Grady Hendrix just has a way with writing, I think it helps that he's also a screenwriter. If you enjoy B-grade campy horror movies, I HIGHLY suggest reading Horrorstor by him. It's fairly short and has wide margins (at least my copy does) and it's set up like an IKEA catalog. My favorite part is that the products at the chapter headings slowly get more and more sinister as it progresses. It's also going to be a movie someday, super excited about that!

Grady Hendrix has a new book coming out July 13th. Its called The Final Girl support group. I know Heather from bookables read an advance copy and I believe she gave it 4 stars. And she said it was scary. I know I am looking forward to it. I probably won't read it until October because that's when I read the one you just read. I haven't read any of his other works thou. So glad you gave it other chance and it paid off. Love this series.

I had such a hard time with Southern Book Club bc of all the gaslighting and the second-hand cringe haha, I had to put the book down so many times in the scene with the husbands. The horror elements were really great/effective but I just didn't love his characterization/character arcs, so it wasn't a favorite for me. I'm glad you really enjoyed it this time around! I'm interested to check out his new book coming out next month.

A lot of people are saying my best friends exorcism. But if gaslighting is something you’d rather avoid that book is just as bad lol. It’ was actually worse for me because it’s parents gaslighting kids and it was infuriating. So fair warning there!!

I'm completely a mood reader so I DNF books pretty quickly. I'm glad you gave Southern Book Club a second chance though. Living in the south for as long as I have now I saw so much of the culture reflected in the characters. As a Northerner originally I feel like this book would have been invaluable to me when I was younger and confused by many of the phrases, attitudes and such in the South. 😂

Start with My Best Friends Exorcism - Grady Hendrix has said he sees it as a partner novel to Southern Bookclubs Guide to Slaying Vampires, but about the kids instead of the parents! Big Jennifer’s Body energy. Horrorstor is good as well would recommend but it’s one of his earlier works and a little gimmicky, the premise is it’s a haunted ikea so the book is laid out like and ikea catalog. Really fun but not as much substance as his novels.

Hey, Riley! I've recently watched this TV series which I think you would love! It's called *Katla* (currently on Netflix) and it's set in a remote settlement in Iceland where the nearby volcano makes people disappear and then brings them/ or clones of them back years later. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous, and the tone is very much sci-fi/mythology/horror💕

The second book reminded me of a dorama I've recently watched, so I'm here to recommend it to all my dorama lovers. It's about a modern day chef (he is the boss of the kitchen in the blue house aka the presidential house) who is a womanizer and because of an incident he knocks out. When he wakes up he realizes he is in the Joseon era, better yet he's in an woman's body, and even better that woman happens to be the king's soon to be wife. He doesn't have any of her memories, all he knows is what they tell him, the queen also had been in an incident. So he starts trying to figure out what happened to the queen so he can go back to his time and his body. It's really funny him trying to go about all the "court's" relationships and the difference in communication between the eras, etc. It's called Mr. Queen and it's one of my new favorite kdramas. It's funny af, there's a little political intrigue, some romance and character's you either want to punch in the face or protect at all costs.

Maybe checkout *Cassidy Blake series* (trilogy) by Victoria Schwab - *City of ghosts* being the #1. The main protagonist is in her pre-teens if I'm not mistaken. Her parents are ghost hunters. An imaginary frnd aspect. Check it out if any of this peaks ur interest. It's funny, lil spooky n' super enjoyable time! (At least was for me). It's spooky but doesn't get so much dark that it'll give u nightmares or anything. I read all three books back to back🤩. ...It took me less than a week to complete the whole trilogy n' remember the time so vividly, I had blast of a time then. I would also recommend *Coraline* by Neil Gaiman but I haven't read it yet (planning on doing so soon) so dunno the horror level. If none sounds good to u, I hope u find something good anyways :) Happy reading!🤗
