Hi there, at around the 5:20 mark, you showed us the fork crown race adapter that Schwinn installed on the fork. Was it difficult to get that piece off? Did you use a specialty tool or just like a screwdriver and a hammer?

Possibly. The factory headsets and bearings I have discovered are not very good anyways, so it’s a nice upgrade. You could get away with replacing only the lower headset.

I hear a bearing ball inside the frame of my boundary, upgrading like he showed would be ideal. There's another video on here of someone doing the same upgrades that had broken bearings as well. So it's a common issue.

5:10 so it is a converted straight fork! figures. works for me I was actually planning on putting a straight rigid fork on the bike. did the coversion kit just sit there in some grease or was it pressed on like a "headset race" and had to be pulled off?

You can just remove the adapter from the factory fork and press it onto a new fork.

When you were looking at which size top and bottom bearing, etc, that you needed, did you happen to take measurements? Thinking about getting an Axum and just trying to decide which route i want to go as far as fork, etc.

Yeah this bike has been a fun hobby for me as well. I’m only 5’8 and so switched the stem and added some riser handle bars, and it fits me pretty well now.

I'm a quarter inch below 6 and I have this frame. The reach isn't bad, it could do with risers so you're not crouched over the front tire.

I got this bike and it came with bent up cheap headset bearings. I was wondering if there is a better replacement for the OEM bearings? It has two sizes and im not sure what they are for the OEM. If you happen to know that would help me out a lot. New to mountain biking.

I’m not sure on a new bearing that would fit the stock headset and fork. I had the same problem as well. I say wait unti you upgrade the fork and that will require a new headset and bearing set which are much better than factory

@@Myksgarage I was able to get the bearings replaced. I had a spare big one that the Schwinn support sent me a while back that i held onto. I took the destroyed bent up smaller one to a bike shop and got the closest match. It barely fit and its snug. I used a rubber mallet to tap the handlebar down onto the spacers and sort of compress it together. I put a good chunk of automotive bearing greasr on both ends and the steering is a bit tight but smooth. I may have accidentally improved it. 🤣 its back together and better than before. Considering the cost of a new fork and other uogrades, i can sell this and get a new $800 real mountain bike from a local shop. I saw what they had and they have good service and warranty so i think i will be selling this one now that its fixed and working good.

Well there out of fork you purchased, lol. I'm new to this upgrading. So I don't know exactly what I need to replace this shitty factory fork on my brand new Axum? I haven't put it together yet out of box until I get upgrade parts. I work smarter not harder, lol. Great video, got new sub! I'll figure it out.

Great video! You sold me on upgrading my Axum fork to a Rockshoxx Recon RL tapered. My question is are you certain of the upper headset size of ZS44/28? I have watched 3 Schwinn fork upgrades and all 3 had different sizes.🤷‍♂️

That was the size I bought based on my research, it worked just fine. Just buy it on Amazon so you can return it if it doesn’t work for you

What's the offset on that fork? It looks like a 51mm. If that frame has the same slack head tube as the 2021 Axum DP it requires a 42 mm offset fork. If this is a 51mm just keep in mind it changed your geometry and steering completely.
