It's not uncommon for a student, especially a minor, to develop a crush on a teacher, and it's not like you can stop those feelings from developing. I agree. Everyone has had a crush that they know wouldn’t be appropriate whether it’s age or things about the person. And you can still like someone. My friends (I’m in high school) literally thought that I was crazy by thinking it was normal that my bf liked me and someone else. He was dating her and he dated me before her. He liked us both but he chose me because I was supportive and told him it was normal. He felt so bad like he was betraying her because of feelings he couldn’t control and she flipped on him. We have broken up but that is not important. They thought I was being a push over until I explained. You can’t control if you think someone is hot or if you have a crush. Just before I left school I spoke to one of my teachers and she told me that when she was a teen she dated a teacher for two years after leaving (at 16). She said that reflecting on that now as an adult she realized how wrong it was, especially as she now teaches children of the same age. She said she felt taken advantage of and even though she was consenting to the relationship at the time, if she could go back she would never have done it
@erin.196 жыл бұрын
when kids or teens "consent" to having sex with an adult they aren't really consenting, because they're (often) too young to fully know what they're getting into, and don't know the repercussions or the fact that it's wrong. especially when this person is some kind of authoritarian figure to them, like a teacher. they think this person knows best and that they should go along with what they say, because they don't have the knowledge to realise how wrong it really is. it's sad that there are so many disgusting people that would exploit and take advantage of people for their own sick needs like this, and i'm sorry that your teacher went through that. glad she told you though so that she can educate people on it, and prevent it from happening to others

I think sometimes it just happens, I looked and acted much more mature for my age, could easily pass for 18+ or older. Now I am 26 and he is 35 and we are still good friend and occasionally meet up to hang out, and he has only ever dated older people since me. I was a one-off situation and it was never his intention to take advantage of me. I can however see why it might appear that way to others, but I feel like every situation is different based on the person and their intentions.

I feel like a lot of TCC people are lacking affection so they want it wherever they can get it from. In high school, my psych teacher gave me 'special attention'... making small talk with only me in a class of 40, winking at me in class while teaching, asking me to do him favors like help him grade papers, clean his desk space after hours, etc. As a 16 year old with low self esteem, he was an absolute dream and I had the BIGGEST crush on him. Over time, his favors grew more and more inappropriate and isolated. At the time, I thought it was normal for teachers to treat students this way. It wasn't until now that I realized his method of treatment towards me was grooming. Additionally, his coworker/friend/other teacher witnessed his attention towards me. I guess that signaled to this other teacher that it was okay to touch me inappropriately and pressure me to travel to another country with him. When you are that young and vulnerable, you soak that attention up, especially with low self esteem. It is only now at 22 years old that I realize how incredibly inappropriate it was and how traumatic it was for me. I still have vivid dreams about both teachers. All in all, just want to say that it isn't always the student's fault for having predisposed issues with parents/authority, which I suspect is usually the psychological root for teacher crushes. Unfortunately, there are predators that hold teaching positions that abuse and seek out these kids in these psychological situations.

I had an attractive, young teacher my senior year of HS and I think it’s normal to be a little attracted to them. But to full blown FANTASIZE about them? Imagine a relationship with them? Genuinely want to be with them? That’s unhealthy and obsessive and creepy. Not to mention illegal and inappropriate.
@YouFatF00k6 жыл бұрын
alize0623 I agree. I actually have a teacher rn who I think its pretty attractive, but its more of just a "oh, you're an attractive person" sort of thing, not a "omg! I have a crush on you". Its completely natural to find some people that are older than you attractive. I mean, lots of girls would usually have posters of famous guys on their bedroom walls because they find them attractive, or like something about them. But to be completely sexually and romantically attracted to them is just wrong. One person here posted a comment about how someone in their school wrote a fan fiction about doing it with a teacher, and the school found out. Apparently the guy almost lost his job because of that girl writing a messed up fan fiction about him. I just realised how long this comment was 😂 I apologize.

I remember having a crush on my teacher, who at that time was 24 and I was 18, but he was engaged and y'know, it was something so unrealistic, I just stopped paying attention with it. It was there, I knew it, I ignored it. That was it. Funnily enough, towards graduation, cause he was our substitute for the last 4-5 months of our final year, he became sort of my best friend. Y'know these teachers designated to be there for students and students can come and talk to them for help for basically anything? He was one of them, so I used to go to him with my family issues, still living at home and all, it endagered me passing my finals. Dude even took his time to drive me to my "boyfriend" whilst we were having a massive fight cause I was terrified of going alone. Obv, it was outside of school times, but he helped me cause he knew my mental issues and whatnot. Broke up with that boyfriend and felt better than ever. Even now, 2 years after I've graduated, I sometimes go to my old school to meet up with him, talk about how my life at home is improving and all and check on my old school. He's like, a dad to me now. A best friend. Someone outside of all my issues who can give me a clear opinion if I need it. It's great. He's a great person and unsurprisingly, the school's favorite teacher. I'm so happy for his new class that they have him, 'cause I know how great of a teacher and person he is! Also fun fact: He married my music teacher this year - they're adorable together and make literally the cutest pair. Plus both were my favorite teachers in school! Wishing them well. :)

