There is no rude language. Taoism is amoral. If you want a moralistic philosophy then Taoism is not for you. Taoism does not equate to Christian moralism and it shouldn't be measure through that lens. You need to ask who decides what is a rude language and why you are offended by that conditioning. You need to go deeper.

Thank you. Sunday Morning classes are something that I am grateful for. I had to listen twice. Not because it was too deep or complicated, but because my mind is so easily distracted by what is going on around me. So many friends and loved ones are enduring hardships. I've been binging on your videos since discovering your channel a couple of weeks ago. I hesitate to to offer this one bit of critique because I deeply appreciate the content of these discussions. Having done some time in broadcasting myself, I hope you accept it in the spirit given. In broadcasting, we try to minimize the idiosyncrasies of speech - the "uhs" and the "y'knows," etc. So naturally, I key in on such things. In this case, it's "this and that and so forth and so on." I mean no slight, and I feel a bit silly even bringing it up because I find your content informative, inspirational, and refreshingly genuine. But there it is. That's all I got. Back to today's binge. 😊 Best wishes to you both.

TLDR: Embracing the principles of Taoism, such as surrendering humbly, loving the world as your own self, and not being concerned with others' opinions, allows one to be of service to the world in a universally positive way. 1. 00:00 🌱 Taoism teaches to accept disgrace and misfortune, find balance in life, and not be swayed by praise or criticism in order to reunite with the Tao and care for all things. 1.1 Chapter 13 of the Tao Te Ching discusses accepting disgrace and misfortune as part of the human condition in order to reunite with the Tao and care for all things. 1.2 Favor and disgrace make one fearful, the greatest misfortune is the self, and Taoism teaches to find a balance in life and not be swayed by praise or criticism. 1.3 Accepting that we are unimportant and not special is a key aspect of Taoism, as it helps us realize that we are no greater than any other living being. 1.4 Do not be concerned with loss or gain, whether it be material possessions or praise and criticism, in order to emulate the dao and be unmovable by emotions. 1.5 Act inappropriately to each situation, don't get caught up in emotions, and understand that both praise and criticism can have negative aspects. 1.6 Don't take criticism or praise from strangers seriously because you don't know their understanding or depth of knowledge. 2. 08:55 🧘 Don't take negative feedback to heart, accept criticism and praise without letting it affect your self-worth, and understand the limited perspective of individual perspectives to maintain a balanced psychological state, as emphasized in Taoism and Krishnamurti's philosophy. 2.1 Feedback is taken seriously from respected audience members, but not from those who try to force their beliefs on others, as seen in a recent incident on social media. 2.2 The speaker discusses the hypocrisy of someone preaching about equanimity after displaying extreme hate and toxic abuse. 2.3 Don't take negative feedback to heart, especially from people who aren't reputable sources. 2.4 Accepting criticism and praise willingly, without letting it affect your self-worth, can help you find valuable perspectives and avoid the pitfalls of expectations. 2.5 Understanding the limited perspective of individual criticism and praise is key to not taking it too seriously and maintaining a balanced psychological state, as emphasized in Taoism and Krishnamurti's philosophy. 3. 14:39 🔑 Focus on self-improvement and understanding your limitations, following the path of the sage rather than the warrior, as exemplified by Buddha, Lao Tzu, Shankara, and Gaurapala. 3.1 Individuals are limited by their beliefs and concepts, leading them to seek security within division and group ideology, which is ultimately limiting and divisive. 3.2 People seek security within their own mind, which is separate and independent from others, due to ignorance and limited views. 3.3 Realize and accept your own nature and focus on self-improvement rather than trying to change others. 3.4 Understanding your limitations and working on yourself to create incomparable human values for the future, following the path of the sage rather than the path of a warrior, as exemplified by Buddha, Lao Tzu, Shankara, and Gaurapala. 4. 18:33 🌊 Embrace and own your emotions, integrate differing perspectives, detach from ego, and live spontaneously to dissolve the self and navigate life's ups and downs. 4.1 Accept and own your fear, anger, and limitations to reveal your whole state and eliminate negative emotions. 4.2 Accepting the highs and lows, integrating and dissolving differing opinions and perspectives, and letting go of attachment to praise and avoidance of criticism leads to a dissolution of the self and freedom from constant self-protection. 4.3 Accept misfortune as a human condition, detach from ego and identity, and live from a non-dwelling, empty, and spontaneous state of mind to avoid accumulating negative experiences. 4.4 Maintain pure consciousness and existence, detach from self-importance, and navigate life's ups and downs like a skilled surfer. 5. 23:23 🔑 Don't seek approval from social media, detach from others' opinions, and focus on self-enrichment rather than external stimulation. 5.1 Life is unpredictable and we attach ourselves to likes and dislikes, building our psychology around it, especially with the influence of social media. 5.2 Listen to criticism from others, but don't seek approval from social media. 5.3 You are just using your thumb to consume information, so it's impersonal and you can just walk away after taking in some content. 5.4 Don't become too attached to the judgments of others, don't care too much what other people think of you, and treat each other with love and respect both online and offline. 5.5 Not taking others' opinions too seriously helps to work on the ego and not reacting to things, even when people get mad for not having an opinion. 5.6 Focus on looking within and harnessing your energy for self-enrichment rather than constantly seeking external stimulation or news updates, as ultimately, whether you know about it or not, nothing changes in your life. 6. 30:04 🌱 Embrace letting go of ego, surrender humbly, serve the world, and recognize the source of our being to avoid caring about social approval according to Taoism. 6.1 Don't worry about what others think, let go of the ego, and embrace not having an identity to avoid caring about social approval. 6.2 Surrender yourself humbly, realize you're part of something greater, down regulate the ego, and serve the world in your own way. 6.3 Our consciousness is a localized expression of one consciousness, but the problem arises when we identify with our physical and mental attributes instead of recognizing the source of our being. 6.4 Loving and clinging to material possessions without understanding their purpose is meaningless according to Taoism. 7. 34:25 🌌 By disintegrating our sense of self and embracing the oneness of consciousness, we can love the world unconditionally and not be possessed by the opinions of others. 7.1 By disintegrating our sense of self, we can experience an expansion of consciousness and a sense of oneness with the one consciousness. 7.2 Deep meditation can lead to a physical feeling of relaxation and expansion in the body. 7.3 When you are in a state of consciousness that is non-experiential and unified with the world, you can truly care for all things. 7.4 You are the big bang, still a process of it, like a little wave in the ocean. 7.5 Humans are just a small part of the ongoing process of the universe, and our self-importance is unfounded as the universe will continue to evolve and change long after we are gone. 7.6 Removing our self-importance and limited perspective allows us to love the world unconditionally and not be possessed by the opinions of others. 8. 42:39 🌱 Being spiritually true to yourself in Taoism means surrendering humbly, loving the world as your own self, and not being concerned with others' opinions, allowing you to be of service to the world in a universally positive way. 8.1 Spirituality in Taoism means being true to yourself and having spiritual integrity and strength, not being moved by criticism or praise. 8.2 Being genuinely spiritual means being completely ordinary and letting the Tao make use of you, allowing you to be of service to the world in a universally positive way, unlike the inherently self-interested identity that can have both positive and negative effects. 8.3 Surrender yourself humbly, love the world as your own self, and don't be concerned about how other people think of you, but instead focus on if there is anything you are ignoring for other people, which is a great leadership quality according to Confucius. 8.4 Good leaders make decisions without worrying about other people's opinions and have the courage to act in the best interest of everyone. 8.5 Be authentic and speak your mind without being bothered by criticism or praise, like the original Taoist sages. 8.6 Be radically yourself, genuine and full of love from an innocent and empty heart.

