I do find it sad the way so many people hear the phrase "I prefer..." and immediately assume that means you hate everything else. Like many others, I cam to Nightwish nearly 20 years ago when I fell in love with Tarja's voice. I couldn't believe it when they fired her and, again like so many others, drifted away, only to rediscover them through Floor. There is no "better", only "I prefer...". So, I prefer Floor's Wacken 2013 version of Ghost Love Score, but I prefer Tarja singing Ever Dream (possibly because I listened to it so much that Tarja's accent became an integral part of the song for me). And no-one, and I mean no-one, is allowed to sing Swanheart except Tarja. So, please do more Tarja and especially do Swanheart. Please?

I got ages ago my first metal CD from Nightwish - called ocean born and i was immediately in love with the singer and the band. I know my mum hate them because she did not like the opera part with the metal stuff. I was then a big Nightwish fan until Tarja broke with the band and then with Anette the band was not was i liked before. In the end I put Nightwish away. Then 2 years ago a friend who is a big fan of another metal band with a classical trained singer started to do the live concerts on youtube and we listend to it next to our hobby time. Then it happened that he switched on the Wacken 2013 Nightwish concert and this was my first listen to floor. Today after i saw a lot of reaction videos where a lot of people try to compare Tarja , Floor and Annette I am happy that we have the possibility to listen to the songs we love , doesn’t matter if it from Old Nightwish singer or new one. However for me is Floor a present - she brought the live back to Nightwish and fill the space that Tarja left. Maybe I am now 20 years older but I like the versatile of Floor so much that she is my favorite singer but when I listen to the old ocean born CD again - no one can stop Tarja. That’s my 50 cents

As you know, Tarja Turunen was the original Nightwish vocalist for almost a decade, defining a big part of their sound with her classically infused vocal techniques which combined perfectly with Nightwish's inicial power metal and later symphonic metal sound, and also with Marco's vocals, as you noticed it was a perfect match in every way! The great thing is that Tarja has been having an amazing solo career in the last 15 years... Her voice is really high (her last note on this one is an Eb6), but also a full and really powerfull sound (and in her career she always keeps on experimenting new things with her vocals recently, including a haunting dark and lower register she can belt out), plus having this theatrical presence on stage... I'm really glad you liked to "rediscover" this one! Yes, that's how I look it, too. Both are super-talented. In my opinion some songs sound better when sung by one of them, or the other. But that's because their voices and styles are different. But it's art; just enjoy it however you enjoy it.

The very fist Symphonic Metal song I ever heard was back in 2000 on our very first computer. It was playing in the background as I searched for "The Eagles Farewell Tour". Had to stop searching and find out who the band was. It was Nightwish, 10th Man Down. I was hooked! Looked up the band, found other bands like them and never looked back! I have to thank the internet. Without it, never would have found this amazing type of music! The thing I love most about Tarja is her accent. For me (an American) it adds a touch to the songs that makes them more appealing to my ear.

I got into Nightwish when Century child came out. Hence Tarja was the singer. I loved her voice. I also discovered After Forever a short while after. I liked them too but not as much as Nightwish. They had a great singer though so when Floor became a part of Nightwish I was beyond pleased. I love them both. No competition in my eyes. I am curious to hear your input on some of Tarja's most recent work, seeing as this performance is now over 15 years old hehe - but still very iconic nonetheless. I personally recommend "Love to Hate" from Metropolis London 2018. For me, one of her most emotional songs which translates very dramatically in her facial expressions and body language. I also think it shows perfectly how she developed her contemporary singing style - which many who may not know her outside from Nightwish would be surprised to hear. I'm back. Very nice words about NW singers from you. I didn't knew Marko at all when i saw this video at the first time (now there are his book "Ruostumaton" in my bookshelf. Very easy reading). He is the "surprise" factor of this video for all of us. Tarja's stage presence there is towering too. The sad things happened right after this show. Oh Nightwish inspired you to musical career, that's really sweet. How did I became a Nightwish fan? It was a looong path. I'm a Finn so I heard Nightwish for years in radio, saw in TV, but I was into acoustic music: jazz, blues, Finnish folk, the closest to metal I think was ZZ Top for me. But my relatives, my older siblings kids all listened metal. So, finally I tried to get into it too. Started with folk metal, thought that could be a bridge. Nightwish became the first metal band I really digged big time. Bought a few alboms same time: Oceanborn, Wishmaster, Dark Passion Play. Loved them all, the music was more complex than what I previously listened, loved it, but I've been always more vocalist oriented than instrmentals. Then I watched From Wishes to Eternity concert from KZbin, and fell in love with Tarja. If I could go back in time to some concert, that would be it. I'm a big fan of Anette's too, she is a very skilled singer, I love how lively her voice is, how she makes songs interesting with her vocal changes. A lot of metal bands have come after that, but Nightwish was my first number one. And I've stayed with Tarja and Anette also after Nightwish.

