I suppose it depends on who you ask. The dictionary says "sang-gwn" but I've heard people pronounce it "san-gween" or "sayn-gween" (that's the one I go with too). P.S. Not dumb at all. The only dumb question is the one that goes unasked.

Speaking of nervous because "This one's faster" I got a P. Irminia today. The rehouse went much better than i expected honestly but I was hella nervous about the speed. It went for a bit of a walk about around the outside of it's enclosure but i managed to guide it inside and get the lid on. Cool to see Mr Tarantula Kat joining in the fun. Great video

I stuck mine in its enclosure, not planning on a rehouse anytime soon, I was sweating after dealing with it 😅😅

This is my bucket list tarantula but I getting told it’s not for beginners. I’d love one, but I don’t really fancy having to keep species of tarantula I don’t really want just so I can become experienced enough for this one 😢
@GothikSamurai13 жыл бұрын
@@victoriareffin2429 That was/is more or less me. I ended up just taking the plunge because I didn't think I'd ever have the funds and time to get the experience I felt would be helpful in making me truly comfortable with the speed/defensiveness with other species first. I ended up deciding just getting a small sling and adjusting to it as it grows was the best option for me. I originally planned to get an avicularia or two and maybe a P. Pulcher first (someone told me they were the Psalmopoeus they would personally to anyone nervous to get in to keeping Psalmopoeus species) but I really only wanted them first for experience with arboreal tarantulas. I also hadn't been keeping for a couple years until recently and had only kept slow moving terrestrials until pretty recently when I got my GBB. So far I don't regret just diving in the deep end and getting the P. Irminia but I'd never tell anyone else to do the same. Only you can decide where the comfort level is and when or if to go outside that a bit. I will say it's a bit nerve wracking here and there but so far the nervousness/dealing with the speed hasn't been as bad as I had convinced myself it would be. My next bucket list Tarantula is a E. Murinus.
@GothikSamurai13 жыл бұрын
@@katrla125 They apparently grow pretty fast so that could be quicker than one may prefer lol, I already rehoused mine once since this comment, not because it grew though. It was originally in a 32oz deli container enclosure but after a day or two in that I was like "nah man, I gotta get something I can see this spiderling through" because I was almost too afraid to open the deli container for fear it might be chilling unseen near the lid. 😅 So as soon as payday rolled around I ordered it an Acrylic juevenile enclosure from Jamie's Tarantulas. So now I can see better and know where it is before opening it, which has helped with my nervousness quite a bit.
@victoriareffin24293 жыл бұрын
@@GothikSamurai1 It would be great if I could just rehouse the sling once into its adult size enclosure on arrival and never have to do anything more than open a tiny gap to feed it 😂 I’m more worried that it makes a run for it and I end up freaking out and then aren’t able to catch it safely without scaring or hurting it. Or even worse I can’t find it once it’s escaped and I’m left with a rogue tarantula wandering round the house 😬😂

I've been bit by both brown recluse and black widows. I'm fortunate, in that I've identified the spiders, and either backed away from them, or captured them with a plastic container and a lid - released them where I didn't think anyone would bother them. Plus, typical bite stories, used benadryl. BUT - NOTHING beats the time I was exchanging batteries in my car, few years ago: Huge, adult black widow went racing up my arm, right after removing the dead battery! She then ran down my body, down my leg, down my shoe then into the grass! Seriously, people, they really don't want to harm anyone, don't block their escape!! Yes, I had to be as still as a statue, afraid of dropping the battery. It really felt like she was panicking, was terrified, and hoped that I wouldn't kill her! Seemed relieved, that I let her use me to escape. I was relieved, she did what I needed her to do.

Jumping spiders are awesome. I used to be afraid of spiders (not really afraid, I knew they couldn’t hurt me, I just thought they were gross) but now I like jumping spiders and tarantulas. I still don’t like the ones with long skinny legs like widows or cellar spiders, they still make my skin crawl, but I have a better respect for all spiders as a result, and yesterday I handled my first spider ever, a huge female tan jumping spider I found on my door and I absolutely love them now and want to keep some. I’ve seen lots of jumping spiders around my property including ant-mimic jumpers, zebra jumpers, a few bold jumpers, a flea jumper, and one brown one that I haven’t been able to identify, but mostly tan jumpers. The trick will be getting my parents to let me keep them. I’d like to do an experiment, and see which species is the best jumper for its size, maybe that would convince them, since I’d be learning. I do have a question though: if you keep them in a big jar for an enclosure, how do you keep them from making their nests in the top corner where they will get destroyed every time the lid is opened?
