Hey man. I'm 3 months into selling on TCG player and in the direct program and their new seller development program. I only do pokemon and mostly just pick up collections/sealed for 50/60 percent if possible. In under 3 months I've done around 12000 in sales and it's been really fun. Thanks for all of the tips and tricks from a pro for a noob like me. 👊

We've had 2 accounts for about a year. Similar to you, we have it broken into non direct and direct. Mostly we list whats in whatever is considered standard for the card games and/or cards in sets less than a year old. Everything else goes on the 2nd account. We found that the labor cost did not make sense when we had every card on the "main account". Something we started doing a year ago was utilizing local card shows to offload pokemon. We do between $2-$3k per show. We're a much smaller business, and we only do smaller shows. I'm 100% if you took your inventory and/or went to the bigger shows like any Collect a con or the Dallas card show, you'd do 10k a day easy. On the last point: At this point, I view this all as just working at Target or Walmart, but instead of stocking lightbulks, its bits of cardboard.

I've been selling more seriously on tcgplayer for around 3 months now. I find it surprising and reassuring that a lot of what you say in your videos is things I've already considered, things I've experienced, or things I'm aware if prior to having watched these. It tells me I'm on the right track for what I'm trying to do and that the profits I'm seeing are legitimate. I managed to increase my inventory from around 500 cards to nearly 20,000 in just 3 months and I've solved for most of the growing pains for how I'm handling sales. Still having others like you discuss your experience is an invaluable resource as it helps me understand that others have seen much larger scale success through the methods and considerations I came up with naturally through running my business. So thank you :D

Good point about eBay. I usually only list higher value cards there due to the additional effort to list. Probably leaving money on the table with all the bulk!

Another amazing video. Crazy how just taking to the camera can provide so much knowledge and entertainment. I do have a question I feel like you started to hint at but wasn’t sure if you answered. If you get a second TCGplayer account is there a threshold monetarily you’d list on the second account? Like floor-$3? Or just based off condition for the second account? I need to pick up my eBay game. Sports card are easy in eBay but I’m scared to start MTG
@tjpalme42985 ай бұрын
Second comment but I wonder if Tcgplayer adding an option for sellers to choose what cards they want available via direct based on price level. Example like if I could check a box and say that I don't want anything I price under 5 dollars to be available via direct. This way it would allow sellers to do this without having to handle multiple accounts. Seems pretty cool

agree on $1 binders, works well at shows too (shoutout njtcgshow haha), but yeah totally not worth time to condition, price, list, send vs just shoving anything 1.5 and under in a binder and letting the customer do the work, even random japanese holos of popular pokemon that are worth a penny will sell sometimes

Very small seller here, but interested in expanding into eBay. From an MTG singles perspective by what metric are you deciding what goes on TCGPlayer and what goes to eBay? What's the process? Is it play sets? Is it price point? Thanks for the video!

@josephessig60555 ай бұрын
In my opinion, fees are getting worse on Direct. I'm a small seller usually much less than 10k cards listed at a time. I have had months where my fees from platform cut and direct are between 28% to 35%, that's including some higher margin lower fee sales I fulfill myself. It's brutal: if I could get fees down closer to 20%, I would be making an additional thousand dollars in profit a month. For me, that's the difference between it not being worth it for me and being a profitable side business. Any thoughts on this from anyone?
@Nintendomac5 ай бұрын
That’s interesting because you can get 60-70% value just from buy listing through card kingdom or card conduit. If direct is getting close to those numbers it starts making much less sense
@josephessig60555 ай бұрын
@@Nintendomac 60-70% of direct prices is definitely better, but it’s definitely painful. - everything under $4 or $5 comes out to less than 60% - even over the 50% fee threshold for a $4 card I’m at less than $2 after fees. If I shipped it myself in a PWE, even with no shipping credit, I’m closer to $3 on that card.

I think you could start reminding customers they’re going to be paying income tax on eBay, PayPal and tcgplayer sales this year. Their margins will go down by a ton, so it’s even better to just dump the cards at a store

In the binders you have in your store, do you put price tags on all the card sleeves, or do customers have to ask how much each card is?

@@2bitcents429 no price tags, we are integrated with TCGplayer so it’s normally the same price. People always have their phones out pricing cards anyway so if they ask me I just tell them our prices closely mirror TCGplayer so they normally stop asking prices

Why not have your own store online in a wordpress site with all the individual cards LP and lower with your control of shipping fees? Offer these cards with free shipping up to 20 cards and then put a shipping range every 25 so that someone can buy 1000 10 cents cards and they pay shipping for 1000 cards. That s what I do
@rng-gamez5 ай бұрын
@@le_med the amount of eyeballs you get on TCGplayer and eBay are astounding, we get over 20 million impressions a month just on eBay. That’s traffic you can’t really buy. Gotta pay to play. We also can’t sit on cards for an eternity waiting for someone to stumble onto my site.

@@rng-gamez Oh I understand I meant for the low value cards using that site to sell your cheap stuff. High end goes to ebay and tcg and in your store and in your mailing you advertise the other site for cheap singles telling your customers that it helps you save on shipping and taxes and fees. For people who can t be patreon they can support you that way while getting cheap cards that way and you give one week for shipping.
