Taylor, love your honesty with your emotions and nice to have the raw details when one is doing a thru hike and all of their gear gets wet. Liked that you took the time to set your gear out to dry while into your hike today. Yeah your food choices are typical but I can see that you are missing the hostel / restaurant food too! Understand that completely. Onward young lady, enjoy your honest emotions today 👍🥾😊

It is nice to see you be honest and that everyone has bad days when thru hiking. Not every day is going to be great. What you experienced today is the ugly side that so many of us go through. Keep it up, tomorrow is a new day.

Setting up your tent early should allow it to dry. I love remoteness on the trail and not seeing anyone. Just being in the woods with nature is such a motivator. Boots north!

I know that feeling of hanging out at a spot on the trail in the middle of nowhere, just to sit and let things dry a bit. It feels strange like I should be moving forward, but I have a good excuse not to. It also lets me just be in the wilderness. I also have specific points on the trail that have meaning for me even though they would seem random to someone else. I'm really glad you will have a time to meet up with family coming up. Thanks for taking us along with you on this trip.

Even with the drying out of the clothes on a log though I would go for a branch/twig because the log is holding some moisture and doesn’t let any air circulate under it. The sun, the wind, the air, it’s all there in a splendid sphere.

Hey Taylor, I know its not easy but maybe a small fire after a days hike would set a different vibe in the evening and also allow you to dry things out a git before the next days hike. I imagine a second thru hike of the same trail might be different than the first time. The trail is uber mental at times. Just remember you are amazing. I would also think it would be better to have a partner to meet up with at days end. I hope your journey evolves into what you desire. You are doing great.

@John572d4 Жыл бұрын
Shelters can have disadvantages like snorers or tight quarters, their main AD-vantage is from say an overnight weather event like wind or a cloudburst. Nowadays though people can find out if something like that is a risk from the internet or a smartphone, most of the time.
