I just picked one of these up. I have a collection of volcas and have been using the sample as a drum machine. I find it a bit of a slog to get a good beat going with so many sample options, so I decided I'd grab one of these as an easier drum machine. It's really good and it does a lot of things you can do with the sample but it's so much easier to make a cool sound, I don't get option paralysis. Your tutorial is very useful and much appreciated. You also come across as a really nice guy in your vids, there's no edge there that puts me off, just good, sound content.

I read on a forum, think it was Operator one and they said you could pulse in between effects going up and down on the 1-16 depending on the model. So you essentially hold FX+15 then any value less than 15 and you can have 2 effects trigger back and forth on a 1 bar phrase. you can make it sound pretty trippy like that. There were a few other cool ones I cant remember off the top of my head.

One thing that kind of messed me up - and owning new POs (33/35) before snagging the Rhythm, was that the the little LED lights stay on, when it is OUT of Write Mode. The newer POs don't have this behavior, but I guess it's normal for the PO-12. Also, the lights in RT's vid appear orange, but on my PO-12, they are deep red. BTW, Holding Pattern + Write, when inserting new batteries will do a "Factory Reset on newer PO-12s --IF-- your unit has new software revision. (Make sure you record out your work, before you try this as the memories will be cleared to the factory rhythms).

It's a perfect start. It is simple as a toy but totally puts you in the mindset of to start making music, but I suggest you to buy also other machines (don't limit yourself to what looks easy but also don't go too far with overwhelming machines). Be patient, the moment the journey start is when you decide to give yourself machines you need to find what really fits you

I just followed along with my Po-12 plugged in and followed all your steps, and it was just awesome to make some really cool beats and sounds. Your voice and speaking style make it calm and understandable for someone like me, and I really appreciate you doing this! I have a question: what kind of cable (brand, possibly?) would you recommend for me to sync this up to a Volca Sampler (or vice versa)? I've got these old gold colored tipped cables from Radio Shack from over 10 years ago that are allowing me to play my PO's and Volca into 1/4 " slots in mixers and amps, but i wanna eventually get to synching, etc, and into a PC. Again, thank you SO MUCH!!

I think you forgot to mention something. If you select a sound and let's say you program it as a step on 1 , 5, 9 and 13. For example you can hold down 1 and then use buttons A and B to change just that sound on button 1 same with the others. Or to change all at once, press Write and then use the A and B buttons. I didn't know until recently that you can also change individual keys. That makes him even more attractive. For example look this Video to understand what i mean. 【多彩で個性派】表現豊かな小さなベースシンセPO-14"sub"

I use an analog-style synth(keyboard). I JUST need drums. Should I get K.O or this? I do not plan to invest in Tonic software. I cant justify $170 bucks to input the wrong drum sounds. The synth is also standalone. So I really wanna make the PO as solid as possible. if I got the po-12. Would it work out of the box for jazz, ambient, lofi?
@tonydraht5 жыл бұрын
Red Means Recording has a video showing what you can do with each of the POs, I suggest looking at them to find the right one for you. The KO is great but you have to basically do everything yourself and it just offers a platform to combine samples. If you are able to make your drum samples it works out (in FL studio or whatever you use), but if you want to use the POs themselves I suggest looking at all of the others too
