“Rocking Heels: Live at Metal Church” is the document of a very special concert in the idyllic setting of Wacken Church. Released on August 11th, 2023 on earMUSIC, it is the first release of the live series “Rocking Heels”. It is available as a Ltd. 2LP Vinyl Edition, CD mini LP replica and on Digital.
In front of just 300 handpicked fans, this onetime-only event opened the Wacken Open Air Festival in 2016. Tarja presents unique arrangements of rock and heavy metal classics by her favourite artists including “Numb” by Linkin Park, In Flames “Alias”, Metallica’s “The Unforgiven”, songs by Joe Satriani and Slipknot as well as a Nightwish song and Tarja originals.
“The Unforgiven” is one of the most iconic songs in Metallica's unmatched canon of classics. Tarja, an icon in her own, delivers an undeniably classic performance of that song and perfectly conveys the theme of the struggle of the individual against the aspirations of those who want to subdue him.

Oh lord, so beautiful. I said it many times, but will say it again, the musicians that Tarja collaborates with are amongst the best out there. That instrumental solo was something else. I wonder what Max felt playing this once again... It was how I came across him. Seems like a lifetime ago... I am so happy that Tarja, many moons ago, invited him to play and compose with her. The sense of musicality, his mastery of the cello is so very underrated. What a match made in heaven Tarja sings with just the perfect amount of power, very nuanced, very controlled. Never once oversinging or outshining anyone. Her chest voice here and there perfectly intertwined with the lyrics. Bravo to all 4 musicians.

I am such a huge fan of this project. Tarja can make certain songs sound Celestial and Divine when she puts her full mind and self into them. But for real, the passion her voice delivers is out of this world. The drama it has is what I miss in her rock albums. I need the long high notes conveying strong emotions like in The Archive of Lost Dreams, Into The Sun, Too Many, The Reign, Boy and the Ghost and many more where you can cry by feeling her so close to you singing such deep lyrics as if it was meant for you. A caress to the soul. You can see with her cover of Numb, is significantly emotional, it gives you goosebumps every single time you listen to it. I want more of that! I also miss epic theatrical instrumentals like in Little Lies, In For a Kill, Dark Star, Neverlight. I really hope she plays a new concert like this with new covers and for a future release. In a nutshell, I love this Powerful Emotional Tarja side.

I agree, her cover of Numb is my favorite so far, I've heard it about 20 times and it seems to me that the lyrics are kind of about her, even though she's just covering it.

@@PetraPola Right? Sometimes she chooses songs that seem to have been written for her even though they weren't. It is about her ability to express strong emotions with her voice and heartfelt interpretations. Numb is a great example of that, I also listen to it a lot and the combination of emotional lyrics + her emotional interpretation = Tarja's magic. Rivers of Lust on the other hand, talks about such a delicate topic and just see how she conveys the whole journey as if she had lived it herself. That is her magic. U feel like she has been through it even though she hasn't (or that we know) but it would be interesting to know where that song came from.

But you're right, how emotionally she manages to experience each song is the strength of her charm. I think that she herself has to connect to that song and take something from it, it concerns her herself, so that she can experience it like this.

She is a such an mazing singer no other singer can do a cover and make it thier own like she can, just absolutely an amazing singer/composer. She is my favorite musician of all time, always has been alwaays will be her leaving Nightwish has changed that band forever. Her ers is thebest era Endless Forms Most Beautiful is my favorite album but is the only album that competes with Once. It's a toss up in between Once and Endless Forms Most beautiful, but all of Tarjas Solo stuff is better than any Nightwish Album I listen to her so much in a week.
