Escape from Tarkov developers Battlestate Games are receiving one of the worst community pushbacks I've seen since the Battlefront 2 microtransaction drama.
Why? Well they are selling a new edition of the game for $250. If that already sounds like a scam to you, know it gets a lot worse.

@@chazz0418 The other editions were functionally just like preorders for special editions of games in the past. I mean games like Halo Reach, Borderlands 2, console games. Buy the special edition, get a few in game perks, a season pass. Comparing it to mobile games isn't accurate. And that was the core point. There was actual content to get later with it. It wasn't like a mobile game, where you get in game materials, maybe a few special guns, and a battle pass. You had post launch dlc tacked on with it. That's why so many people bought it.

I remember when you'd go to circuit city, fry's or other big box stores and buy brand new pc titles for $50. there was no ultra supreme deluxe edition. Sadly it's back when game companies actually loved making games not just bleeding their customer base dry through microtransactions, low value expansion packs, and double initial cost deluxe editions.

Game companies were still greedy back then. It was just much harder to exploit an audience; you saw it with low effort ports, rushed sequels, and unfinished games. They have more ways of doing it now. And, conversely, you can still very easily find game devs that love making games and love the games that they're making. BG3, especially with how Larian has updated it post launch; Helldivers 2, Lethal Company, Balatro, Holocure, Jedi Survivor. A lot of devs do genuinely work on games they love. But big games get compromised from publishers, and small games rarely get the attention they deserve. If you're looking for games made by devs who clearly love making games, I implore you to look more in the indie and single A space. There's some genuinely great games there.

You were too young to see it. There was tons of that -- there were even games that were so buggy they were literally not possible to finish. Regularly companies lied about what their game was. You just remember the good games. There are 10,000 times as many games now, so there will be more bad games. It's also far, far easier to get away with scamming, so you see it more often. But it wasn't for the love of games -- at least not since the late 80s.

At no time, ever, have video games been like what you described. Developers do love and always have loved to make video games. No one stays in that industry with its horrible pay and mandatory overtime if they don't love to make games. But games must make money. It is a business. All game developer, especially a publicly traded one, try their best to make as much money as possible with the least amount of effort. That is standard across all industries in the entire world.

The server limitation is absolute nonsense. Any limitation is due to BSG's deving incompetence. Instead of designing an actual single player mode that can be locally hosted by the player on his client with just regular progress updates to the BSG servers, the PvE mode BSG came up with is just a regular instance of a raid like for the usual multiplayer PvP servers, just with the player limit set to 1, or 2 for co-op. Thats why they cant run it for everyone. Because its designed in an incredibly and unnecessarily wasteful manner. Theres already free, open-source mods for a true offline PvE Tarkov, and BSG couldnt even bother to look up the GitHub files. They could've hired the devs of the mod, or they could've made the mod official, but no, they went for the laziest, easiest way out. Hosting an entire raid for one person when queue times are 5-10+ minutes for most people.

As an EOD owner since 2018 this is wild. I didn't buy it beacaue of the DLC being free, i bought it cause i love the game. This wont kill the game, but it will make the community distrust the devs even more. Id rather have a working anti cheat than any more maps, modes, clothes, stash space etc

I been playing takov since 2016 Dec, and I agree with general game price going up is reasonable, because price went up past decades means, due to inflation and minimum wage went up, the price wont be the same, i get it, just like bottle of water we buying right now is expensive then past 10-20 years. Price meant to be go up on everything , foods, house, clothing , minimum wage, even bottle of water, which this case i agree with game price shouldn't be the same as past. Developing game wont be done by same price as before due to minimum wage and many other price went up, so i do think its reasonable , but ofcourse, the result of the work has to be solid enough to satisfy consumers . HOW EVER, this case its not really about the price, this is about dis respecting towards to supporters, especially EODs who financially supported the most as well, ( i personally bought 5 EODs for gave aways, ) those Eod users have enough money to spend another 100$, they are not poor which would not afforded 150$ eod at the first place. This is about them changing words about what they promised, and start to actually delete/editing their own web page. This is about we sick and tired about nikita being such stubborn and think his bigger head then consumers. This is about how the company can be so freaking greedy use this kind of BM models, its ridiculous, this isn't tarkov i supported and play back in the days.. as when i bought this game i was 24 , now I'm over 30+ , as my age grows, my passion to tarkov is not the same as before especially after seeing this kinda of exit scam attempts.

i've played grey zone today and honestly.. i don't get the same vibe like in tarkov.. the other alternative is the mobile game from tencent. i'm doubtful that this will be good. guess everyone will be back. I hate it. I always disown pay to win games. I've said good bye to many games I love over that stance. BUT The idea that targeting whales with massive prices isn't bad business IF the player base let's it fly. Whales are not price sensitive. You need only appeal to a hand full of people. Targeted marketing is far easier and cheaper than going for mass appeal. I'm 100% against all of this. It’s not pay to win. The things it gives you are being nerfed, PVE mode and so tiny they make almost no difference. You’ve stretched a lot on the reaction.
