Farouk was frightened of the white container behind his head and I was complacent, because he had being doing really well in his training. We got tangled up in tree branches and the next thing I knew I was on the floor.

Notwithstanding that you could have hurt yourself more, it is a rite of passage that all equestrians know well. I admire you for showing the warts. It’s something we’ve all done. Three times for me on Maus, twice with far less vertical movement than Farouk, and once with about the same. Loved the whole video, in spite of your fall, because you came out of it ready to get back on. Youngsters don’t appreciate that the ground gets harder as you get older!

This was actually the very first video I watched of yours, just stumbled on it. I remember seeing this big Arabian horse, I mean, he was so tall and beautiful. And then he spooked, I didn’t even know you then like I do now and I know I didn’t comment. Now looking back I was so sorry and happy, at the same time you didn’t get hurt. I got bucked off my new horse one time, the second time I rode her, got a broken bone in my back and was too scared to ride again. Still love horses and get to enjoy your lovely horses. OH Tara, you hit hard. I heard that final bone shattering thud we all make when we land on the ground, and it was all too familiar to me. If we ride ... we will fall one time or another. The only broken bone I ever had was when I was thrown from a horse. I am so grateful you landed on the ground instead of asphalt, like I did the last time I went off my horse. I was riding a Quarter Horse, Thoroughbred mix, and a small dog came out of a house to nip at my horse's hind legs. I didn't ride for a while after that. You were tangled in that tree as well as the other things Forouk was dealing with .... no matter how gentle and well trained, they all will spook now and then. Blessings to you Dear Lady ..!

It says a lot when your horse will stay with you after a fall from something that scared him like that, most would run far from the danger. He really trust's your leadership. I don't think you were complacent, you just didn't expect that reaction. We all wish we had done it different after our bum hits the ground.😂 I did something similar on my young throughbred about 10 years ago. I had a stick with leaves on it to swat some flys away, didn't desensitize because I honestly didn't expect a reaction, next thing I know I'm on the ground with a compression fracture to my spine. It was a world of pain, the first time I couldn't just get back on, but I did eventually. I'm glad you were ok and you didn't let it knock your confidence, it just happens sometimes.

Ouch Tara! That was a heavy fall. You would have stayed on if it hadn't of been for the tree in the way. Farouk was a good boy he was very quiet standing quietly nearby. The people there did the right thing blocking his way on to the road and not chasing him. Desensitization training at home is in order with bottles of water above his back so he does not take fright like that again. If you ever part company again he will know to stand quietly nearby now. Soak in a hot bath with the Epsom salts to help with the bruising. I can no longer ride due to a crippling fall I had in my youth. I hit a fence post at a fall gallop, broke my femur in half, chipped my ankle, cracked my pelvis. I rode for a few years afterwards, I had a career working with horses but had to give it all up my injuries were to bad to continue. It broke my heart realizing I couldn't continue so now I ride from my arm chair on the backs of other peoples horses like your beautiful Farouk and magnificent Apollo! I hope you recover soon. Perhaps wearing a back protector would help with the knocks should you ever come off again.

@@Tara101 I think we are very close in age if not the same...so I completely understand. In my experience the third day is always the worst...ouch!! Your pool should help tremendously with the soreness if it's not too much trouble getting in and out of, my hot tub has been a life saver over the years...it's paid for itself and then some 😄

@@Amanda-ly9rc yes I have used it to ease the muscles back to work after five days of inactivity due to soreness😊

Oh I’ve been off line for a week and missed all the exciting stuff. I think if it’s your first fall off him you’re very lucky and what a good boy not to run home or to trailer without you!

Wow, Tara, that was scary!! 😰I hope you are ok! That took me back to one time I was riding my horse and a neighboring farmer put off some kind of an air gun and scared my horse. He went one way and I went the other. I hit the ground not very gracefully.. I think the earth shook! 🌎 That was some years ago, I must say at this point I don’t think I would have been getting up as quickly as you did! I hope you feel better soon! 🤕🐴

Oh Tara I feel for you and as the other lady said that’s hard to watch but I got to say Farouk was super he so could of run off but he stayed with you and that’s all down to ur love and training and it was very scary to watch it could have been a lot worse if he was a non trained Arab with that busy rd and the lady’s there. I hope you are not to badly hurt and start to feel better soon that’s why we call them accidents cos they come out the blue maybe yes a little ur fault but not entirely and not Farouk fault it happens to nearly everyone the way I saw it was when you started to transfer the container to the other side u was trying to hold on to Farouk with one hand and the other the container then the tree did not help. But I got to say that’s the first time I have seen such a dignified dismount bless you much love xxxxx

I’m glad you are ok. I thought they were offering you a drink. Very odd thing to offer for your horse. “Here equestrian, have this water to pour on your horse!” I’d have thought it would have been a better and safer idea for one of the stewards to gently cool the horse with a bucket and sponge?
