Hey Taylor! In your opinion, how does this perform with a tube power amp and a real cabinet? Are there better alternatives at this price point? Anyway, appreciate your effort with the channel. I’ll watch your vid. I thought I’d ask my question before watching your vid as most demos seem to be geared toward home recording. Until now I’d been looking at the hx stomp, largely due to the drive stacking ability. Can you stack od’s with this as well? Thanks again.

getting one of these ASAP to pair with my HX Stomp since learning with HX command center and using instants to change parameters/presets via snapshots on the ToneX I can effectively have a 3 channel setup per preset on the stomp especially since the ToneX is gapless! This thing is SUPER powerful and I feel unlocks a lot of potential for the stomp when not having to rely on its amps, cabs, and some dynamics. Can't wait for it, its gonna be awesome not having mad gain staging issues from using snapshots on the stomp to change gain sweeps and having that HIDEOUS pop every time!

Tonex already has Overdrive models but like i already said you cannot use these models and amp models together!Even if the OD was combined in a capture with a amp model you would most likely not have any control over it,it would be always on and you could not adjust tone or drive levels!Tonex needs to add the OD feature as it's own effect block so you have control over all the parameters,they could do this in a future firmware update!

I am a Quad Cortex user but I love seeing new shit that comes out and am open to the idea that there is probably better gear than what I use. I would love to see how someone would incorporate this into their rig. Like who does it benefit exactly? The only thing I can think of is someone who has some pedals that they love and wants a good amp modeler to stick on their board. It sounds good but how much of a price difference is it really compared to the QC? With the QC I don't need anything else besides the unit and some cables to capture. It is also my entire rig sometimes with many I/O options for FOH and monitoring purposes live. I love gear that is versatile so I guess what I am curious about is how many different ways can you use this thing?I started with an HX stomp and am still convinced that if you are looking for an all encompassing rig on a budget, that is the way to go. idk maybe this will help someone decide what might be best for them. Thanks for the demo!
@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley Жыл бұрын
Yeah not going to have as many options as the QC, but also is $1400 less. Anything you want to add on would have to be modular, so like a cab sim pedal if you want cab and direct output for example. But at the price point, for what it does is amazing. TBH with you, I also prefer the idea of capturing in an app vs with the QC. You can capture whatever you want, and also have them in a plugin for mixing without having run DI's out through a piece of hardware if you have a capture you really like.

@nj1255
@nj1255 Жыл бұрын
Just to be clear: it's $399 excl VAT, $499 incl VAT. Still a superb deal for what you get! It's literally less than a 1/4 the price of a Kemper or Quad Cortex. Sure, with the QC you get tons of more features, but this comparatively tiny pedal has almost the same amount of features that a Kemper has. The only thing it doesn't do compared to a Kemper is the capturing itself. The ToneX Capture box is only $213 (Thomann price) so both together are still $1300 cheaper than a Kemper.
@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley Жыл бұрын
That's a good point, I'm in the states so no VAT. Also, you don't need a capture box to make tone models, but it definitely does help to make a cleaner capture.
@nj1255
@nj1255 Жыл бұрын
@@TaylorDanley Do you pay any sales tax instead, or is there no extra tax at all when you buy it in the US? Yes, I know that you don't need to have specifically the ToneX capture, but I'm guessing that you would need to have some sort of re-amp box (or an audio interface with an instrument level output), otherwise the impedance on the amp input won't be the same as if you connect your guitar to it. Have you tried creating a profile using a line output directly into an amp? Would be interesting to hear what difference it would make.
@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley Жыл бұрын
@@nj1255 depends on the state, I live in one of the few that has no sales tax, so I don’t pay any. Yes, they recommend the box for the cleanest signal, but you can use just an audio interface as long as it has the required I/O

I don't understand why people are complaining about no FX loop. If you're integrating this with a multi effects pedal, you put this in the loop. If you're using stompboxes, put your wah/OD/etc in front of this pedal and then put delay/chorus/etc after it. Is the reverb on this unit so coveted that you are upset you can't stick your delay in front of it? Or do you think there's really a dramatic tone difference in having your time based fx pre-IR vs post-IR? This is an amp replacement, not a multi effects and the reverb is to get you by in a pinch when you're using this device alone

