I think if they could do something about her swinging back and forth on the wire that would help the flying scene a lot. She needs to look like she’s floating, and then finally look like she’s flying during the very end. Anyone else feel the same way? Still so cool and amazing performance. I loved watching it!
@indigothecat3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that, too. There's a lot of physics that go into this, starting from making sure the actor is standing in the exact right spot, center between all the cables, and that all the cables lift at the same speed and have roughly the same amount of slack at all times. That said, it's tough to say which is more expensive and difficult to set up, a fly-cable suspension rig with harness, or a computer-run hydraulic lift with a safety deadlock. What I would say is that with the suspended cables, you could potentially reuse the system for both the Elphaba and Galinda flying scenes (just using a special light to mimic the bubble), but with the lift, it only really works for 1 scene.

I love this production. I do think the flying in the OG is significantly better though. The *it's meeee* and her accent imo is so much more powerful and shocking in the original. I do think that once she is up in the air in this production, it looks cool! I really think it is an excellent take on the moment. But in terms of this particular moment, I think the original design is better. Her lift off, to the moment she rises a bit more on 'and nobody" in the og is designed to be a moment of triumph and awe. I thjnk they did an incredible job for this production but after watching this particular design in the show, I prefer the original. But..... These actors are incredible. The set/costume /blocking /lighting design are all amazing. But I do love me the lift off in the og more.

@andreamartelli96843 жыл бұрын
I completely agree! I actually love this rendition but it feels kinda cinematographic, with her really flying in the air and then flying away: the original one, instead, starts on the premise that it’s not believable to watch people fly in a theatre so it works in order to make in an astounding theatrical experience. It doesn’t have to be believable, it has to amaze the audience and convey the story. I still love this one though: for a non-replica production, it’s really astound. And the cast is *chef kiss*

Very cool fly cable flying! Maybe needs a little work on the initial take-off so that she doesn't swing back and forth, but she sang the song well regardless, and Elphaba's performance was flawless! Also, I love Galinda's hair, shoes, and really think her jacket is sweet! However, those blousy pink booty-shorts and peculiar shirt and belt thing under the jacket felt really out of place in this scene.

The swinging back and forth during takeoff and singing the final verse makes it look amateurish, but it looks great when she flies over the audience at the end. It’s too bad they couldn’t do a combination of a lift and wires to have the first half of the flight be steadied but also have the ability to go over the audience. Unfortunately, I don’t see how that could technically work.
@pwiepiet3 жыл бұрын
I was actually thinking the same! Imagine her going up with the lift just like on broadway. But at the same time, she’s attached to a harness with the ropes not tightened so the audience doesn’t see them. She rocks the last chorus and after the “renown” the lights go down. It’s dark, the ropes of the harness tighten and pull her just a little up from the platform of the lift. Then the lift goes down. Then she smashes the “down”s, the Ozians enter the stage and she flies away above them with the harness Idk, maybe a little wack but I’ve been to wicked in Hamburg so many times and this swinging back and forth is the only thing that bothers me. It would be so cool if she went up with the lift and flew away with the harness :D
@pwiepiet3 жыл бұрын
To me it just looks like she feel off a platform in a climbing park :D But the Elphabas, Glindas and the whole rest of the cast leave you with goosebumps anyways. They’re absolutely stunning!

I would love to hear more audios of Judith, too! I'm particularly excited about her version of "No One Mourns The Wicked" and her ending of "Thank Goodness", because Judith originally played in operas and her voice is very classically trained.

Also the pose she has in the trailer while flying is very different, it makes it look as if she's actually sitting on the broom.
