പരസ്പര വിരുദ്ധങ്ങളായ രണ്ടു ആശയങ്ങൾ ഒരേ സമയം നമ്മുടെ മസ്തിഷ്ക്കത്തിന് വിശകലനം ചെയ്യേണ്ടി വരുമ്പോൾ നമുക്ക് ഒരു പരവേശം ഉണ്ടാകും- അതാണ് cognitive dissonance. വെള്ളം ദാഹിക്കുമ്പോൾ വെള്ളം കുടിക്കാൻ കിട്ടാത്തപ്പോ തോന്നുന്ന പരവേശത്തോട് dissonanceനെ ഉപമിക്കാം. അങ്ങനെ വരികിൽ, മുന്നോട്ടു പോകണമെങ്കിൽ ഈ പരവേശത്തെ നാം മറികടക്കേണ്ടതുണ്ട്. അത് മനുഷ്യർ ദിവസവും അബോധപൂർവ്വമായി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഒരു പ്രക്രിയ ആണ്. അങ്ങനെ മറികടക്കുബോൾ ചില പ്രത്യാഘാതങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകാൻ സാധ്യത ഉണ്ട്. Cognitive dissonance കൊണ്ടുണ്ടാവുന്ന പ്രത്യാഘാതങ്ങൾ പല ഉദാഹരണങ്ങളിലൂടെ വിശദീകരിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിക്കുകയാണ് ഇവിടെ. Failed prophecies, Debates, Conflict of interest, Caste discrimination, Bullying/ Ragging, False convictions, incarcerations/ prison torture, Sexual consent, Break-up in Relationships എന്നിവയൊക്കെ ആണ് ഉദാഹരണങ്ങൾ ആയി കൊടുത്തിട്ടുള്ളത്.

23:50 exactly the reason why "strict religions" with rules and rituals to follow is tough to get out of once you are inside. It sounds illogical, but thats how it works. I think it is also used by group creators.... By defining shared "difficulties" like fasting in religion, enduring extraordinary hardships in military, etc. Also same reason why super expensive luxuries are justified by people to buy them as "you need quality mindset to understand, you dont have class... Etc"
