I'm 41 now so when Colony/Clayman came out I was already in my late teens/early twenties, and this is definitely the soundtrack of that time of my life. It just brings back soooo many memories. In Flames at the time helped me through a lot. And I'll always be grateful to them and respect them even though they lost me long time ago. But this! This is the shit man.

Listening to The Halo Effect makes me feel 20 years younger. Back when In Flames was still awesome. Really looking forward to this album, this will be hubby's belated birthday gift. So happy we'll see them live in September. Tank you'll need to fly over to Europe for this tour.

Man, me and a mate from overseas that i'd known for 7 years were really excited for this song and this band in general ever since they released shadowminds. Feel what i believe was another spot on banger. so we were both very excitingly waiting on the next song and the album. My friend was in a car accident on the 9th of april. just before he send me a msg that this song would release soon so we're both very excited for it. Now i can't listen to this song without getting extremely emotional since that was the last ever msg he send me. Miss ya buddy. And Tank, your videos help me get trough this just that bit easier. It's still incredibly hard, but they help. And i hope you realise this.

Been waiting for this one. Every last one of their singles have given me chills. You describing that it feels like discovering In Flames and DT all over again is spot on. One of my first CDs I got for myself when I was like 12 was "Clayman". And I bet when I get my hands on their debut it's gonna feel like I am 12 again. Cool reaction!

The sound just goes straight to my heart... It's like coming home or reuniting with a dear and lost friend from the past. Crazy how music can make you so freaking emotional. All the guys are crazy good but the guitarwork by Jesper just make my heart bleed... It's so beautiful.

I gotta say all three of these reaction videos resonate with me, because I recognize that feeling of "I never thought I'd hear THIS kind of music again": that feeling where you not only like a genre but there's this small micro-segment of a couple of albums that are absolutely head and shoulders above the rest, and then times change and noone even feels like they want to come close to it - and then suddenly out of nowhere, this comes along. Doesn't happen often, and I absolutely understand the cathartic excitement when it does.
@sociallyineptclownprincech87312 жыл бұрын
Definitely a cool band for me to keep an eye on. Very VERY polished melodeath. Vocals are crisp and understandable, instruments are clear and the balance is amazing. Far too often bands try to go for insane distortion on the instruments and harsh vocals that are more harsh than they are understandable. This song feels like the pure essence of melodeath distilled from the grapes of the metal gods.

Man! Love this! That drum and guitar rhythm (I don't know how to call it. I know how to listen and enjoy music but don't know how to describe it) at @03:45 makes me visualize being in a speeding car, view from the side. Each kick of the drums making things flicker and the camera shakes violently, buildings speeding by at the speed of the music. 😍

I've pre-ordered this album so fast... These guys are legends. Do you ever wonder, tho, if you think about it, how lucky we all are? Many people who've grown up fancying a music style or a band, the amount of similar music expanded like... through the roof. And most of it is available for one's ears. And not only there are a shitton of new and exciting music to explore, we still have our legends, like these guys, who had already been making music when i'd shat myself in the panties in the kindergarten, still active and producing amazing songs. I listen to this song, and the same feelings run through me when I first heard a pirate-copied Colony disc in 2001.

I've never really warmed to Dark Tranquility for some reason but I'm always a sucket for old In Flames and all of The Halo Effect's single so far very much tick every single music check-box I have. @Eluarelon2 жыл бұрын
Funny that you played Death of a King in the background, because unless Insomnium and/or Dark Tranquility release a new album this year, I'm pretty sure what my top 2 albums of the year will be. And if anyone can do the impossible and dethrone Amorphis' Halo from the top spot of my list it might be The Halo Effect. Which would be a first, because as far as I'm concerned, Amorphis is pretty much untouchable. But that sound AND Stanne's voice combined is just super awesome.

A good friend of mine, who (funnily enough) was the one to introduce me to In Flames, when we where 15 years old said that listening to these guys feels a bit like "coming home", when I showed him the songs from The Halo Effect. And about Peter's basses: I think he played ESP 6-Strings in the past as well but the Ibanez SR seems to be his go to for some years now.

I couldn't agree more regarding the feeling it gives me. I discovered IF during the Reroute to Remain era, and quickly explored their back catalog with Jester Race, Whoracle, Colony, Clayman and even Subterranean. Long story short, this brings me back to that. I have been binging DT and ATG like crazy since falling in love with old IF. This gives me hope for that classic Gothenburg sound. Quick shout out to Soilwork as well. I don't think they get enough credit. Long live Melodeth! (And yes, I know Soilwork isn't technically out of Gothenburg).

To make a new comment, I hadn't even really heard about these guys until your reaction. Like I said before Civil War sounded like Sabaton 2.0 in their first few albums, so to see that these guys sound like In Flames isn't surprising being that they're all former members. Give it time, I'm sure they'll come into a new sound, but it is nice to hear something similar to Clayman or Reroute to Remain. Brings back many memories of High School, hanging with my metalhead friends in the late 1990's and early 2000's.

I think it's unfortunate that no one mentions Sacrilege, when talking about Daniel Svensson. Their album The Fifth Season (on which Daniel played drums and did the vocals (!)) is a staple in the Gothenburg melodic death metal genre. I regard it as important to the style as any early album from In Flames, Dark Tranquillity or At the Gates. Check it out if you already havent. It's sooo damn good.
