Good straight forward video. I just got a Tascam Model 12 yesterday. It didn't come with an SD card so I had to format a new one. Something newbies like me should know. Also, after creating a new song and saving it, you have to go out back to the screen where you see the time line before you can start recording. Otherwise, like me, you'll be pressing the record button and wondering why nothing's happening. 😅

The manual says MTR is Multi Track Recorder but Monitor makes more sense. Lot's of things about the manual I don't like. I think there is something tricky about the headphones too but I didn't find them loud enough so I put them into an outboard headphone amp thru the sub channel. I don't have mine in front of me now because I sent it out for a power switch replacement before the warranty expires. Still a nice recorder. Sounds like you do the same thing as me and just take the card to a PC for mixing. Cool video ! Thanks !

Is it possible record entire song without using Pc?For example rap song how put beat into it?

Split between the Mod 12 and the 1010 Bluebox - any thoughts would be helpful ! 1010 much smaller footprint definitely but small touchscreen and 4 knobs ?

Wow, I've never heard of the 1010, but after looking it up, it seems very cool, but quite a bit different than the Tascam Model Series. The Tascam is fully analog up until the A/D converter (to DAW or disk), while the 1010 seems completely digital. Depends on your needs though. If you're more into electronica, then that might be the way to go. I'm not sure if the 1010 actually has any mic-pre's in it either... If you need any analog tracking (i.e. microphones, live instruments, etc). the Model series is more appropriate. Thanks, and hope this helps!

@@richrussman Ok thanks - the 1010 would need mic preamp and phantom ps to enable vocal input - i think i'll give it a bit more thought before i decide but i've never been this split between 2 devices before i must admit and since i'm new to mixing/recording - synths/keyboard etc home studio/hobby musician - online research is helpful but sometimes we need human input as well ! Thanks for your prompt reply and i do love the look of the Mod 12 and it's tactile what you see is what you get layout as opposed to the 1010 but people love it too.Cheers Rich from the UK.

What is the use of having effex on the board for each channel if they don't get recorded?

For live sound, the effects would be sent to the main mix. Additionally if you mixed down from the recorded tracks on the SD card, you could apply the effects and have them sent to the main output mix.

I don't like that there are no led meter faders for each channel for adjusting/checking levels

in the display you can select a meter view

@@epiphonium yes I know, don't care for how Tascam set that whole thing up. I guess I am used to how my Zoom L12 has led metering at each fader level.
