(HUG) Tara you and Rense work so well together, I just love seeing your day to day operations with the boys. I never realized how much you have to do to have such a bond with the boys. I was trying to teach my miniature Friesian (black Labrador) how to do the Spanish walk, I was amazed and impressed how you did it with Apollo, WOW I can't imaging doing it with a horse the size of Apollo! Watching you wash both reminded me of my bros horse Scout. He loved being washed, loved drinking from the hose and we could see him relax when the pressure hose hit his back or if my bro came out with a tub of hot water he would whinny over and over as the waited for his wash. Hi, Tara. it has been a treat to watch Rens and Steve taking Apollo out with you and Farouk. It must be a positive situation for him to become familiar with additional riders. He is, of course, a very easy, accommodating horse and would be gentle with most people. Farouk definitely appears to want extra attention, which I guess is part of the Arabian temperament. It's cool that you will now be able to switch out sides for rest the grass in the big field, so they can chow down on the other as the right side will now have time to grow. Clever planning! Your home paddock looks very lovely on the sunny filming day. Have you had friends over for coffee to watch your beauties enjoy their new grazing ground? I subscribe to Yorkshire Life online and have enjoyed learning more about your lovely county. Will it be long before the leaves begin to turn color?

We kept our halters and a coffee can of sweet feed in the house. Walk out to the pasture with a hand full and voila, horses trotting and competing to be the first. My mum used to tell the horses...a treat for your freedom, eh? She also refered to it as the spoon full of sugar way to assure cooperation. (:

I had a horse that did not like apples or carrots. We just used calfmana or sweet feed. This was 45 years ago... but my mom's rules were never go out empty handed. In the event of an emergency, we could always catch the horses quickly, with very little drama. Oh, and watermelon was a great favorite of both horses but not so much for us... a sticky mess all round. (: Happy memories.

You always have the nifty gadgets!! Our fence tester is large. Where did you get that one???? Gracie was my horse that hated coming in out of the pasture especially if it meant getting in the trailer and going somewhere. So what I started doing was going out there with a peppermint, put her halter on, pet her, then take her halter off and leave. That was so that she learned that not always did she have to come in and work or leave the pasture where there is green grass. It worked, but I still do that every now and then. I wonder if Farouk's behavior will change when Winter comes. My guess is it will.. because of the food back at the stable.

Hi Tara, Farouk's got all his lemon drops up top hasn't he, "What's it worth for me to come to the truck" oh my what a clever boy, Apollo got a little impatient stomping his foot but maybe he was telling Farouk to horse up and get in the truck because he knows they're going to get treats, all in all they're very good boys so little tantrums like that are okay, lovely to see Rens again, Question! Because Apollo is from Holland does he understand Rens if he speaks his native language to him? probably a stupid question, I'm sorry, Ike's always a good boy, I haven't seen him be naughty yet and he's back on the job of supervising, bless that little man, have a lovely day all, big hugs and kisses until the next time, take care xxxxx

Farouk is very careful with his head when near you...very gentle and aware of your space. Apollo isn't very specially aware, so you have to be a bit careful he doesn't knock you by accident.

I would feed my mare a bit of Omalene ( yummy with mollasses) she'd come up to eat...halter grasped...caught. ( 8 acre field).

We would take two ears of corn and rub them together even when we couldn't see the horses. They'd come trotting right to us. Forty acres with woods and pasture. Plenty places for them to hide. We'd have enough corn for everyone, halter who we wanted, and off to the barn!

@@Tara101 they had been fed it on a regular basis. It's mixed grains with a molasses coating...definitely yummy. I would shake the can and pour it into a feeding bowl...very good stuff. I fed a supplement to my my mare When she was pregnant and Nurseing, but she always preferred it mixed with the Omalene.

Thank you. Farouk was definitely having a temper tantrum. I don't have a horse, though I have friends that have them. But my Siamese cats do the same when they see the cat carriers come out because they know it's a ride to the vet. Emmy, my dog loves going to the Vet because she gets treats. Enjoy the warm weather, yesterday morning here in Vermont, USA, it was 44 degrees in the morning (Aug 22).But warmed up to the 70's F.
