When I was a kid, I had a CD for the computer called the "Sonic and Knuckles Collection" that had Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles on it (as well as a special mode with hundreds of the "Get Blue Spheres" stages), and it curiously had this version's music for the stages, not the final game's music. I had thought that I imagined the different music tracks.

Looking at this prototype again through this speedrun makes me truly understand why the zone artists decided to go with more of an Afternoon palette for Launch Base in the Retail build of Sonic the Hedgehog 03: The November 03 of I993 build delivers a very odd Time of Day inconsistency due to the Lavender in Launch Base's sky, especially in Act 0I, where it would make players wonder how long Sonic and Miles were in the Snow Tunnel between Icecap and Launch Base; due to this, it makes me wonder if Icecap would've served better from keeping its Nighttime palette from Act 0I's Midboss during the course of Act 02, it would've made better sense from a Time Progression standpoint and thus Launch Base could've kept its Morning appeal from the prototype rather than taking place in the middle of the Afternoon and Early Evening; it was definitely a missed opportunity, but hey, at least we have ROM hacks to realize that nowadays. In the transition between Marble Garden and Carnival Night, we get a sunset, and in the ice cap intro its dawn, with the sun fully rising in the Act 2 transition. This meant that Launch Base had to have its palette adjusted to a more neutral palette from its morning-esque one in this beta Really its kind of a missed opportunity; you spend so much of Ice Cap underground that they might as well have kept it night time so Launch Base could have had its morning palette

This must be Sonic 3 finished map cause original level select has flying battery after carnival night. Get a sega and a copy of Sonic 3, put in the stage select code and you'll see. There's a hidden emerald stage on Sonic 3. You beat it and you'll get a invisible emerald. On sound test; play a bunch of random stage music tracks quickly go too special stage 2, hold a hit start. First, you gotta have stage select code in.

You would be surprised by the amount of times folks at Sonic Retro and Sonic Hacking Contest attempted to make "playable" version of betas starting from the final games. I'd totally play Edit: yeah Sonic 3 prototype styled isn't there yet ofc. Edit 2: Sonic 3 complete can be edited with some of these features! You can patch Sonic 1 or Sonic 2 graphics, you can select the originally intended level order and even the prototype music! Even the old palette for Flying Battery. I don't remember if there was the alternate intro with surfing Sonic, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was there.

@@AGGSab well luckily I have tried it, and it works, but, it's kinda hard to play then, considering the fact that camhack doesn't work, it boots the game, if you load a level, the emulator will instantly crash, so I had to add the Lua script for Sonic's things and everything. To see what's Sonics speed and what time do I need to jump and how many hits does eggman have. Tldr; it was a disaster

In the marble garden zone there is a badnik that looks like a Spike. But when you jump on it it bounces you. You can destroy it by spin dashing into it or using the insta Shield while bouncing on the badnik.
