Here's the never-before-seen (except by me) full uncut interview I did with Amy on October 31, 2006 - the week Back To Black was released.
As she says in the clip, she'd been at the Q Awards the night before (where she heckled Bono). Our interview was slightly delayed while she had a nap and a pizza to recover.
I love this film because it's how I remember her - warm, funny, charming, slightly sad, messy and brilliant.

I would do anything to go back to 2006. My best friend and I would listen to frank and back to black every night while we smoked and drove for literally years - she was the only celebrity we would google just to see what she was up to. My best friend died in 2012 in a car accident, I listen to Amy almost every day and think of her - it was literally a different life time, there’s nothing about that time that resonates with me besides my memories.

This is probably the happiest interview you could find of her in the back to black era. This was the day the album was released and she wasn’t with Blake here I think she was dating Alex, and this is possibly one of the most relaxed interviews you can find of her from this era as this is right at the start before she was catapulted into fame , almost eerie to look at this clip as she had no idea what was around the corner - she was still fragile from Cynthia s death and her break up here - a lot could have been saved with the right care in place, she is missed!

In all honesty, I'm quite like that. But the reason why is because it makes your life simpler when you're honest all the time. Whether it's self-depricating or not, if you're straight up then people can't have anything on you because you're being real. I wasn't always like this mind you, I grew up trying to be popular in school and not being myself in order satisfy other people who in hindsight didn't really care and didn't matter anyway. It's a learned attitude on my part, or rather a reversion back to childhood, but whether it was for Amy I don't know.

I've been on an Amy Winehouse KZbin binge since watching a documentary. Ugh I hate it, it makes me cry thinking about what what she went through while she was still alive. But in a sense she still lives on with her legacy in music. I miss you, Amy!

Amy is so completely candid and unpretentious here - which reflects stunningly in her superb vocals & writing . BTW, Amy did an awesome acoustic version of Back To Black wearing the exact same outfit in (i guess) a music store...looks like that might have been done this same day (w/ 20 min sleep as said)...shows what an absolute phenomenon of a talent she truly was

0:45 Every artist needs to realize this. Song writer, painter, whatever. You have to do more to get past the blocks and eventually they break. This is probably why Prince and Tupac have liek 1000 unreleased songs in a vault somewhere.

I wish I could time travel, to save her. As an unknown aspiring empathetic singer from a no name small town, the music that is real and genuine does not come from here often, and the fact that this rare. Once in a life time gifted soul angel from England, I connected with her music and vocals so much, musicians understand one another and we have to stick together, I wouldve stuck there with her, even if was as a fan talking to her for 20 minutes. Damnit........

This was such an awesome interview to watch. I read on another thread that the guy interviewing had his voice cut out for the official cut but it would have been better with it! The way you had developed a friendship and trust is clear, And it resulted in an interesting and insightful look into Amy as a person. Thank you for uploading this, I’m happier to have found this. You could see she enjoyed the engagement and questions too, compared to a lot of other footage I’ve seen of people sitting down to chat with her, this is the most relaxed whilst focus I’ve seen her, most were boring and didn’t seem to get her or even try. 💓🇦🇺

Thank you for saying this, it means a lot. I cut my own voice out, and replaced it with captions on the screen when this was first published. That was just how we presented all our interviews on the Channel 4 website back then. I'm glad you can see how relaxed she was. That's how I remember her too.

I liked the question style as well, it centred on her art whilst also being personable and inquisitive in a genuine way, human to human. Really nice to see. I’ve been watching clips of Amy again, and I feel a little bit of a fraud because I was young when her music was super popular and didn’t relate/discover the wonders of jazz music till I was a teenager, and therefore only really listened to her music after the hype.
