Dictations in English will allow your English listening skills to improve along with your spelling!
This video will help you practice your English listening and English writing skills! In this exercise, I give you 10 dictations - sentences that include word pairs in English that are confusing because of small differences between them. English language learners and native English speakers alike often make spelling mistakes when writing these words!
Dictations, in general, are great practice for anyone who would like to improve their English language skills. This type of listening practice can also help you to become a better note-taker by encouraging to think about the context clues in each sentence as you write what is being said.
Questions start at 1:13
Answers start at 6:02
Thanks for watching, for more videos to help you improve your English language skills and/or prepare for the Duolingo English Test, please subscribe to my channel!

Hi! Thank you for the videos, it helps a lot! I have taken the duolingo English test three times. Every time they say it could not be certified because of my speaking response was not related to the question they asked. I feel like it is really unfair because I didn’t hear one of the word they said out loud. Do you have any tips?
@TeacherSally
@TeacherSally 3 жыл бұрын
I have had one other student tell me they had this response, and I think its a terrible thing for them to throw out a test over one question! My only guess is that they could think your response was too general. If you missed a word that really changes the meaning, then maybe the response doesn't sound specific enough to their question. That's a complete guess. Their study guide says that if you don't understand one of their questions that in stead of answering, you can explain why the question is difficult. If you do that, I think it's important to make your reason specific to that question. I would suggest that you explain what you think the question means and whatever you can about the part you cannot understand. If they reject it again, then you an appeal and say per the study guide published on their site you chose to explain why you can't understand the question. This test becomes frustrating very fast when they start rejecting submissions! I hope that they accept your next one, I know its very stressful!

@@TeacherSally Dear Sally, I took a test 2 days ago and I faced the same issue. My test has not been approved because they said my speaking response was not relevant. During the test, I did not understand one of the listening prompt and I used the tactic that you've mentioned above. I explained that I do not understand the question and why the question is difficult for me. But unfortunately it was useless for me... I will take the test again and I wonder that will it be OK if I pass the question without giving any answer or without saying anything?

@TeacherSally
@TeacherSally 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Well, the level of the sentences on the Duolingo English Test vary a lot. Some people get very short and easy sentences, but others will get very long and difficult ones. They say it levels with the test taker, but I also think it's a bit random.

I took test last week witgout preparation and i got 75 score. I thought it would b easy test that i can easily get 115 but actually it was so difficult . How can i improve my score
@TeacherSally
@TeacherSally 3 жыл бұрын
I think the best way to improve is to just keep practicing each question type. Try to notice in your subscores which question type was the most challenging- it may be just that these questions are very different from types you are used to. I also recommend reading Wikipedia articles in English because its good exposure to a variety of vocabulary words that Duolingo uses a lot.

Hi , you did not emphasize on the contractions and punctuations. Do they affect your score?
@TeacherSally
@TeacherSally 3 жыл бұрын
On Duolingo, as long as you do the contraction correctly, it's ok. For example You can say "It is correct" or "it's correct" and get the full points. If you were to write "Its correct" it would be missing the apostrophe, making it a possessive determiner and they would count off a bit for that.
