Choosing Your Tattoo Machine: Wormhole Pen Kit Review

I'm a professional artist, but have zero experience tattooing. My friend bought me this kit in the hopes that I would practice with it and maybe eventually tattoo him. So I'm at the "Lemme watch some videos on this, first" stage. This was super helpful. Thanks! I told him that I'm not tattooing anyone, until I've logged months of practice skin trials and then did something on my own leg. And even then, only if I feel confident.

I actually recommend this kit, if you know what you’re doing you’re all good. Just replace the ink (if you’re using it on real skin) and get a better practice skin if you’re using it for practice and boom you’re good to go. I haven’t had any problems out of mines and neither have my friends (whom I’ve tattooed) just don’t cheap out on the ink!

@@fenelustre Kuro Sumi for black and Mom's Ink for colors because they're high quality/non-water based. If you can get a shop to order you inks then definitely go with Fusion Ink, their colors imo are the most amazing. Google image search "Fusion ink tattoos".

It is such a coincidence that I found this after first getting the kit and trying it out. I was so bummed out about the practice skin that I’ve been watching KZbin videos trying to figure out if I somehow did something wrong and what was the reason behind me not being able to get the ink really into the skin but this makes me feel way better, I’m just gonna buy some extra that’s wayyy better quality.

Have the same kit, i got it so i can practice and do it for kicks, mainly wanted to cover up an old tattoo, i invested in everything needed to start and use down the long run, since i am only doing it as a hobby, and to tattoo myself, i'll be using this tattoo pen for now. i already have a career as a programmer engineer, but since i know how to draw, i wanted to utilize my other skills for kicks. when i feel confident enough to do the piece i want on myself, after practicing, if friends want me to tattoo them, i'll get a better tattoo gun, thank you for the video, helped a lot since i got the exact same kit.

Hello, I just got a tattoo kit and I'm putting it together but when I put the needle in the gun it does not move the way it should when I press my foot for the power. I'm not sure what the problem is I was hoping you could help. Thanks!

Kinda hard to tell what the issue is it just not moving? If so you might just need to flick the armature bar to start it or try turning up the volts slightly

When you’re lining with this machine, I was told to retract the needle back so just until it doesn’t appear past the end of the tip when the pedal isn’t being pressed, is this true? I think I have everything else downpat but needle depth is the only thing I’m not sure about during setup to get it 2mm consistently

Ideally you want the needle to fully retract into the cart. If it doesn’t then it won’t pull ink from the cart and give patchy lines. That’s why I prefer to use 4mm stroke when lining. It allows me to stick the needle out really far so It doesn’t dump ink all over the stencil when I’m pulling a line

Yes do not use the ink !!! Wish we would have seen this prior to my getting a tattoo, but the ink made me have some type of weird bubbling reaction, and my arm got slightly infected. The black was NOT black, more gray than anything.

I'm not trying to be an Ass but I just purchased a Wormhole Kit from A*az"n. I was gonna get inked this week with it but now I'm gonna hold off. I have Cancer, so the LAST THING that I need, is any type of Infection. If I walk into a Tattoo Shop anywhere around where I live, most of them know me. However, they won't touch anyone with Cancer because of the liability. So, if I go into a Tattoo Shop, I gotta keep my mouth shut. If I ever got an infection, I would NEVER try to hold anybody responsible but if I look at it through their eyes. I guess I'd possibly feel the same. Idk? Get a reputable brand Ink like mom- The stuff that ships with these cheap eBay and Amazon guns is not FDA approved and contains heavy-metals, lead-and all kinds of crazy stuff

I recently bought this kit, I agree with the ink situation, it sucks and should NOT be used on human skin. My kit had a metal foot pedal good quality. And the cartridges I haven't had an issue with yet, also just might be a newer updated kit. My adjustable handle does click Into place as well. I'm nowhere near a pro. But this definitely serves it purpose as he states in the video 👍

