Have you played Stars of Akarios? It combines space combat and ground missions in a large narrative campaign.

@@klausfritsch4350 I have not. I’ve kind of shied away because of the campaign aspect. Does it have stand alone scenarios?

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I would have to get it out and look through the rules again. The scenarios I have played so far are playable alone with a little levelling-up beforehand. I'm waiting for version 1.5, which went through Kickstarter or Gamefound recently, before I continue the campaign. They've done some bug-hunting and optimization.

The video game series is my Second favorite Sci fi series (Behind star trek) and my favorite video game series. It has a great lore and a great universe. This game is basically a side mission thats set during the 3rd game, and its only a small bit to help the entire galaxy out. I could honestly talk about this game series for a long time (Played about 900 hours on tthe remaster and way too much on the 360) I enjoy it a lot. A big issue i heard was the rulebook, was it difficult to wrap your heads around?

Enjoyed your video format. Have played this several evenings now and have to agree with Cody..... the combat is lackluster. The deterministic combat feels uninteresting. Even more so when having to sit and wait for your turn. There's no risk to evaluate or chances to calculate. Tried the Rogue Angels prototype on Tabletop Simulator and LOVE that the designers included dice on top of actions to provide some variation.

It looks like it has more depth than Star Wars The Mandalorian: Adventures which I did enjoy and found fun when I played it in August but did think its was bit too lite . Mass Effect has slipped down my shopping list(instead I bought War Story) I'll now probably buy it if I see it in a January sale. When it comes to combat I'm a old rpg player so do like rolling dice to hit I think it adds more drama to a game than predetermined hits and damage.

@TheDiscriminatingGamer I've been reading reviews some gameplay criticism seems justified others not so (review bombing the scourge of the internet). But one thing I did pick up on, a few have mentioned the missions are a cake walk. So wondering did you both find the game too easy to beat? If so is there ways in the rules to upscale the difficulty?

@ I don’t think we ever won the primary objectives, but always got at least secondary. I didn’t play through the whole campaign, though.

Only thing I will say is, you're time frames are based on people who know how to play games. If you're teaching anyone new, double that time. 🫶🏻 Always love your reviews ❤❤❤❤