Hey Taylor! I’m watching your video a second time since I just got done watching the Tone Wars video and saw your comment on there. I love your videos and particularly like how honest you tend to be. With that said I was hoping to ask a question. I’m trying to decide whether to get this ToneX pedal and combine it with a power amp such as the Seymour Duncan 170, or go full tube with the PRS MT15. They are similar price points and both have their quirks, what would be your take regarding this choice? I appreciate you!
@TaylorDanley

Cool dude, thanks so much. I'm glad you notice.. I really try to be fair, even when I'm hyped on something like this (it's hard lol). I've personally never played an MT15, so I can't tell you for sure but what I would say is I know the ToneX pedal + Power amp would cover ALOT more ground. I haven't dove into the world of tone model sharing yet, so I don't know what's really out there, but I feel like the few I've done with my amps are close enough sonically to get a green light from me. Plus you get all the additional features/controls in the pedal AND amplitube (which is honestly a little overwhelming in terms of software). Hope that helps!

@TaylorDanley
@TaylorDanley Жыл бұрын
Thanks dude. The ge lite doesn’t really “capture” like toneX or kemper, etc. It is more of a tone match system. So you feed it a tone, and then it will match the EQ essentially. If you were going to use toneX with ge lite, I’d use the toneX for your amp tones, and plug it into the effects loop.

This is a pedal / preamp. Just run your delay or reverb between this and your power amp. And delays and reverb work in front too. Just sayin.

I totally agree with you here. This is a very exciting piece of gear that pushes the industry forward. I'm not absolutely convinced about the sound on either sides (software and hardware). What I would actually love to see/hear is an Overloud TH-U version of that thing. Nevertheless, at that price, I might just buy one just to fidget around with. Good demo buddy!

Hey dude! Nice to see you here. I'm surprised Overloud didn't jump on this years ago. They clearly had some Kemper thing going on in TH-U, but decided to keep it proprietary so they could sell packs for TH-U vs opening it up to the market. Huge missed opportunity IMO!
@krokmiten

@@TaylorDanley Hey man! TH-U is an amazing product but Overloud is a strange company making odd moves. They've should go hardware a long time ago. I'm under the impression they're pretty much just a Slate Digital kitchen nowadays. That being said, I just ordered a ToneX pedal, I should receive next tuesday. BTW: Check out my 4rth album TAU on my channel. You're partly responsible for its release since your song challenge got me out of a rut.

Interesting piece of kit. You're using the term robust a lot, no clue what you mean by it in this context (and it seems to mean different things everytime you use it). Is it the quality of the hardware, the quality of the software, the quality of the eco system?

It is a little odd in this space, but when you consider their other pedals and the main competition for those being things like strymon, I sort of get it. It might be weird to have one pedal in their lineup with a slick LED display and menu system and all others like this. That's why I'm hoping for a 2.0 unit that is truly a multi effect unit.

I’m confused by your logic of having a solid state power amp on max volume and altering the volume on he pre amp or modeller? Wouldn’t that mean you’re not getting a clean power amp tone? It would be breaking up a lot at full volume surely?

You can consider this "pedal" as an audio interface that you can use on your DAW, like a focusrite scarlet, but then it has extra stuff! Imagine buying this just to plug a guitar into a pc then use NAM for tones 😂😂

Most modelers sound pretty good but it depends what you play them through, playing through a studio monitor will not sound like playing through the front or return of your tube or solid state amp!I would like to see someone come out with Power Amp Tube Modeling only that you could have a choice of 12 or more models!You already have the Preamp section in any modeler you buy!This would get you much closer to a modeler sounding like a tube amp without having to buy a real one!

I think there's been a market of budget amps and amp adjacent devices for a really long time. It just seems that with the progression of home recording and "bedroom producers" that it's grown in popularity. But yes, the legacy tube amps that command a high price are a luxury for most players. That's why this is cool, you can grab those tones from other people and have them wherever you go!

Great video man , though I have to say I see no point buying it. Doesn't have all of the features of other modelers for about the same price as my ampero 2. Thanks dude! I think you're missing what this thing is though... The ampero 2 can't sample analog gear like amplifiers, and pedals. It also doesn't serve as a separate plugin. They're completely different things!