True. In all fairness, about half the shittalking is about parents as well. Really, in many cases the parent is as much to blame as the child. I've had kids that misbehave and run wild...and later find out that Mom doesn't discipline or believe in saying "no" at home, so he gets to act however he wants there. Plus another common extreme...the helicopter parents. Oh god, the helicopter parents. I think the biggest problem with that it gives space to teachers that actually want to abuse their students. It gives room for inappropriate touches that these kids won't see anything wrong with it, and even actual abuse.

Also when the teacher IS NOT a predator, I can't imagine how stressful it would be to learn a student is doing this.

There was one teacher at my school when I was like 12 and almost every girl had a crush on him because he was in his early twenties and was somewhat attractive. The worst part is that he knew the girls liked him and was super cocky about it so he would always flirt with them and it was so uncomfortable to watch. Like he would always flirt with one of my friends in particular who hit puberty at like age 9 so she was definitely more developed than the rest of our year group but she loved the attention he gave her, and it genuinely was so gross to see an adult act that way.

I think that's illegal... just maybe flirting with a little kid that hit puberty early is wrong.
@allysilman16316 жыл бұрын
@@mme.veronica735 oh it was super wrong. I don't think it's because he had any interest in any of the girls, it seemed more as if he just liked the ego boost that came from all these girls idolizing him which is still weird in it's own right. He actually started dating an ex student after she became an assistant at the school when she was like 20, which again kinda rubbed me the wrong way but they were both consenting adults at that point so

Oh man, in eighth grade we'd gotten a younger teacher, like this was his first teaching job and the poor man was not prepared for the several girls in class not only having crushes on him but in no way being subtle about it. His desk started out just kinda to the side of the classroom and by midyear he'd made it into a barricaded fortress because we'll, this is the south so these girls had been raised on the concept that chasing a man was okay and age gaps meant nothing. The few of us girls without crushes tried to run interference and by the end of the year he had one of the female teachers sitting in on classes. I have never seen a grown man look so hunted.

So I'm a senior and I've been experiencing the multitude of crushes on this poor teacher for 4 years now. One teacher at my school is pretty young, 26 and I feel so bad for him when all the sophomores and juniors (some freshmen and seniors, but not as much) flirt with him, stare at him and/or try to get close with him. You can see his uneasiness, but he doesn't wanna shame the girls so he tries to get out of the situation or be direct with them on why he can not date them. He has a girlfriend and the girls in my school r actually full on jealous of her and I can't wrap my head around it. Sure he's nice and he's younger then most teachers at the school, but fuck. Control your hormones, he's not interested.
@2bitmarketanarchist3376 жыл бұрын
Oh god I watched a teacher like that have such an awkward exchange once. Innocently he told a sophomore girl he liked her tshirt because it had some pop culture thing on it that he was a fan of, she said something like "thanks you're cute too, I like your butt" and he just had the biggest *NOPE* expression on his face and then walked completely backwards across the classroom to his desk and was silent for the rest of the period. For the record she would say stuff like that to everyone on the planet. I later went to that teacher's wedding (long story) and the ordained minister in his speech mentioned that the teacher and his now wife had been together for seven years and that they hadn't even kissed in that time.
@KidsWithGuns19926 жыл бұрын
they're teenagers, this is likely the first time they're experiencing these things. they're also too stupid and naive to handle the situation appropriately. fact is, teens get this all the time cause well yeah their hormones are out of control and they're young and dumb. the onus is on the adult in the situation to handle it approrpiately.

This is why I understand students crushing on teachers (even though I never had one), you're either in the phase where "you want to marry everyone" or you can't control yourself because of hormones. The big issue with any age gap relationship is the power imbalance. financial/ social/ sexual. It can lead to some pretty messed up situations. Hell if the age gap is big enough, most will assume their is some kind of exploitation happening. I want to give adult couples the benefit of the doubt, but some people are good at hiding that kind of abuse :/ * I'm sure some gap relations work out, but I've personally never seen it happen.
@snakewithapen54894 жыл бұрын
I don't have an issue with ages gaps in relationships, IF both parties involved are mature and responsible grown adults that know what they're getting into with that commitment. I agree that some relationships can appear very predatory, and it's kind of worrisome that someone older would be taking advantage of a younger adult. It's really not my place to tell people what they can and can't do in relationships or to get involved at all, what you do is only your business. But personally I would be a little concerned about a 20yo in a relationship with like a 35-40yo- because people who are 20 are barely more than teenagers, they may not know what they're doing or be mature enough to handle a relationship like that and make smart decisions. While a 30-35yo with a 45-50 year old, I maybe wouldn't be quite as worried about- it depends on the specific relationship, but I think that once they become an established and mentally grown adult with experience they would be able to handle themselves and know if the situation was becoming toxic or predatory.
@daisymay1564 жыл бұрын
I think healthy age gap relationships can work if everyone involved is at the same place in their lives, but that's a fairly unlikely "if" - ie, a 35 y/o might be looking to settle down and have kids, but their 25 y/o partner might be starting a new career or saving money to explore the world. People tend to want different things as they get older, and that can erode even a perfectly healthy age gap relationship over time.

