I have an older unit with a drawer load instead of a slot. Burnt hundreds of CD'S with it over the last 15 years or so but doesn't see much use now since I started streaming. They were great machines.
@12voltvids9 ай бұрын
No streaming here. Refuse to pay for data. Get 3 gigs a month and that is enough for what I use. Kids pay about 80 bucks a month for their cell bills, mine is 15 bucks a month and its going to stay that way.

Nice machine, I have the Tascam CD-RW4U recorder, bought it years ago for peanuts, took me 2 years to find the original remote, brilliant machine! I also have a Sony double CD recorder & the original Philips recorder, but these only work with the expensive music CD-R's. luckily I got 100 of these given to me, but the Tascam is far more use to me, also connects to my PC 😁

Love your videos. I wish you were closer to New Hampshire so I could bring my AV equipment to you for repair. I have 2 Tascam CDRW900s and about 20 CDRW700s that either work or are broken.

My second one with tray load, is in a shop as something disabled drawer open-close. Prior slot-load model loading and reading TOC failed and I tossed it. Got a few years use of each. That is, home use and it seem to have non-professional construction. I dub my Lps and used to make a few 'mix' CD.

Great Tascam! I will never sell my Tascam DV RA1000HD and also my small home CD burner Phillips CDR-760 even if it records only on 'Audio CD-R / CD-RW. The Tascam is very complex and full of professional functions such as serial copy management which can even be programmed. My vinyls recorded in DSD sound identical but what a joy to finally be able to turn up the volume without hearing feedback.
@12voltvids9 ай бұрын
Yes it can be programmed for serial copy management.

@@12voltvidsHey Dave fantastic score on a pro unit 😃. I have two consumer units one is a Pioneer, I don't recall the model it is a single well. The other is a Yamaha and get this it is like a dual cassette deck, the (deck A) left side is a player (CDs and CDRWs no MP3s, deck B records and plays, obviously right? It doesn't play MP3s either as far as I know. The Yamaha has a keyboard (PS/2) jack. You can plug a PC keyboard in and type the CD Title and song tracks rather than using that agerfrithen twisty knob on your unit. Both are those serial copy management system (SCMS) and require the CDR and CDRW discs or neither machine will record. I tried the swippy swappy thing like the guy you were talking about and well the machine showed it recorded and even played what I recorded until I ejected the disc LOL. Evidently it recognized the disc wasn't a CDRW for audio and recked the table of contents to make it unplayable in itself or other machines. I almost decided to purchase a commercial stand alone music CDR and CDRW machine. But for a very young guy not much out of highschool I didn't have the funds. Now looking back I'm glad I didn't get it because I can burn all types of discs in the computer drive and oddly the computer drives (or at least some) don't like the dedicated CDR for music discs. I tried a CDRW for audio and seemed to write fine however it didn't play in a CDRW compatible player. Go figure LOL anyway enjoy your excellent new dedicated music CDR/RW standard disc machine. Ohhhhh I used the ones I have quite a bit and it was extremely annoying because the clipped some songs I tried recording so aggravating. I was told the pro/commercial units have a buffer that prevented the cut off at the start of some songs. As I understood it took as much as a half a second to actually start recording from record/pause mode which is what caused the clip/cut of the start in some circumstances. Not an issue using the 🖥️ it never clipped the start of what I wrote to any of my discs. Perhaps you can check out the ins and outs of your to see if the pro units have that issue. Being a commercial unit I'm guessing they ensured that the start of songs didn't get cut off. Best wishes for you as you are fighting that nasty COVID at the moment. All the best to you my friend. Get well soon.

@@darinb.3273 from what i understand the disk swap had to be done and the full disk recorded without stopping it or ejecting and then the disk finalized in the same session. Perhaps it works only on some machines.

@@12voltvids A late reply back from me LOL. It wasn't enough for me to try it again, I was happy I didn't have to do any of it in real time. For me it was a passing thought to try it and see what happened. I completely agree it may be specific to each machine or perhaps I wasn't holding my mouth right when I was experimenting. A long time ago I found a 100 pack spindle of CD-Rs that could be used in the computer or stand alone audio CD-R recorders. They are those light green dye type, I forget what the name of it. I like the dark blue dye (don't remember what that dye is called either) the contrast was much easier for human eyes to see. Whether it made any difference to the CD machines who knows. You having an O-scope could look at the clarity of the eye pattern and compare the differences in the dye types of the discs. And of course the CD-RW too. That would be a super cool video to watch.

Very interesting. I never had a CD recorder. DVD recorder, yes. I burned my first CD in 2002 using an external drive. (My computer had a CD ROM, but it didn't burn discs!). Had many coasters because of hardware issues. Finally replaced the drive in my computer with a CD ROM recordable drive. (At the time I wasn't concerned with burning DVD's) My first computer only came with 128 mb of RAM, and a 20 GB hard drive. 1.6 Ghz pentium processor.

I'm in Canada and still use optical discs, and have noted that blank CDs are more expensive than blank DVDs here. The CD fee pays to compensate Canadian music artists but regulators didn't bother with a DVD fee as the vast vast majority of pirated video content isn't of Canadian origin anyways.
@12voltvids8 ай бұрын
Yes i know and the fee charged on the music disks have a higher fee charged. That's the beauty of this recorder as it uses the lower prices computer grade disks. I have that memorex all on one that records fantastic when given external audio from the aux input. I also use DVD and bdr regularly

I have a Sony CD recorder, picked it up fro £10 from a charity shop. They had only just had it dropped off to them and the guy who owned it as a DJ or something and said he had never used it at all so it had 0 hours on it. Unfortunately it uses the "for music" discs but I just use it with RW discs to capture audio which I then rip on the PC so I can do what I like after that point. It has two drives as well, one a standard CD player mechanism for playback and the other is a computer type mechanism that records. The recording side is also MP3 capable and both sides support CD text.
@12voltvids9 ай бұрын
In reality those are fine if you have cdrw audio disks. Use them to make your compilation from analog source then just burn a copy on the computer or rip them on computer. The ad converter on these machines is better then any ad converter in sound cards for sure. As long as you have a few cdrw music disks you are good to go.

A little known fact is that despite claims in the manual to the contrary, newer TEAC recorders also record on regular CDR/W. They are literally just the TASCAM unit in a prettier box.
@12voltvids9 ай бұрын
Tascam is Teac. One of the best cassette decks I own in a teac v850. 3 heads dolby b c and dbx, auto tape bias, fantastic sound. Made hundreds of tapes back in the day.
@jasejj9 ай бұрын
@@12voltvids Yup, I'm aware they're the same company. Just saying you can sometimes get a better deal on TASCAM stuff by buying the TEAC equivalent. The other good thing about the newer CD recorders is you can use just about any SATA DVD burner in them that will fit (the Sony drive they use is shorter than some of the computer ones) so servicing is very easy. Build quality on the ones made in the last few years though is suspect, they're adopting the Chinesium practice of using hot snot to keep the poor quality header connectors from coming loose.

@@12voltvids Exact. Precisely for this reason it would be important to understand whether this TEAC drive can be replaced by Samsung drives (or Sony or Hitachi or others) in the event of a failure or whether the CDRW900SL has a control logic that requires that precise TEAC model, rejecting others.
