I had a Taurus version of the Bobcat that had an odd prpblem - lead would build up on the barrel crown and progressively throw the point of impact off. So every 20 rounds you had to grab your pocket knife and clean the 1/16" of lead off the end and it would be accurate again for the next dozen rounds. By the end of 25, your point of impact was 10-15 inches from point of aim. Todays Taurus products are waaayy better than they were 10 years ago. I ditched about 5 different guns from that era that had terrible problems.

Nice quick to the point review. I recently bought one and shot around sixty rounds no problems. I wS actually very pleased with its reliability and I didn't mind the double action trigger at all. Prior to shooting j cleaned it and used remington dry lube on the gun and magazine. I did notice the grips screw loosed up. So. I'll keep an eye out the grips maybe some blue locktite.

@michaelsherfield3749
@michaelsherfield3749 3 ай бұрын
@@Finder245 try a smith and wesson E Z slide! Has an ambidextrous safety and the slide moves back with no effort. You could chamber a round by putting the rear sights on a table or even your belt and pushing the slide down. Personally I'd recommend nothing smaller than 9mm. People that can't operate a slide usually lean towards the tip up barrel 32/22 barettas. But that's not enough to stop a man sized drugged up threat (regardless of shot placement)Even a 38 special would work one handed. the rock island m206 is $350. Abit heavier than an ultra light but holds 6 with a better trigger than most revolvers I've shot.

@@Mister-sm1hs If you shot an attacker with a 22 lr he would continue to Rob you or attack you until he died. Could be seconds could be minutes could be hours could be never. If he survived he will probably sue you. if you live in a blue state (as I do). my best bet is too give them 2 shots of the nastiest stuff buffalo bore sells on their website. All of those camp fire stories of a 22lr being deadly are overplayed. I don't trust fed win speer to load them hot enough for my man sized carry let alone trust them to make a man stopper out of a 22 lr. I've seen a jack rabbit take 5 of those and keep hopping.

I've carried a PT-25 for many years because the .25 ACP was a favorite of gangsters in NYC as well as NYPD for off duty backup. I owned the PT-22 and it was a fine gun as was the Berretta 21a in .22 and both were excellent! A little practice with that TUC and your group size will improve greatly!

My biggest gripe of the PT-22 Poly was the narrow trigger that would dig into your finger with that really heavy trigger weight. If they finally widened it, I'd be interested, otherwise this is just a purely cosmetic update.

The look kinda reminds me of the Bond Arms Bullpup. In a few weeks I'll turn 71, and I do have some issues with my wrists (mostly carpal tunnel issues). But I still am able to shoot my 9mm (my EDC is a Taurus GX4, BTW). However, my wife has issues with recoil and report. Her issues are the result of being raised to fear guns. It's taken me a long time to get her own gun (a Ruger Wrangler), and she has outright said that she doesn't see herself shooting anything but .22lr. She is not comfortable with carrying (she does carry pepper spray). If she ever gets past her mental block about carrying, this might be the pistol for her.

@larryg.overton...I am going to suggest a gun that will have everyone else screaming and shaking their head no...!! if you ever come across a Beretta Minx, chambered in .22 short, it might be the ticket...the caliber is anemic, the capacity 6+1, for major downsides...the gun is small, about 12 ounces loaded, recoil almost non-existent, which should be plusses...we own the .25acp twin brother, and while it is somewhat superior to .22 short (btw, the CCI target short at 1080 fps the ideal ammo), your missus is the consideration...the Wrangler is more accurate, which is something, but not practical to carry...the Rohm RG 10 is small and light, but maybe more dangerous to the shooter than the target, please avoid...if I can think of any other alternative I'll throw it out here...
@larryg.overton2951
@larryg.overton2951 3 ай бұрын
@@JohnPublic-dk7zd I appreciate the suggestions on both pistols & ammo. I'll look up that Minx later. As for those CCI .22 Shorts, I keep a couple of hundred rounds on hand, so I know what you're saying about those. As for my wife, again, she is not open at this point to carrying anything beyond her pepper spray. She likes her Wrangler and enjoys the feeling of getting hits on target. As a target sport, she kinda gets into it, both with her Wrangler and even shooting my Henry lever action, though she says the rifle is too heavy for her. But still says "No" to EDC. If she ever changes her mind, it'll probably be carried in a purse. I want to be prepared with suggestions if she ever gets to that point. I've thought of the Ruger LCPII, one of those NAA mini-revolvers, etc. Anyway, thanks again.

Rimfire requires a sturdy strike, and in double action the spring is a hinderance...no way around it...not ideal, but gotta think under duress the heavy trigger feels like a hair trigger...the other flip side is the heavy trigger also affects accuracy, easy to pull the aim yanking on the trigger...

Trigger is probably less heavy than a lot of .22lr rimfire revolvers. Heavy strike required, is the usual deal with rimfire. Want low recoil and center-fire reliability? .32 S&W Long 6-shot snubby. Otherwise, Beretta Bobcat and Tomcat are offering .22LR and .32ACP in this tip-up barrel semi-auto function, but double/single action. Nice to see Taurus is as well.

@frankdillon6127 38 minutes ago glad to see any review on the 22 Taurus. i have for good or bad always liked the under dogs of pistols i carry a old PT -22, glad i have never needed to use in defense situation. against Taurus recommendations i load the first 3 rounds CCI stinger and the rest CCI minimag. i feel that this will work when the SHTF. stingers are noticeably more powerful and cycle perfect in the pistol. only questionable thing about my choice is whether the ammo is always reliable i feel CCI is very good. next is how to clear a malfunction if needed, no extractor is a possible issue but the spring loaded tip up barrel will almost always eject the cartridge's.. the slide as you mention is very hard to pull on the PT-22 so i put grip tape/like sandpaper on the sides. bottom line for me is if im going to carry this pistol the first shot must be spot on.

Its a DAO or double action only on every shot with a heavy trigger pull. That is to make it less likely for you to shoot yourself. I would be leery/wary about carrying this pistol though with the hammer down on a live round since it has no internal firing pin block safety to prevent impacts on the hammer. It is not drop safe without one should the pistol fall on its hammer.
