Honestly, the biggest difference between these and an unaltered bullet was how they expanded. The energy between the bullets would be exactly the same, hence the damage would be the same. Note the difference in expansion at 09:38.
@azeissler19876 жыл бұрын
The difference in expansion will make a huge difference in damage. Any hollow point that fails to expand leaves a much smaller wound track and usually passes through. There would be no need for hollow points if FMJ could produce the same damage

When I was 19 I had a long conversation with an old man approaching 90. I grew up in a household FULL of guns. Thought I knew my stuff. This fellow carried a small little .22 revolver in his pants pocket. Said he'd carried it for years. I made some (besmirch) negative comment about his little bitty firearm, He sat me down and "learned" me. Taught me two very important lessons. First shot on target tips the odds in your favor. Accurate shot placement is critical. Try not to panic and hit what you shoot at. Then he told me something that still rings in my head. "Once you dead, it don't matter what size the hole". I'm 67 years old now. Lesson learned..I wish I had as much fun as you fellas do AND get paid for it.

I came about a mod by accident that was rather effective during my youth. I crammed a finishing nail down a Remington Thunderbolt hollow point in an effort to make a .22 penetrate an empty propane canister. What I ended up with was the opposite. It shredded the paint on the exterior and actually left a smaller dent than an unmodified round. I later shot a fair sized jackrabbit in the head with one and it completely flattened the skull without total penetration. I guess the nail was pushed through the bullet causing complete fragmentation. Ahh the joys of youth.

@@MJScoutArchMar My completely uninformed guess is would have the effect of the fatal JFK headshot. supposedly that was caused by someone either putting a wad of mercury in a deeply hollowed out hollow point and coating it with wax or by dripping a ball of molten lead inside the hollow point. either way, the effect is of changing it from a pure projectile to a tiny armed missile. Is this possible / viable? Personally I do not know. I’m out of my depth when it comes to firearms, ammunition, and ballistics. Just armchair theorizing.

What makes a hollow point bullet expand is that the cavity fills with whatever you shoot it into. If you want to make it expand faster just fill the cavity in advance with something like play dough. It will expand quicker and do more damage before exiting the intended target if it exists at all.

We can have .22LR rifles in the UK. Well, as long as you have a firearms license, access to ground to which you have the owner's permission to shoot over, and after the police have cleared the land as suitable for the calibre you have chosen, or are a member of a home office approved rifle range / club. Oh but they must be single-shot or semi-auto rifles only, no pistols, those are far too dangerous apparently...

My preferred sport is clay shooting, except I do it with a Mossberg 590, which when you consider that pretty much every else at my club turns up with a traditional over/under and usually dress in tweeds or skeet vests with their names embroidered on, I tend to stick out like a sore thumb :D.

Here in Brazil, if you, a civillian want even a 22 revolver for home defense, you need to go thru the army psychologists, get a certificate (almost no one gets, if you lost someone in the past 2 years or so they classify you as unstable, something like that, they do the best to prevent you for having a gun), then you need to do a test about guns (usually they pick weird stuff that you only know if you looked exactly for it, like how to dismount a Beretta M975, the official brazillian army handgun), and then you need to do an accuracy test, which most fail (because you need almost perfect results), and then, if you managed to do all this, you have to provide them a reason you need a gun(home defense is not a valid reason), generally court judges and former police officers are the ones who can provide a valid reason.

I once shot a 55gal plastic drum without its lid full of water with a .454 using buffalo bore ammo. The hydro-whatever caused 1/4 of the water to shoot out the top. It was a surprised. Maybe try something like that with the 460/custom slug?
@Dread_Not6 жыл бұрын
Chris Collins I imagine it definitely would be a surprised

I just didn't think it would have blew as much water out as it did, was like a bomb
@jeremywilliams43816 жыл бұрын
Its called Cavitation. The bullet entering at such a high velocity that the water tries to move out of the way at the same speed.
@jason127x996 жыл бұрын
Chris do the same thing with a 300 win mag or 338 but shoot the bottom of the drum. It will launch a good 8 to 15 feet into the air. We use to do the with 30-30.

Cool video. You guys are funny! When we were kids, it was (common knowledge) that you should cut the head of a .22 bullet in an X-pattern on the tip, with a knife. This would ensure expansion and more “stopping power”. I don’t remember any difference though in shooting a dove. They’re dead either way. We didn’t have ballistic gel or a way to experiment with this concept, but a piece of plywood confirmed there’s a slight difference in expansion of the slug. An ‘Un-cut” slug would go right through the plywood, without much of an exit hole. The cut slugs definitely blew the back out more. Just ancient technology from the 60’s, or maybe earlier. (I learned this in the 60’s). It’s so fun to watch you guys experimenting with this concept now. It does make a difference, as every piece of plywood I shot can attest.

When KZbin hates your videos, make lemonade (in slow motion) We need more KZbinrs making their own hollow points. Outstanding as always guys!
@josephdillard99076 жыл бұрын
What we need is a whole lot more support for gun channels on KZbin. KZbin is trying like hell to suppress every channel that shows guns in an honest light and that show people the actual truth about guns so we need to give them all the support we can. One particularly important channel is called "Guns and Gadgets", that makes a point of helping people keep up with second amendment news (since politicians like to try and sneak infringements through without letting the public even know about it) and KZbin is constantly trying to shut that channel down, he can barely even do a live show anymore, but he needs support, all these guys need our support.

It does vs a regular 22 round. I did that and shoot a orange and it blew up. Shot another orange and it only made a small hole through the orange. So it does make a big difference.

@knokname64664 жыл бұрын
And this was supposed to make the bullet do what, exactly? Aside from creating a lighter bullet with a glue filled cavity, all you've done is wasted time, ammo and BBs. And drilling a .177 diameter hole in a .22 diameter bullet with a drill press would be laughable to watch. Sounds like another case of liberal gun magic intended to frighten the ignorant.

Back in my day - before people surrounded garbage with barbwire - we shot rats at the dump. We would put a gob of mercury in the cavity and top it off with a BB or ballbearing or similar size lead shot (cavity size varies by manufacturer). Makes one HELL of a mess of the vermin. 😁 Do not use if you're hunting for meat, but for pest control, nothing better. I would love to see some shots into clear gel. Love the channel. No shortage of entertainment. Keep it up!

Take a couple boxes of Matches crush the heads into a fine powder then take the boxes and cut the striker pads off soak in a small cup of rubbing alcohol until only cardboard is left then take the cup and filter the mixture through a coffee filter until only the powder is left let sit until completely dry. Now take the dried striker powder and scrape it off the filter into a bowl or paper plate you will now mix 75% match head powder with 25% Striker powder creating what is known as the Armstrong Mixture. After the both powders are mixed together you can then add a small amount of water or rubbing alcohol to make the powder more paste like but not to runny. Now that the powder is in a paste you can then Load your Hollow Points with it and let dry to ensure the powder stays you can also drip hot wax over the tips of the Bullet to make a seal.
