When I was in Year 3 in 1986, I loved The Young Ones so much I wrote my own episode of it for creative writing. The other kids in the class didn't get it when I had to read it out. But the teacher cracked up. That was the peak of my writing career. At age 8, lol.

The one and only brilliant comic relief record. The sheer genius of putting the young ones and Cliff Richard together. And fair play to Cliff for doing it. I still watch the young ones in 2024 and cry laughing. Stomach aching from all the laughter. No other show can do that. And then came Bottom. And i felt exactly the same. Can't see the TV because I'm crying from laughter. The genius talents of Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson. Will never be matched

Definitely. I remember the midweek first play on BBC in the BRoomcupboard, there was nothing like it. Kids today don't get it but the Young Ones was amazing. There wasnothing that wasn't cabaret or mother in law jokes or Terry and June or dare I say it....The good Life (sorry Viv) there had never been anything for the youth of culture. Most people did not even recognise students as a social class until this. There may be saturation now but the Young Ones was special and while it may not age great its a corner I will fight till I die

After all these years this video it's still hilarious🤣 .Takes me back to when I couldn't wait for the next episode of The Young Ones to start. Rik is by far my favourite, then Vyvian ( can't spell it) then Neil & last one Mike. Wish they'd show the repeats on TV now We could do with cheering up. Also like Bottom series & there was another series with Rik in it ,a political one can't remember the name, but it was hilarious, still laugh at the scene where he was torturing a teddy bear & it actually got people writing in & complaining about it. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

He did well not to,didn't he? There are a couple of bits of dialogue missing from this that were on the radio version: mostly in the instrumental break bit,where the sounds of a couple of instruments being mangled after Vivian named them,followed by the sound of a window smashing after Vivian says "didgery doo" (WTF?) Then he says something like "OK,what shall I break next?" Someone says Rik's head,and/or Neil's head,then some (probably Vivian) says "Cliff's head",and then they all say"no!" "no!" "no!" trying to stop him.

I often wonder how they convinced Sir Cliff to do this, I'm almost certain he would have strongly disapproved of The Young Ones. I'm glad they did, this is a classic.
@maz1611652 жыл бұрын
Cliff covers this in this new book - The Dreamer - he says “the program wasn’t normally his sort of thing as the humour was horrific” but he used to watch the show cus Rick was obsessed wiv Cliff n would often talk about him. Plus they approached him to do it for comic relief n Cliff said he had a few reservations which he outlined to them - he’d spent 30 years building an image n got peoples respect, he didn’t want to blow it in one song! He said he’d do it but can we not be too crude or vulgar? The charity single sold over 1 million copies, n got to no 1 for the second time, 27 years after it was first released.
