Better Man is a song Taylor wrote for the RED album but was left off the record because it had the same message as many other songs and it would have felt like bashing people over the head with it. A few years later, she gave to Little Big Town in 2016 because she thought their harmonies would go well with it and wanted the song to have a life of its own even if it wasn't with her. They released their version of it, and it went on to win them Best Country/Pop Duo Performance at the Grammys and won Song of the Year at the Country Music Awards. Swifties begged Taylor to sing her own version of it, and then the version at the Bluebird came out and we were even more insane for her version. So she decided to just add it in the re-recording of RED TV. Babe was a song Taylor wrote for RED with Patrick Monahan of Train, that also didn't make it because again, same message repeatedly too many times might get old. RED was already massive in size. So she gave it to Sugarland in 2018. She featured in their MV for it too and sang backing vocals on the track. Swifties, of course, wanted Taylor's version only so eventually she chose to add it to RED TV as well since it was originally for RED anyway.

Some were sold to other bands. Some were demos. She said that if they are vault songs that were never released in any way, she will record them like it’s brand new. So unreleased songs get the current Taylor treatment.
