction, I've watched a few other reactions of you and I really really like them. I know exactly what you mean, I was a radio DJ in my 20s and was dating someone who's father worked at Billboard, he gave us tickets to Dio and I did NOT appreciate what I was experiencing, Dio in a huge sold out stadium venue. I got to see him again playing probably 15 years later in a tiny little club and by that point thankfully I realized this guy was a living legend. I had to stick around after the show to wait for some friends and we were sitting there finishing our drinks and Ronnie walks over with a HUGE grin (that never left his face the whole time) and he asked if we enjoyed the show and asked if he could sit with us. Like... you don't need to ask! He was the sweetest, most down to earth person I ever met. I'm always glad when I give something a real chance, Nightwish is in that category, symphonic wasn't my scene. With maturity you begin to appreciate talent, whatever it sounds like.

I actually think classifying Nightwish as "metal" is often going to cause false expectations. Apart from the fact that you don't have to classify music at all costs, I'm glad that Tuomas doesn't feel bound to any canon of "metal" and ventures beyond the genre. Good music is good music, whatever genre, and nobody has to feel forced by anyone to produce music according to some listeners' expectations. For what it's worth, I'm happy to call Nightwish "rock". If I had to be more specific, I would say "modernized, progressive rock in a metal tradition with folk and musical theater influences and some more metallic tracks, with a lot of production." Also, Nightwish has a fanbase that spans beyond the core metal fanbase.

You were also right about the guys, Emppu and Marco were there to support Tuomas. But probabaly the others already told you this... I follow Nightwish ever since the first album came out. I remember when the news broke that Tarja was no longer with Nightwish, the letters, the interviews, Tarja crying on live TV. It was a shock. I think for me it was as big as Mike Portnoy announcing that he was leaving Dream Theater. When this album came out this song was already made me tear up, but Floor was able to add another layer of emotions and this performance makes me cry all the time. You feel it all. Times like these, youtube is something we can all be very thankful for... I honestly can't wait to see them live again!

It is much better that you did this one for yourself. I think Tuomas intends for Nightwish music to become personal stories or journeys to the listener, so you are doing them justice. That was so deep and painful moment in 2005 because they were elementary school friends with Tarja and I think that the mother of Tuomas teached Tarja to play piano during teenage years...being close also by this way.

First time I saw this was Julia Nilon's reaction. For me as a life long musician (32 of which have been bass guitar) I connected to every conceivable aspect of the composition. I absolutely teared up and had to fight (albeit failed miserably) a major battle not to lose it completely. "Mother and Father" really hit hard for me when I first heard it. My loss was not over a bandmate, but my own mother who died after some 20 years of battling horrible auto-immune diseases. The lyric "Be still my son you're home" even now brings me to tears (STOP CHOPPING ONIONS). This entire song is about the stages of grief without a doubt. For those that obsess about the backstory I don't think really get the power of music. They have tunnel vision and "it has to be this or you are wrong" is the wrong attitude. Everyone (and should) personalize the lyrics and song beyond what Tuomas wrote about as I did. That's the grand slam of great composition. To call Tuomas the metal Mozart is an understatement. To call him a genius is an understatement. To call him legendary is an understatement. Composers like him are so rare that words cannot encapsulate. That's why I'll say his band Nightwish is it's own infinite universe.

I have always thought in the end when Marko and Emppu are next to Tuomas they are not checking if he's alright, at this point they know he's alright. I think they just show that when they decided to let Tarja go and what led to the situation the song resulted from, it was the decision of the whole band (Emppu, Marko and Tuomas are the remaining members of that era), not just Tuomas. I had a hard time watching the "End of An Era" DVD when it arrived, knowing what the title meant. I was more focused on body language and such. I had been a huge Nightwish fan for 5 or 6 years when this all happened. When the video for "Bye, Bye Beautiful" came out I figured it was about Tarja before watching it, but was more interested in finding out who Tuomas felt was a suitable replacement. When my deluxe CD of "Dark Passion Play" arrived , this being the first track, I was moved ... But not too thrilled with Annette's vocals.. Then I heard the demo with Marco singing the entire song and was mind blown by his incredible performance, and felt more emotion than the finished track. Enter Floor! Damn, I actually teared up! With her singing I cannot listen to this if I feel down (she conveys emotion all too well!), so I generally stick to the demo version (not to say that I feel down a lot, just a safe bet LOL). Anyway, I enjoyed listening to your reaction while at work, and more so now that I'm home and able to watch it ! Check out the demo version, Marco! As others have suggested, "Master Passion Greed" is very heavy, Tuomas' most pissed off song that will never be played live. "Bye , Bye Beautiful" is an interesting "farewell" song that I believe will never again be performed live. 🤘

