I've tried installing other esims and thinking I did it correctly, went on my travels to return home to find a huge bill from my network provider😢 Your video was FANTASTIC!!! Being able to stop, start and rewind the video as though I was being given a personal installation session from you was brilliant. You covered everything I would see and I am now more confident in the esim installation this time. Fingers crossed it all works out once I'm away and more importantly no extra charges from my current provider when I return home. Wish me luck. Many, many thanks.

Hey Rose! Lots of luck for your trip. As long as you have data roaming toggled off on your primary SIM and Allow Mobile Data Switching toggled off on your eSIM then your carrier shouldn't charge you any roaming fees. If they still do, then let me know as I will personally visit their houses and throws eggs at them, because that's entirely unfair. All the best! ^Jonny

Monito, I was hoping you could help with a question. Once we are in the country we are visiting, and we have activated our Airalo eSIM, and turned data roaming on for the eSIM, and turned data roaming off for our primary/home country cellular provider, SIM; should we also toggle, "Turn on This Line" to "off" for our primary/home country cellular SIM? Hope that makes sense. And thanks again for the awesome video. I watched a few others, and yours is by far the best I found.
@Monitodotcom3 ай бұрын
It isn't necessary, but you could toggle Turn on This Line to off as a means of peace of mind. If data roaming is set to on for your eSIM, and Mobile Data in Settings is also set to your new eSIM with Allow Mobile Data Switching toggle off then you wouldn't need to turn your Primary SIM off entirely, but again, it can provide peace of mind. Just remember if you switch it off you obviously won't be able to receive or make calls and texts. Hope that helps.^Jonny

This is a great video, but I have a question... at 7:10 you indicate that for iMessage you should select "Primary" to use your regular plan for messages and facetime. If you do that will you not incur data charges while traveling? I would think you would want to select 'personal' for the eSim plan here. If you select Primary because you aren't traveling YET how do you get back to this option to select the eSim plan for your trip?
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
Hey! Yeah that's actually what Airalo recommends, you select iMessage as Primary so you can still receive iMessages and FaceTime calls, but it won't use your data because your Mobile Data will be set to your eSIM. ^Jonny

Is it normal for a message box to appear asking to 'allow' or 'dont allow' new esim from service provider? Also is it normal for the message to display a name which is not Airalo at time of activation? At 6:32 it notes esim from "Plus"

Hope this makes sense….
@Monitodotcom7 күн бұрын
Hi there! Thanks so much for watching and for your kind comment 😊. Yes, you can absolutely fix this! If you didn’t select “Primary” for iMessage and FaceTime during the setup, here’s how you can make sure your phone number is correctly set up: Go to Settings on your iPhone. Scroll down and tap on Messages, then tap Send & Receive. Under “You can receive iMessages to and reply from,” make sure your phone number is checked. For FaceTime: Go to Settings > FaceTime. Make sure your phone number is checked under “You can be reached by FaceTime at.” Once your phone number is selected in both places, your friends and family will be able to contact you through iMessage and FaceTime using your phone number. Hope this clears everything up-let me know if you have any other questions! ^Jonny

Great explanation until you got to describing selecting Primary for the Default line (6:55) so you receive calls and messages through your regular telephone number. This quote is very confusing: "if you do make or receive a call that is not through data or send a text message then you will probably charged by your network provider." Can you provide a more concrete example of how this would happen? What do you mean by, ""that is not through data?" If so long as we still have data in our plan, are we safe?
@Monitodotcom6 ай бұрын
An eSIM that is data only will not cover you if you make or receive phone calls or make or receive SMS messages. This is quite normal, your carrier/ home network will still likely charge you for these things (depending on your plan) obviously you can avoid it by not making calls or sending SMS messages AND not answering the phone. To avoid this entirely, when abroad, if you’re happy not make calls or receive them or get SMS, go to Settings > Mobile/Cellular > Primary SIM and toggle Turn This Line to OFF. That will switch your main SIM off entirely. You can turn it back on once your home. ^Jonny

Yeah switch Mobile or Cellular Data to your Airalo eSIM and turn of Allow Mobile Data Switching to off. Hey there! Thanks for your really helpful video! I would really appreciate your advice for my situation! I am from Australia and looking to purchase an E-Sim for an upcoming trip in a few months. I will be travelling to the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. I am just a little confused when it comes to the lines chosen to make sure that I don't get any nasty unexpected charges. The other thing is that my home network provider doesn't actually have international roaming available, therefore I am not sure how I would even get charged. Would you suggest that when travelling, I pick the travel e-sim line for calls/texts as well as mobile data and then the primary line for iMessage and Facetime? As this uses the mobile data from the e-sim anyway? I just get a little lost on knowing how my apps work and how i can be contacted when overseas picking different lines. I guess if the e-sim is chosen for calls and texts (no one from home will be calling or sending normal text messages therefore no charges) however i will still be able to use imessage, facetime, fb messenger and whatsapp with my home mobile number because they will just use the mobile data from the travel e-sim? Hopefully this all makes sense! Looking forward to hearing from you. :)
@Monitodotcom11 ай бұрын
Hey Alice! I'll try to help answer your questions the best I can and I've broken them down into sections. Firstly, switch data roaming off on your personal sim card, just to make sure you avoid any unexpected data roaming charges. I referenced this here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWPLeKqGi5l-ldUsi=Vraaylt2DdA3Y72n "Would you suggest that when travelling, I pick the travel e-sim line for calls/texts as well as mobile data and then the primary line for iMessage and Facetime? As this uses the mobile data from the e-sim anyway?" - Are you looking to get a Discover+ eSIM so you not only have data but you can also use it to make calls and texts? "however i will still be able to use imessage, facetime, fb messenger and whatsapp with my home mobile number because they will just use the mobile data from the travel e-sim?" - Yes, exactly, but for this to occur you'll need to select your Primary sim for iMessage & FaceTime. Airalo also reference this in their activation guide (kzbin.info/www/bejne/goCmmWhsjr6pi7ssi=-a3NpDQZ6mOzHjbE). BY selecting your home number, you'll receive messages and FaceTime calls while using the cellular data with your eSIM. I'll wait to hear from you, thanks. ^Jonny