Just a heads up, when you're talking to anyone about tattooing, using the term "tattoo gun" is a big "No-No". Try to get into the habit of saying "tattoo machine". TBH idk what the big deal is but for whatever reason just that one term or word I should say holds an insane amount of power. It's like using the word Nigger. Personally I think it's quite foolish to give a single word so much power. Anyways long story long but yeah just wanted to let you know that just bc I've seen ppl get fired and/or hired over it. I was just with my mate a few days ago and he wanted to check out a new tattoo shop that opened a few blocks from his flat, anyways even though he was just going to get a small and silly tat on his knee cap(a 4"X1" Xanax bar) and the poor artist already had it drawn up and the stencil on me mate's knee and made a small remark about how he loved the new tattoo gun that he'd only been using for a few weeks. Blah blah blah, me mate says "gun" I didn't come here to pay you to shoot me. I thought he was just giving the chap a hard time but no he called off the whole thing and looked to me and said let's go to a proper tattoo parlor. Anyways I felt bad for the artist so I said gun/machine who fkn cares and had him tattoo it on my knee cap lol. And guess what? It actually turned out really well (for what it is) I laughed at me mate and told him to pull the stick out of his rear. ANYWAYS sry about the bloody novel but I just wanted to emphasize to you what I meant about how much power the word holds. Cheers pal!

My machine has a liner and shader setting on it. Same pen. What does this change exactly? I have to switch the cable from one port to the other and press the L/S button to switch from liner to shader... I'm guessing it doesn't change the stroke. And voltage is an up and down. Oh BTW, the rod in my pen is off to one side. It causes the plastic rod of the cartridge to get jammed often. Especially if you bump the cartridge. (I emailed their customer support and they are sending a new one) That was good to hear

@@EnvyTheJealousAn update. That Reel skin is great synthetic skin, a joy to practice on. Takes a stencil and ink very well. It's a bit pricey but well worth it. There's even an offcuts bag which I will grab so I can save the good squares for folio pieces. Good luck 👍☺️

You dip your machine into water when you need to clean the needle between colors or shades. It helps prevent cross-contamination and keeps your colors clean and accurate. Just make sure to use distilled water, not tap

I've been tattooing for over 35 years with coil machines but I kinda make my own and they are a lot quieter than most. I wanted to find out about a few of these pens. Got a few of them waiting for them to get here. The one that I did get isn't what I remember ordering but I have it. No nothing upon the machine, adjustments, care of, nothing. Common sense yes I do know enough to be able to do most things correctly. Little trial and error. But I wanted to know if I can take it apart without breaking it. It's plastic. So the question is, putting it in my autoclave and sterilize it is it going to melt ? Autoclave boils water into steam over 270° F or 134° C and that's a lot. Autoclave runs at 273° F under 32 lbs of pressure. Now what is funny. I just bought the same pen about an hour before I saw your video.

Gracias por el review. Tengo el modelo wh117005-A de wormhole. Me parece una maquina pequeña para trabajos tal vez no gigantes. Sin embargo corre hasta 13 vlts y baja hasta 3volts y stroke 3 5mm . Tras varias horas de practica no se recalienta y algo genial es que la fuente hexagonal de mi modelo tiene dos ajustes: Linner /shader y lo hace bastante bien. Los cartuchos están bien. Pero los pieles de practica del kit son un caucho muy duro y muy difícil de trabajar. Alguien que este empezando podría llevarse una mala experiencia y hacerse una mala idea de como es tatuar a alguien. Las tintas del kit están muy por debajo del nivel de practica. Para nada recomiendo usarlas en tattoo. Casi seria mejor que vendieran la pen y los cartuchos únicamente. Saludos para todos los hispano hablantes que siguen el canal. Saludos y que corra la tinta.

Actually with those fake skins are kind of cheap…which makes it hard to do line work or even hard to go back and touch up. Also ink don’t stay in very good. Unless I’m doing something wrong but that’s my experience with those.

@Tattooing 101, Brother, Ya gotta be careful with that Tattoo Pen if you're gonna travel. I assume that the people working at the Airports would open up the Black Bag ( Protective Case ). If they don't, they could easily get the wrong idea and possibly mistake what's inside that Black Protective Case for something that Women use to pleasure themselves. lol On another note, I just bought a cheaper version of this kit. The Tattoo Pen is 100 % Identical. The rest of the kit I bought has lesser amounts of everything else except for the ink, but I only paid $34.00 US. I'm not quite sure why yours was so expensive. Especially with the way things are here in the US right now. As I'm sure you know already, the Clown we got running our country is an absolute IDIOT who is making life for the Average American quite hard with the Highest Inflation Rates in our country's recorded history. He also Blames Putin for the Fuel Prices, he's a Freaking Idiot that needs to be Impeached. Sry, back to the Tattoo Kit.