@Annabelle MacDonald Oh! I have a great example... My step-mom and father have a gap of 11 years and it's alarming to some, but rest assured that they met when she was a mature adult and they did date for a while before marriage. Their relationship is actually really well balanced and my father has become a much happier and better person through it. I greatly appreciate my step-mom being in my life because both of my biological parents were abusive in the past, and she also had a rough childhood and is a really good listener. She's also rather learned in mental health(having dealt with it personally) and has helped me, as well as my father and younger brother, learn about our ADHD, coping mechanisms, and we're now diagnosed and better off. I know that there are lots of examples of bad turn-outs with age-gap relationships, but this is a time where it made both people happier. C:

this is a weird one because i think it's pretty normal for teenage kids (essentially little bags of hormones) to start feeling attraction and it tends to just get placed on the nearest reasonably attractive person. it makes sense that this could easily be someone you see everyday like a teacher, who is more mature than the relativley immature kids your age. on top of that, attraction to authority figures speaks volumes about your previous relationships/interactions with authority (i.e. your parents) which is why most of these kids will feel they have 'mommy' or 'daddy issues'. used in quotes because this ranges from absent parents to genuine abuse. as long as these kids aren't actively looking to date older people, leaving them vulnerable to predators, many will grow out of these attractions in their own time. kids are kids. as long as its not the teachers initiating these crushes, its not really harmful. i think the harmful things is the communities like the tcc tag where alot of people bounce their emotions around and things can get warped. ive seen abused kids start beliveing that abuser 'loves' them because they think posts about age gap relationships being ok applies to them. kids still need to be taught about healthy relationships. sure it makes a whole lot of us feel genuinely uncomfortable because we see it from an adult perspective, but these kids are just trying to figure out alot *sorry for this absolute unit of a wall but its just an opinion

One of my six graders is trying to date another one of my sixth graders by showing off how good he is at math and she's helping him with his English and during break time they draw llamas together and make superhero comics - if they weren't shipping themselves I'd so ship it. But, of course, that all comes from the category of this being sincerely one of the more pure things I've ever seen. Outside from the "WORLD IS ENDING!" part I think the pre-dating that my kids do is okay; mostly negotiating who buys who chips leaning on each other whenever they're allowed. Navigating the social dynamics of breakups, who you like, how you show it, how you get over it... it's hugely important (because it's my life goal to never see a student of mine on a toxic incel community post)

Lol. NO!!! God No. Married to *A* High School Teacher. Definitely not mine. I'm 9 months older than my husband and we didn't meet till we were both at University together and were BOTH STUDENTS. God no. NO. That would be so wrong. When hubby taught at a boarding school, we lived there in like, a little mother-in-law house attached to a boys dorm. "House Parents." I'm sure some of them were objectively attractive, particularly to girls their own age, but I couldn't tell you which ones, because they were "my boys" as in "my children," as in "oh my boys are all getting good grades, I'm so proud." Hell, one of them was 19. Still a child to me. Our "responsible older brother" child who could be left to look after the others sometimes (according to the rules too, because he was our house Prefect) but a CHILD to me. They were in our care. "No girls upstairs" was a big rule. You want to have a lady friend over, you had better be hanging out with her in the COMMON ROOM. There was ONE kid I didn't really think of as a child, and that was because he had these drag-out screaming verbally abusive calls to his long distance girlfriend about what he was entitled to "as a man" and refused to mind me because I was a woman and honestly all I could think was "we need to do something about this abusive misogynist asshat before he goes off to college and becomes a campus rapist." Fear that you're going to commit a very adult crime is not the reason you want your teacher to stop thinking of you as a child.

i've never hated a teacher (i can say they're annoying but unless they were genuinley unfair and scummy i didnt hate them) but i didnt love a teacher either, except for one teacher, she was our english teacher and i was very good at her subject so shed sometimes act casual with me but i saw her as a big sister.

When I first started highschool (I'm 13 yrd old) someone started a rumor about me that I have a crush with my teacher who I'm friends with (kinda? Idk, we're close tho). That rumor just died but after that, my teacher doesn't want to speak to me anymore outside class. Thank you, whoever you are for destroying my relationship to a supposed-to-be parental father figure.