Tarja was a Goddess to us OG Nightwish fans! I fell in love with Nightwish when Oceanborn came out, I was blown away by the mix of symphonic metal and opera singer, it was revolutionary. When I played it loudly in my car or in my house people outside would ask me what the hell is that music, in positive awestruck way. 2 times I drove 1000km in one direction to go to their concert. First time she escaped through the secret exit of the concert venue but I met everyone else and talked with them for some 15minutes in front of the tour bus. It was -17°C and they never said we have to go, they even thanked me for going on a such a long journey in polar cold weather to see them, I couldn't believe how kind they were, but I was so sad I didn't have a chance to meet Tarja. Few years later, same place, different tour, I managed to catch Tarja too and take a pic with her :) When Nightwish parted ways with her I was devastated like every Nightwish fan, I couldn't believe it. Although it was a messy divorce I'm still hoping to see at least one concert reunion in the future :) But yeah, all singers were great in their own way, although I was disappointed when they took Anette cause she could not sing Tarja stuff but two albums that she is on are great and she did excellent job there. When Floor joined Nightwish things were again right in the world cause she can sing anything and is amazing charismatic person:)

The singer debate is lame. Tarja is the singer that Nightwish was built on; without her, who knows if the band would have gone anywhere. Anette was picked by the band out of a ton of demo tapes and, if she had been in any other symphonic or power metal band, would have been loved like Charlotte from Delain is loved. She did her best on two great albums, and I'm glad I got to see the band when she was fronting it. Floor is a great performer, fits the band perfectly, and Nightwish has a great future ahead of them with her in the lineup. As a fan of the group, I'm grateful for Tarja, Anette, Sami, and especially Jukka, love all of the albums and songs to a greater or lesser extent, and can't wait to see them once this Covid thing is over. In the meantime, I can think of a thousand better things to do with my time than engage in a useless internet argument like which singer is best.

I got teary eyed, i re visit this song every now and then. I started listening to them back in 2001/02 and i do certainly absolutely adore Tarja’s voice in the albums with Nightwish. She was one of the very few ladies in metal alongside with Vibeke Stene and Liv Kristine or Anneke, that really played a role model for me. I loved Annette and i do love Floor (ever since the days of AF) and in Nightwish she is fantastic. Tuomas is my absolute delight. He has always been the main soul in that band to me at least. So when all these ladies sing his creations i just cant help but smile and enjoy every single one of them. I will always remember Sleeping Sun kicking my arse and saving me from a dark place. And Storytime reminds me of a beautiful winter in Ireland when i visited my now husband, and Floor just being so powerful and delicate gathering the best of both previous singers. Can’t decide haha.

I ADORE this version of the song in so many ways. I was already a fan of the Phantom (the Lloyd Webber musical and the story in general) and starting to get into metal when I first heard this. I had already heard Nightwish and fell in love with them after the first note of Elvenpath, but hearing this just solidified it even more for me. I found Nightwish from its Phantom of the Opera version and felt in love with Tarja's voice. Still following her in her solo career. She has managed to differ her music from what is Nightwish's, although some people see it is not as good as her past performances. Personally I just think it is different not better or worse and it is not always easy for an artist to change the character that has been known to public for so long. This wasn't even Tarja at her best. She was ill that evening which is why she was a little 'gaspy' at times. I kind of expected what Tarja did with this song, so I was more impressed by Marko's performance. I was really impressed by their chemistry on stage, since Marko was really lobbying for her to be fired at this point in time, which she soon was.

Both Tarja and Floor are fantastic singers, I also discovered Nightwish during the Tarja era. Sleeping Sun was the one that caught my ear first but that was more of a fluke I think.... "Phantom of the Opera is how I discovered Nightwish" SAME, but also not really. I'd heard Wanderlust first, in an anime music video unaccredited. I'd asked the creator of the vid who it was but they never answered me. It was years later that I overheard someone playing the Phantom cover for some theater kids and I immediately recognized her voice. Fortunately, they told me the band name!

I am relatively new to Nightwish and the current lineup hooked me; however, I have since gone back and started listening to some of their earlier stuff. I can't think of a band that has made such good music with three different lead singers. Annette doesn't get enough respect. If you are going to review old Nightwish, please consider: Slow, Love, Slow (one of my NW favorites) or Scaretale (musical theater). The studio versions, I believe, show her at her best. For Tarya - Walking In the Air (pre Marco), Siren, Wishmaster (live) and Nemo (live or studio). Since discovering NW, I have seen probably all of your reactions to this band and Floor. Great work. I started listening to Nightwish when I was in middle school with Oceanborn in 1998, so Tarja's time in Nightwish is something special to me, but I do freely admit that Nightwish can do things with Floor that they couldn't have done with Tarja, and Floor's stage presence is just out of this world.

