Taylor is turning 35 in December. The entire song is how she was devastated and going through hell and she can still do it all.
@ovrtrubledwtr14 ай бұрын
She wrote this during the beginning of the Eras tour shows. There are actually a few clips you can find where she is performing her song Lover (which is about the man she had been with for 6 years and they broke up) and she’s crying while singing, but never misses a note. This song by reflects how sad she was but she had to keep going because that’s what was expected of her and what she had to do.
@awsome1824 ай бұрын
Yes, but the line "I keep finding his things in my drawer, crucial evidence that I didn't imagine the whole thing" kinda doesn't fit if the song is (solely) about Joe (imho). I personally believe that the song, as almost the entire album, is about Matty. Because why would she need evidence that she didn't imagine a six year relationship? Rather fits to a whirlwind relationship that ended quickly, suddenly, and not mutually. Allegedly, the relationship between Joe and Taylor ended quite mutually, which is still sad though and still would have affected her. Maybe the first part of this song is about Joe and the second about Matty? First she sings that he said he'd love her his whole life but that life was quite short (Joe?) and then that he'd love her all time but that time was quite short (Matty?). Obviously I'm just interpreting. I don't know sh*t for sure^^
@ovrtrubledwtr14 ай бұрын

I was coming to say this! One of my favorite songs.
@NYandAZ4 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Taylor has FULL creative control. She is the boss of 13 Management and she tells everyone what’s happening. She MADE a full album during the beginning of the pandemic “Folklore” and never told the music producer Republic only after it was done. They said “whatever you want to put out, we’re ok with it”. So now she does and you can see the growth as she’s still writing everything, singing, playing 8-10 instruments, choreography, directing, costumes, the stage set design… this is her baby. They all have a great time together. They may work together but they’re a big family. The 2 month break in March/April was for her lead guitarist Paul Sidoti who was expecting his first child and she wants him to experience his newborn baby as well as being able to help his wife. She truly wants people to be happy and will go out of her way to help them. When Taylor sang “Clean” a year to the day after her SA court case. She sued him for $1 to make a point but he countersued for millions. Obviously she won - there’s a $1 bill in the bathtub in the music video from Reputation. Taylor is just a happy person. We love her because she’s so many different things to us. She has 2 full sets of trucks. One is going to the current location and the other set is on its way to the next location. They play leap frog and they are always prepared to take the stage on time. She gave $55M in bonuses at Christmastime. Yes, each truck driver received a hand written note from Taylor personally with $100k check for each driver and those checks were handed to the drivers by Taylor’s father, Scott Swift. She may be the boss, but her parents and younger brother, Austin, are still her biggest supporters. I love how close they are. She is extremely generous with the cities they perform in. Each food bank gets a sizable donation, she hires local people to help with seating, tickets, cleaning, etc. She always takes the whole crew out for a great meal together or she’ll have it delivered in. They are treated well, as they should be. She said that she learned that lesson early in life and she just keeps giving more. Without her truck drivers, there’s be no interactive stage. She understands how important they are and makes sure they are aware of how important they are to her. I love it. I’m sure people were clamoring to be a regular truck driver for her tour!! Haha. That money was life changing to some of those people (the owner of the trucking company was the one who told people about the bonuses) as Taylor would never have told anyone about them. I just see everyone smiling, even in rehearsals, so they’re doing something right. ❤ Thank you so much for this!! Please do more Taylor. ❤🎤🎶

Clean quite literally got me through my divorce, like... srsly. He is an abusive psycho and you think someone is one way, but then you realize... not so much, and it really it's hard to reprogram yourself bc it feels like that person died, bc they're so completely different in reality... clean for me just captures something that no other song could at that moment in time.

The chorus has a happy melody because it is sarcastic, the lyrics are depressive and the music is happy. It's a song of resilience. The instrumental is like the simplicity of a signature, it is very unique, it has many layers, micro details and the sounds are distributed in space in a way that could not be replicated exactly.

The beat of this song is meant to invoke the click track from when she performs live, specifically in this case in the Eras Tour. You can hear shuffling and banging at different points, meant to represent backstage noise, and hear her count ins. How neat is it that she performed the Eras Tour for an entire year, and then released an album that included songs about performing in the Eras Tour, and then added this song to the Eras Tour list, so she's now performing the song on the tour that she wrote about performing on the tbe tour. Very meta. 😂 And if you do more Taylor songs or performances, don't let the lyrics pass you by. She adds so much nuance. It's part of why her songs have such ridiculous replay value, because you can notice more of those subtleties the more you hear the songs.

This is actually a pretty sad song. A great one, but sad. Hope you guys do more Taylor because she has some incredible stuff. Especially live versions. Most people who haven't really paid too close attention to her career and albums the last decade are pleasantly surprised and/or shocked by the diversity of her albums and how completely different they realized she is now. Not a 16 year old girl strumming her guitar. Her albums Reputation, Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Midnights, And Tortured Poets Department are all extraordinary, and also very different from each other. Except Folklore and Evermore. They're sister albums. But as I said most reactors that go down this rabbit hole (and I watch ALOT of them)end up hooked! And once you reel us Swifties in their pages in turn really grow as well. Which is a plus for reactors. Anyway, she has something for just about anyone. Nice reaction guys! And yes her live shows are EXTRAORDINARY!

She has a financial manager and a publicist. She chooses her musicians, dancers, singers, etc. She writes all her songs, has directed some of her videos, and for those she hasn't directed, she writes the script for the videos and comes up with the concept for them. She gave the truckers 100K in bonuses and wrote them a personal note thanking them for their efforts. Her father, Scott Swift handed the letter personally to them. The owner of the truck company was the one who disclosed that she had given them the bonuses.; she didn't self publicist the info. The owner said his company work with a lot of artists who give a between 5k and 10 K bonuses and what she did was life changing for most of the truckers bc they could use that money for a house down payment etc. She also gave 50 K bonuses to the rest fo the people involved in the eras tour.

Similar to another comment I see here, I'm a 57-year-old retired Army vet, and Taylor Swift is my all-time favorite musical artist, hands down. The Eras Tour was the best musical event I've ever been to--no comparison. My wife and I go to a ton of live music--everything from opera and symphony to Reggaeton to hip-hop to classic rock (e.g. the Stones, Elton John) to pop (Lady Gaga) and small indie stuff (San Fermin is an awesome band!; Mason Jennings--super good; the Bleachers, Manchester Orchestra, etc). No one, in my experience, compares to Taylor in terms of concert excitement and vibes, singer-song writer abilities, marketing acumen, ability to put together an outstanding team around her, decency and humanity, blah, blah, blah. Hope to see more Swift reactions from you--really appreciate your insights as professional musicians!

I’m 28 and I’ve been a Swiftie since the beginning (2006) when I was 11! I absolutely loved this video and I think you guys might enjoy The Black Dog off of Taylor’s newest album The Tortured Poets Department -The Anthology🖤

It’s funny to choose this particular video as your first reaction to Taylor…This song is about her breakup as she was starting this epic Eras tour, so the video is of course showing the behind the scenes. And yes, she wrote and recorded this whole album WHILE touring.

Have you guys watched the Eras Tour movie? That's a whole movie on her concert. I think you would love it.

I am new! I love this and your attitudes! I am dying laughing though, as I can't tell if the talking about how happy she is, was sarcasm or missing the lyrics? It's about having to perform and portray happiness to her audience on the eras tour, even as her long term relationship ended and she had a brief fling which ended badly. I noticed you mentioned liking to play as you watch and Taylor has lots of great acoustic performances, as well as those where she plays with the band. I'd love to see you do more.
