For the heating pack, you're meant to put the meal packet inside of the heating bag for "proper heating". Nonetheless it's one of the better MRE's and it's a welcome sight on an FTX.

When I got the Beef Pattie MRE back in 1986 (I was USMC) it was a completely de-hydrated & inedible BRICK! I'm glad to see that they've made a lot of major advances in food-tech since then!

Taras: You're supposed to put what ever you're heating up in the heat bag and then put everything in that cardboard box, That is why your meat didn't get good and done.

Stick the MRE in the bag with the water and it cooks better. More even, and on both sides. Just rinse it off when you;re done.