Hello! Would like to ask if you can buy airalo esim from the Philippines? Or should I buy loca esims here and can use in airalo app? TIA.
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
I've just tried a VPN in the Philippines and I could access the website and make a purchase so I don't see why not. But a local eSIM might be better, they usually are. Definitely just do some price checking. ^Jonny

Hey mate, can two people use the eSim while travelling? (individual device). Thanks
@Monitodotcom4 ай бұрын
Hey mate! Unfortunately, eSIMs can only be installed once and onto a single device - so your only option would be to tether or use one of the phones as a hotspot. Not ideal but this could be adequate just for low data usage. If you do choose this option, make sure to look for an eSIM that allows hotspotting. Cheers. ^Jonny

Can I remove my physical SIM card and just use the esim to be 100% sure I wont be charged by my carrier when I get back home?
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
Yes absolutely, obviously you’ll be unable to make or receive texts and calls but that’s certainly one way to guarantee you won’t be charged.

Mate love this video, set mine up with no fuss...funnily enough the only issue I had was setting up the widget, when you long click it the widget it comes up with an option to choose which eSim you want to monitor but when I click the choose option it takes me no further. Weirdly I got it to work on the Mrs mobile??? Seen that before by any chance?

Cheers mate! Thats strange and the first time I’ve heard someone tell me that, I just checked on my iPhone and the widget is working normally. Is your iOS up to date? ^Jonny

so on my upcoming trip i will be first going to Germany than Morocco than flying to Switzerland so would I be able to switch back to my Euro plan or is it just easier to get a separate sim for each country? BTW clearest instructions on KZbin
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
How much data do you think you'll need? ^Jonny
@averteramoful7 ай бұрын
Not sure. I’m a pretty heavy user
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
In that case, I think a Europe regional eSIM could be the best choice to cover you for Switzerland Germany, possibly 10GB and then get a Morrocco eSIM, with 5GB. That'll cost around 69 bucks for both but you could also use our 15% code and get it for around 58 bucks. That's 15GB of data across 3 countries, which isn't bad. Did you have a budget in mind?
@averteramoful7 ай бұрын

@Monitodotcom3 ай бұрын
I would recommend just turning data roaming off on your eSIM, you can switch it back on once you need it. Do this via Phone > Settings > Cellular/Mobile Service > Data Roaming > *Then switch it off here, you could also do it within the eSIM under SIMs. ^Jonny
@upless76006 ай бұрын
To avoid any roaming charges what should I do with the set up? Primary or personal? Still a bit confused with default line? If I press personal what will happen and can I do primary for the rest like mobile data and imsg+facetime
@Monitodotcom6 ай бұрын
When it comes to the Default Line, if you want to continue receiving calls and texts then keep this as primary, for mobile data you want to select your Airalo eSIM and for FaceTime & iMessages you want to keep this as primary. That way you will still receive FaceTime/iMessages but your phone will use your Airalo eSIM for data. ^Jonny

Hi, when you are in the hotel and would like to use the hotel WiFi, do you need to turn Airalo off?
@suannerudley81007 ай бұрын
So if the eSIM was properly installed but “activation failed” while in home country ( probably WiFi disruption) is that okay? Will activation work in foreign country? Or is there a way to do it in advance? Great video btw thanks
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
Did you try activating the eSIM again? I would definitely recommend trying to get it activated prior to your trip, just so it’s ready to go when you arrive. ^Jonny
@cyrusgperez10 ай бұрын
So once I get to my destination, both my primary and the Airalo sims will be toggled on? Or do I toggle my primary sim off?
@Monitodotcom10 ай бұрын
That depends whether you want your main SIM to be active or not. If you still want to receive phone calls then don't toggle it off, and if you just want to avoid using any data then just toggle Data Roaming. I mentioned that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWPLeKqGi5l-ldUsi=zCGwCsUduxETRODo&t=569

Hi Jonny, i was hoping you could answer a dumb question, but I am travelling to US to see family and want to get an esim. Can you use the esim for phone calls and messages. What number do I give the family to call me? Thank you very much, you've been very informative
@Monitodotcom7 ай бұрын
Hey! That's a great question, you totally can get a telephone number with an eSIM, although they can be more expensive. If you visit Airalo's website, and click Global eSIMs and then Data / Calls / Texts, those come with a number. That'll work just like your normal one and you can give it to your family. However, they're expensive, if you don't want a huge amount of data, then it's fine, but if you are desperate for a number and a lot of data, and are on a budget, then consider picking up a physical SIM when you arrive in the US, that will be cheaper, you'll be able to get a number, it's just a little inconvenient. If you do decide to get a global eSIM from Airalo with a telephone number then make sure to use our discount code MONITO15 so you can save 15%. Hope that makes sense, let me know if you have any more questions. ^Jonny