I loved the dinosaur comment and really hit home of how insignificant our humanity is! Loved it….Trump would be furious if he realised how insignificant he is, ha ha. It’s interesting to see how we have got the point of being invested of how ‘important’ we are, yet this arrogance seems to be heading towards our demise. The Dao is Letting it flow as it’s done with the human arrogance already. Ha ha. Lots to think about, I think not giving a crap is the way forward 😉

KZbin flagged this comment and they might ask you for an explanation. I just thought I'd mention that. Also, your comment seems quite odd to be honest. I know you are trying to make an obvious point, but it lacks sensitivity and also implies that you are wishing that for me, which is why KZbin might ask you for a please explain. Your understanding of Tao is incorrect as well. It is only the conditioned mind that would think of harming someone else or saying it is ok for that to happen on a KZbin comment. Taoism comes from the perspective that we are all innately good from birth, but we all then endure socialization and that is how we could commit something out of sync with our human nature, such as violence or saying that is fine for someone else. I don't know who you are, so it is not for me to say why you would write such a silly comment, but I'm not in-sync with the whole new and unnatural social media psychology, where people communicate in a way with no manners or taste. I don't require an apology because I know saving face is a big part of social media psychology. But I would recommend in the future to keep your comments centered on dialogue around the Eastern teachings, as that is what the channel is about.

Hi Jason As usual an excellent and thought provoking podcast Thank you 😊 The comment about dinosaurs made me think did they have an ego? What is the purpose of our ego? As its a real handicap to spiritual advancement If we were already consciousness to begin with Hope it's not too much of a random question!

Some kitten (not all) get scared when they see their own reflection in a mirror, they have not acquired the consciousness of their own image yet. My own cat has never been afraid of his own image.... he knows that he is, Ego means "I" in latin, everything that lives have a "I" consciousness... the difference between animals and humans is that they don't put a mental image over this "I" and thus, are in their natural state we try to recover, this is what Jesus meant when he said we must "becoming like little children" Little children have no constructed concept put over their own "I" (ego) Cheers

The root of your strong frontal lobes and thus your reasoning and abstract thought power is your insecurity as a man, don't get me wrong, every man is insecure, that's why we always overcompensate with something. We gotta find our niche. I can see weaknesses in you both, but those weaknesses are in areas that make you both compatible for each other. It's as if where one is lacking the other has excess and you attract each other like 2 magnets. I see you talk about praise and criticism, I've seen people who dislike praise, they think of people who praise them as trying to "win them over" or wanting something from them, like a leech. And some see people who criticise them as people who point out their weaknesses, as teachers and lessons, motivators for change, as a good thing, a challenge to grow.
