One thing I definitely love about old movies is they always kept you guessing how they did it. It was like a magic trick. And sometimes they actually had no choice but to build a HUGE set like that! Now it's all just CGI, so a lot of the magic is gone.

Cool that they recreated part of the Babylon set in the mall. FUN FACT....There is supposedly an entire huge movie set buried in the dunes of northern Santa Barbara from Cecil B. Demille's movie Ten Commandments from 1923. They have excavated part of it.

Hi from Weymouth, UK. Great vid! I walked through there on my last visit to the US and i thought it reminded me of something! In one of your scenes you showed a movie house showing 'Dunkirk'.... Many of the locations for the movie were shot right here in Weymouth, Dorset, UK!! I am a loyal subscriber and have been for a long time... Great adventures and keep on keeping on... You are doing a great job recording vanishing history...Cheers...

Very cool, Adam. Was in that mall before and recognized it as being different than most but didnt know the reason. My favorite short story is by Ray Bradbury. I use to live just 10 minutes walking distance away from the Vista Theater. it's the place I got to see all the big 90s Blockbusters with my dad haha There is so much Hollywood movie history in just that small neighborhood on Virgil and Vermont. Lots of those homes were built during the golden era of Hollywood and my dad being such a movie buff told me about the sets built in that location. I was quite disappointed when Disney removed the D.W Griffith elephants from the entrance of the Hollywood Backlot in Dca. Great vlog my friend, it brings back a lot of memories. 😊

Oh Dude, so glad you corrected the record on this. So many vloggers swear uphill and down that the mall site is where the movie was filmed and I comment, No, that is all the way down beyond Vermont where Sunset and Hollyweird Blvd cross. The stories and info I could tell you about the old Hollywood Oy Vey! I🤣 lived in H'wood proper at the Hollywood Tower Aptmnts from 1973 to 1975 and then in NoHo untill 1987. I was always touring on the weekends looking for old movie set locations. I worked in Century City and back in the day, if you went to the parking structure behind the Century Plaza Hotel, right there, right behind the parking garage was the arm from the Statue of Liberty and the setpiece for the subway for Planet of the Apes I and II. I hope you read this! Keep doing what you're doing, you are setting the record straight!

Adam, right where that Classic Dodge was parked is the entrance to the famous Hollyhock House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. It was designed for some heiress and has magnificent views of the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory. The house is perched on top of a hill, while the bottom part of the property (where the car was stationed) is a park called Barnsdall Park. Unfortunately, the park is often littered with homeless people and other shady characters. For the most part, they keep to themselves, though an occasional, belligerent outburst is not uncommon. Don't worry, they're non-violent. The whole property is owned and maintained by the City of L.A. and tours are available. Also, fyi, you passed through Thai Town, where you'll find many amazing Thai restaurants. The best part: most of the are open until 3am and many of them don't even open until 5 in the afternoon. A tip: most of them accept cash only, but they make ATMs readily available you for a fee, of course. May I recommend Torung, Yai, or Sanamluang.

At 3:35 that tunnel, where you were standing, is at the bottom of Barnsdall Art Park, there is an art gallery and a mansion designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