It seems in today's world so many people think everything is black or white. That's very tragic and leads to conflict where it doesn't need to be. All three NIghtwish singers are very different and all excellent in their own way. Floor is my all-time favourite singer, but for some reason or another I've always felt like Tarja was the best fit for NW. But it's a kind of pointless debate. Floor is the singer now and she's killing it. But I feel like I'm the odd one out when it comes to liking synphonic metal with After Forever and Epica being my absolute favourite bands of the genre. I suspect it has to do with the musical style of Mark Jansen.

In my opinion all three singers have their place. On the albums I mostly prefer Annette. Floor is phenominal in live recordings (I have never been to a live show personally) and Tarja is very unique with her accented pronunciation, and she has many songs that I have not found by any of the other singers. (Most notably in my opinion Over the Hills and Far Away, and The Carpenter) I love listening to all three in their own way.

The first NW song I listened to was "High Hopes" from the same concert. I was looking for Pink Floyd covers on KZbin and I came across their version. I was like "wtf? Who are these guys?" They were amazing. For a long time I tjought Marco was the lead singer of the band. Then the second song I listened to was TPOTO. Rest is history.

I remember when I was a kid, listening to this. I loooooved Marco in this song - but I had a harder time with Tarja. Except for her brighter tones in the end. I have tried to figure out why I felt that way. But yeah diction is a good explanation. When I listen to her I hear a thick finnish accent - even when she's singing. And that's not wrong or bad necessarily. But it always felt like she was not in control like that, like her vowels and pronunciation felt a bit stiff I guess. I'm guessing that she would sound very different in finish, especially to someone that speaks and understands finnish XD. Now, in later years... I don't care as much about that. I guess i always preferred brighter voices in opera, and her Mezzo is rather dark. But then again I like Callas and she can be dark too... but Callas doesn't use the same heavy vibrato all the time, and she is much more agile... she is Callas XD... I mean she is a prodigy and didn't do the metal thing hehe so It's not super fair to compare in that way.... I like Tarja but I have to be in a mood to listen to live stuff with her. Its just the accent+darkness+vibrato and drama all together is just a lot, like a whole lot. But sometimes I'm in the mood for that. And studio recordings with her tend to be a bit cleaner and more stable to my ear. hmm I don't like to think of her as lesser or better than anyone else. She is just a very special thing, for better or worse. I really like how she sounds in most of this song though. I just wish she would have held back a tad bit with the heavy vibrato but you know, taste is personal I guess. And this version is very camp... and I love camp.

Awesome video Elvann! I would most gladly recommend you to do more reactions of old Nightwish songs, or cover some of them, for example "Sacrament Of Wilderness" or "Walking In The Air". I'm 19 years old, and listening to "Oceanborn" and "Angels Fall First" albums is triggering nostalgic emotions in me?!?!

I saw Nightwish with Tarja once and she brought me to tears. When I saw them again about a year later, something was wrong with her and I couldn't figure out what the problem was. It was nothing like the previous time. Then I learned that it was a new singer. Her leaving, I think, was the worst thing that ever happened to them. Now I haven't yet heard them with Floor, but I'll check it out as I predict she may have restored them. The soprano sound was their signature and I don't think Tarja's replacement captured it. However I think Floor might.

I adore every singer. Yes, I have a favourite but that doesn't matter. My introduction was Anette's era, which I loved but I didn't fully get into the band. I wish I did. This band is absolutely incredible. My first Tarja era song was either Nemo or Over the Hills and I freaking adored it. But still I didn't fully explore. It wasn't until 2017 that I found more Nightwish songs and then 2018 until I COMPLETELY dived in. I love every era. Each album is freaking great. You should totally react to more Tarja songs! I'd love to see a reaction on Planet Hell (End of an Era).

Tarja's voice is very powerful and her colour is lovely. I fell in love with this band mostly thanks to her. I love Floor forever, and the band is at a very great place with her, but I am not going to deny the legacy of Tarja tbh. To me, at the time, it was the main band that managed to this genre the best way. Some songs like Sleeping Sun and this and some older songs, I prefer Tarja's. Except Ever Dream. I came around to Floor's more power ballad version ahaha.

Discovering Nightwish because of a reaction video to "Ghost Love Score" from Wacken changed my life. It was before the band had truly exploded on KZbin. That experience of "how has this music been so far from me all this time?!" I devoured the few new Nightwish reaction vids that popped up while drinking deeply from the older ones. Each era brought me dark chests of wonder which gave my soul gifts like this song. The beauty & the power married in one sound. Perfection.

Another great reaction by the always magnificent Elvann 🤗 You give credit to the singers where it's due. Both Floor and Tarja have their own style and strengths in singing this wonderful song. Which version is "better" more depends on one's own taste, and one can debate on that, but still both Floor and Tarja are great singers in their own way.

I think you pointed out something important in that Tarjas tone was really consistant most of the time - which doesn't mean she's not interpreting/feeling/accentuating the songs! Compared to Floor using a much broader variation of styles and techniques in some instances within a single line (!), I think that can seem as more emotional connected - especially for most listeners without much musical background knowledge. Both should be much respected
