I've been sitting on the floor a lot over the last week to take photos for eBay listings and at first it was killing me but I've noticed the last few days that when I'm on the chair, I want to get back on the floor and my hip flexibility has improved a bit

I completely agree with everything you said. As humans used to travel and our positions always depended on our body and how we felt. We naturally fed our muscles and joints whatever they needed. But if you need to be on a computer all day and forget about your body your health will go down. Even if we have to sit down all day we should still listen to our bodies and be as healthy as we can be. Sometimes we need someone else to point that out. That’s why now I sit at a desk or on a couch when I am tired and want to relax while I use my computer and I sit on the floor with a pad most of the time. Have fun with your explorations!!

I noticed that my body is getting picky as I age. I need multiple pillows when sleeping or sitting on a couch. There’s no good reason for this in my case other than this body is just getting weaker by being surrounded in “softness”. No more! I’m going to sit on the floor at home most of the time. I think I’ll sleep on the floor too for a while. This will help with endurance in sitting mediation too. Thank you for your advice!

65 and sitting on floor. I’m arthritic here and there but in spine as well. Floor period. For T.v., eating, guests sit in fold out chairs with cushion options when visiting. Especially after western sitting practices, I.e.”the comfy chair”, caused a ruptured disc in lumbar spine. I now have completely eradicated that problem, without surgery. I also practice the “third world squat” while in leisure mode. Started 2 years ago and I can’t believe the changes in how the mechanics of my body operate now.

I actually also sit/ lay on the floor, often just on my stomach when I am home on the pc. Got my laptop set up on a workout mat that I use. I think this really helps me keep my back and neck healthy. Generally speaking, I never have back pain or neck pain and this makes sense why.

Very good info. I suspect that the act of getting up off the floor (or ground) -- the rising up from a squatting positions, provides a bit of an excellent leg strengthening exercise. Thanks for posting.

Yes ! Thank you for shedding light on this most simple human activity. Even if only for an hour it makes total sense to spend part of your day on the floor. Any contact with this grounding opens the awareness of that felt presence with direct experience. Whether in stretching , meditation or just plain day dreaming. It can only be a good thing.

Thank you! There is something about connect with the ground where we all learned how we relate to the outside world during first year of our life. Connecting with the ground to rediscover our earlier experience is very healthy for our body and mind, I think.

*Sitting on the floor may not be for everyone, especially if you have not done that for many years. However, if you gradually allow your body to adapt to sit on the floor, your body will have more movement options over time. These body adaptations won't happen over night, but they will happen if you create demands consistently. @@TaroIwamoto this might not be a good question, but I’ll ask it. Is it alright to sit in my movement bias when I’m not doing the movements? It’s hard to stay in the best posture all day
@TaroIwamoto3 жыл бұрын
@@warnerbeckett3rd931 In my opinion, there is no bad movement. What's bad or not desirable is that you don't have many movement options and are not aware of your habitual movement patterns, in which case you're limited to your own bias. We all have movement bias, and that is just normal and natural. I don't think it is bad to be in your movement bias as long as you are aware and able to move into other places at your own will. I slouch, but I don't consider slouching as a bad movement because I am aware of doing that and know i can move out anytime, and i do move in/out of my habitual patterns often. If you make an effort to stay in the "best posture", perhaps that will become a bad posture as you strain yourself.

I have been floor sitting all my life. It actually hurts to sit in a chair for over ten minutes. My legs go flat when I sit cross legged, because of the flexibility I have from making it a constant habit. I am right now sitting on my bed, which is a thick memory foam mattress on the floor, because I also sleep on the floor. Instant exercise, constant exercise

Getting connected with the ground provides us so many benefits!
@mtaur1004 жыл бұрын
Something "real" and interesting happens when one is literally close to the Earth. When I was in the military I once went on a 20 plus day mission where I had to sleep on the ground either in a sleeping bag or between two blankets. I'd sometimes scoop out a comfortable place in the ground to level it out a bit, and to remove rocks, sticks and insects. It actually did not take long for it to become very comfortable, and I noticed that my dreams were much more pleasant. I'm not a "hippie type" of guy, but I think it was something about the Earth being against your body and it turning you with it. When I returned to the barracks, I could not immediately sleep in my bunk. I had to sleep on the floor next to my bunk for about a week while I gradually got used to sleeping in the bunk again. I thought that was interesting.

Aren't all that sitting positions on the floor bad for circulation, especially in the legs and knees?
@TaroIwamoto3 жыл бұрын
not necessarily. The biggest benefit of sitting on the floor is more movement and mobilization getting in and out from sitting position. not so much in specific sitting positions. Lack of movement is really detrimental to our health as we know. So floor sitting promotes more movement than chair sitting, and that is what i am really after.
