Today I take a look back on one of the great indie horror classics of the 2010s. Tattletail is really iconic and was pretty influential, but how does it hold up today? These are my thoughts.

honestly although FNaF has always been my favourite horror franchise, Tattletail is probably my favourite horror game, there's something about the atmosphere that hits the unsettlement factor perfectly for me in a way that I don't think any other games have come close to doing

I find it kind of strange that you didn't bring up the Kaleidoscope DLC at all, as I feel it is kind of important to mention in a retrospective. I think it's also odd you didn't bring up the fact that unlike every other mascot horror game the creator never tried to milk it by making merch or more games. They just left to make other really popular games with no connection at all, which I think is extremely respectable. Also about the game not aging I think visually it has, you can tell the team wasn't as skilled or big compared to BATDR or Poppy Playtime which are more graphically impressive and up to date looking. Also I think BATDR is way more scary, but that's just me.

I think the final battle against Mama was a nod to Furby owners who insisted their toy was haunted I the 90's. Most of the fear of furbies came from word of mouth urban legends where the furby was demonic and killed the family etc. I guess you had to have been there but the legends were terrifying to 9yr Olds.

It's odd because the conclusion ritual does actually fit with the tone of the game, but only if you play the Kaleidoscope DLC. I feel like in that, the tone is established as a comedic horror along the lines of FNaF sister location very early, and the the ridiculous nature of said DLC makes you subconsciously put the rest of the base game in the same category. Overall I feel like the idea of having tattletail be kinda funny came way later in development of the base game, and probably had little time to actually be established too well originally. Btw If you haven't played the kaleidoscope DLC yet, I strongly encourage you for at the very least, the visuals alone!

Best part about Tattletail not being extremely popular, is not only that it makes it a hidden gem, but also: It hasn’t been ruined by kids content creators cough cough Fnaf cough Poppy Playtime Also, a tactic I saw someone do while playing the game was when Mama was around, they literally just stood still and stared at her till the lights came on, and it worked, even if they had Tattletail and he was screaming his head off. I feel like there could’ve been a better way for the developers to have Mama chase you, because if you do this, it’s embarrassingly easy to avoid her

I loved tattletail in its prime! I thought the furby like little guys were really cute and I think the story itself was pretty interesting. I hope people do more with it in the future. I think the ending could have been better if the goal was to keep your own mother from waking up. Like if she was the secret big bad instead

Gotta say, I love the ending. I'm totally a lore guy and I love interesting stuff like that. Also the way the toys seem super un-advanced and immobile, yet are shown to be sentient enough to chant in a circle to fulfill a common goal. Idk if that made sense but I found it very interesting.

forgot the dlc teheheh SIDE NOTE, Tattletail is still one of my favorites above all indie horror, even higher than FNAF and Bendy and while It gives me vibes of when I was a kid, It isn't always in my face like Bendy or Fnaf, It slows itself down and thats honestly good ... I'm glad we don't have Tattletail Back to school bags, It makes it more the charming and a good thing to revisit every now and then I hope to see this game return one day but it's unlikely

I think the basement was too dark because maybe they tried to make be realistic in a way cause an enclosed space with no light is obviously gonna be dark as hell. The difference with this game is at least it came with a full package, did not expand itself by making another game, and came with voices throughout the entirety of it's release start to finish. Haven't seen any of these other popular horror games have voice at the start of their first game start to finish, except baldy... is that even considered horror? And an innocent buddy you have to carry with you all the way. Seems pretty different to me.
@eliescobis9922

since when spooky or baldi were marketable mascots? also give me a definition of "marketable mascot horror" because from you're video i can also say that: slender, amnesia, little nightmeares, outlast, franbow, layers of fear, at dead of night and DHMIS also have "marketable mascots" just because a character is popular and it's "kid's friendly" doesn't mean that it's on the same level as poopy playshit

In my country there is a video about a weird priest who was at the church in front of many people preaching like any other priest except he was holding a furby and he was saying this thing has satan inside him it came from hell and other crazy things. (He even said the sin of lust was inside it which was insane). And the funniest thing is that judging from the reactions of the children and grandmas next to him they actually believed him! I wonder if there were more people like him and this game took inspiration from that

Tattletail truly felt like a fever dream. It came out of nowhere and vanished in the same beat. I loved the horror aspect of it though. Being a kid that grew up in the wake of Furby and remembering the horror that was it not shutting up and going off at night randomly, this was perfect. Unfortuently it falls into the horror games with excellent horror but horrible story category. It would have done much better just being a simple horror game about a toy that wouldn't shut up since it was already clearly aiming for the audience that was fond with Furbies

Honestly, the concept of Tattletail is absolutely very well mmade, but the executing itself was indeed convoluted. Even if the gameplay is confusing, and the last part of the game is a mess, the game itself is very memorable. Also, Fun Fact: The concept design of the Mama TattleTail was indeed inspired by the Teddy Ruxpin Bear, a belovable animatronic children's toy that exist all the way back in 1985.

I think its okay that many of these games are similar too each other. Poppy is like Bendy, Bendy is like Bioshock, and BioShock is like Half Life, and Half Life is like The Steven King novel The Mist. They all take inspiration from each other. Similar thing for Doki Doki Literature Club, which is like Spec Ops The Line and spec ops the line is inspired by the movie Apocalypse Now, which takes heavily from the book Heart of Darkness. They all basically take from something else.
@Eyeling
@Eyeling Жыл бұрын
If you've never played spec ops the line, you MUST play it without any spoilers. The game's story is incredible. And the ending is mind blowing. Its like DDLC but instead of parodying anime tropes, it parodies Call of Duty/war game tropes. It came out all the way back in 2012. Its not an indie game but I'd love to see a video about it on the channel.
