I just tested my M4 against the M6 with my own shaft and I prefer the sound and look of the M6. But it sits closed, and my max ball speed came with the M4. But M6 felt more consistent and more forgiving. But no need to switch from the M4. I still would like to just get a free ping G410.

I Just picked mine up from the Post Office, drove directly to the driving range, hit two large buckets, and I agree the straighter more distance balls were hit to the heel side. I started lining up the driver head at set up almost at the Hosel and those were my best drives. Just have to force myself to do that now that I own it. Although I bought it with Mastercard Points.

One thing I'll say about TaylorMade, they've done a great job of making their drivers look and sound the same, regardless of whether you end up fitting better into the M5 or M6. It's a pretty great piece of engineering to get such similarity, and helps a player get over the idea that one is a more "for the masses" driver than the other.

Speed foam, hammerhead, twist face, turbulators, speed slots? All probably pointless but we expect or even demand the manufacturers to sell us the magic “tech” that will straighten out our 185 yard fade. The manufacturers can’t win, they’re are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t.

I agree that this is one of the best looking drivers at address on the market today. Since its just as good as anything else out today then the inspiring looks might sway a lot of golfers to this club and I can't blame them. Personally for me this year it came down between the Srixon 785, M5, and and the Titleist TS3 and I ended up going with the Titleist. All were great but I just liked the sound better with the TS3..... You can't go wrong with most of this years driver releases as they are all great products.

Why would the geometric center of the club necessarily be the sweet spot? Didn't MyGolfSpy prove that isn't always the case? If so, then it stands to reason that the weight pad could be offset.
@leeshrubsole96765 жыл бұрын
could the foam be doing something to the strike? could it be moving the weight around the club (different amount from one side to the other)? if you where to test another M6 would you get the same feel? the only reason why I ask is due to all them being injected uniquely
@dannyc91a5 жыл бұрын
Maybe the slowing resin is in the high toe of that specific club? Each one is injected differently apparently so in theory you get fit for the club then the one made for you will have the resin in different parts of the club. Not selling it to me I’m afraid

Hey Mark, I struggle with finding the toe side of the driver face. I pretty consistently heel strike, and have a heel-ly cut that I'm trying to fix. Do you think that this club may be a good fit for me, given that I heel strike?
@domhancox44515 жыл бұрын
If you think the m5/6 seem to do best from a more heely strike could you not move the weights on the 5 to slightly move the CG toward the toe and your preferred strike area and see the numbers then?
@ricksimpson72195 жыл бұрын
Exact same problem with alignment. The alignment aids on the face and the crown set you up on the heel of the club. Also does not line up with weight in the back. seems like it would make it fade bias,

Is it performing like a P790 because of the resin? so higher face hits don't go as far and fall out the air? Yet a sweet spot on an iron is supposed to be slightly heel biased through weighting? Just a thought bruh.

So do enjoy your reviews on golf clubs. I just find it hard to believe that since the maximum COR allowed by the USGA and R&A is .830 and has been for years that any manufacturer isn't and hasn't been right at .830 tolerance. So what is this slow it down resin all about? Did TM try to pass off an illegal club and get busted so this is they're quick fix? WTH Keep up the hard work Mark. Play persimmon!

@TheChaddavis19965 жыл бұрын
Great review! Question for you guys. Do you think since many amateurs miss in the heel more, the design will help them have a better “feeling” strike? You two typically hit closer to “center” and therefore it doesn’t feel good but so many of my friends almost always hit more low heel and lose distance. And as a disclaimer, I don’t game the TM or any of the newer clubs, I still have a Callaway XR16, so I don’t really have a bias.
@MarkCrossfield5 жыл бұрын
I do t see a heel strike as a common miss over a toe with my lessons. 👍
@TheChaddavis19965 жыл бұрын
Mark Crossfield interesting! Maybe it is a coincidence or maybe I am not seeing their misses correctly. I am not a coach or anything like that so I certainly don’t have the ability to see the same things coaches like you and Dan would see. Most of my “weekend hacker “ friends hit a slice/fade and it looked to me like the strikes are out of the heel. For those that do strike more out of the heel, do you think this club may feel better to them?

@MarkCrossfield5 жыл бұрын
No what I am saying is the heel strike was what you would call the centre. 👍👍👍
@lync30125 жыл бұрын
The problem is the marketing over hyping what the engineers are saying. All the resin is doing is trying to improve tolerances for the drivers to make it tighter although a vast majority of people will never notice a change. I do wonder if the heel preference over toe has to do with the fact that Tiger is now a big part of the testing and he prefers missing in the heel instead of the toe.
@ahastar11415 жыл бұрын
Yes, but I think taylormade is smart enough and has the resources to make him a special heel centric driver and make a more “ general public” version with a more traditional sweet spot. There is no reason for the heel sweet spot other than if they found a majority of people have a tendency to hit the ball out of the heel with the driver. One pros preference would not determine the clubs sweetspot for the entire market
@leejordan72525 жыл бұрын
if these drivers are injected with resin. are they all the same? would it not affect where the sweet spot on the face? would it not be better to do all the injection of the resin on a. custom fit?

Looking at the face-on pics from TM's site it looks like the graphics dont match up with the geometric centre. if the measurements are taken using the graphics as centre (and it's not) could that be why the numbers look a bit odd compared to the strikes?

@jayharris70155 жыл бұрын
I know that I am not very smart but I'll never understand why Mark only mentions "marketing" in a negative way when speaking about Taylormade. When Titleist came out with the new TS drivers they talked about "tour speed" and creating faster balls speeds than ever for their drivers with everyone holding up signs of "gains" in ball speed and distances. Yet, I have not seen a review testing these claims from Mr. Crossfield for the new TS drivers. I might have missed them.
@MarkCrossfield5 жыл бұрын
Watch the TS reviews done a few now. TS is faster than 917????? Remember the boards might mean better fit rather than faster only club also you have no idea what they are faster than. Also try TM s revolutionary claims or speed form ideas. Then let me know about marketing 😉

Is this potentially why tour players specifically Rory are placing weight in the heal?

Your comments about the heel strikes vexes me. You've mentioned on more than 10 occasions on loads of reviews how you're a CG tracker, so why aren't you doing it now? Or maybe you are? CG maybe slightly heely, hence the 267!

Couldn't the face graphics be off because when the player looks down at the address position, he/she isn't looking straight down from above? It's not like a putter where your eyes should be directly above the ball. Meaning, the "sweet spot" really shouldn't be on the graphics but on a line between the graphics and the player's eyes at address? Otherwise players would put the ball in the wrong place at address. At least, that's what I immediately thought when watching the M5 review.