Bravo Tank, bravo. Good shit. Tuomas is very much the "tortured artist." Depression/emotional health are frequent demons that chase after him, but that same deep emotion is what allows him to create masterpieces that reach in you and REALLY stir you up. How about this for other Nighwish suggestions, reaching WAY back into their history: "Over the Hills and Far Away" (Gary Moore cover) "End of All Hope" "Tenth Man Down" (A song written before Marko joined!) "Dead Boy's Poem" "Dead to the World"

Tuomas singing with Floor gets me every time. "Try to save them all, bleed no more" is hard on its own, without the pain in his voice, but it's like a punch to the gut hearing him sing that line. Great video, man. Really enjoyed it, and I'm glad you've joined the rest of us on this emotional roller coaster of a song.

this performance is the meaning of the word ART. a true expression of raw passion and feeling articulated with poetry and light and image. defining that fine line between genius and madness, true suffering and angst. the poet lays his heart bare for all to see and feel, it is a pity that such beauty almost always comes from the deepest darkest pits of depression and despair. i feel we owe tuomas a debt of gratitude for revealing himself to us in such a precious way, and to all the band for performing it with strength and tenderness. power and passion.

This is exactly what Emppu was doing, also later Marco and Emppu, going up to Tuomas to give emotional support. 2. I do not watch your reactions for detailed breakdowns, even though I do like the info on the tech side of things. I watch your videos, because of the emotions you have and show. They very much align with my own emotions, so don't worry, I tear up together with you. For the perfect musical breakdown I watch Chase's reactions. It is genius and now they also have Floor, you can grab your heart with her voice and do with it what ever she wants. 8. 28:41 Watch Mike Goodrich's reaction to this song and you will know what the difference is. His reaction is very good and his vocal analysis is perfect, but the emotion is completely different. I've said it before, I'll say it again: the lyric "...1,000 pages of erased text", in and of itself, describes an absolute and utter tragedy. Like, unpublished text or whatever is one thing, but the concept of a poet/author/songwriter/wordsmith/whatever going back and actively _undoing_ *that much* work is damn near unfathomable to me. Line hits harder each time I hear it - it *wails* of desperation and remorse.

YES! You put it so well into words. It's all that could have been, in regards to everything that flew away with Tarja, undone, erased. When something happens in life that changes the course of things forever, destroying any other path that could have been taken, eliminating those possibilities, forever. That one line of 1000 erased pages conveys all that. It's just genius poetry/songwriting/lyricism, and I feel like that's an understatement still.

Great reaction. Rocking the tie and everything 👍. This album was my first introduction to Nightwish. Amaranth was the first song I got into followed by this song. I went in without the background and as I listened I realized it was a dark song. It is like listening to several songs in one. This album will always be near a dear to me. Keep up the great journey. Tank I also jumped down the Nightwish rabbit hole about a year ago. I to am also obsessed with this band now. I can’t think of any other bands that take you on an emotional roller coaster while you are listening to their songs.What a fantastic band. Tank, thank you for being you!!! Enjoy every time you explain the gear the bands are using and giving a open rand real opinion. As a old Dutch metal head I was there when Floortje started with After Forever and saw the development towards Nightwish when I learned she would join them as the singer I knew it was going to be magic. As said, as an old Dutch metalhead I am a lucky guy...did see Within Temptation in there starting time and was at the first album release of Delain. Areyon is there and still performing and all of them still making music. There is only one band would love you to react on. I know nobody will ask you ever to comment on this band, they are Dutch and even are singing in Dutch too. I think they deserve to have a break through or at least should be heard by a wider audience as it would not be fair to keep them only for ourselves in the Netherlands. The band name is Heidevolk. Epic, metal and OMG they are soo good. The band has not the financials yet to be really big but their music has great potential as it is fully real and original. One of their best songs is Wodan heerst. It means Wodan (Odin for the rest of the world not being Dutch) Rules. Thanks Tank, will keep looking out for your comments.
