what helped me the first couple of hours was receptiveness and revving the car to 1500 rpm before letting off the clutch, then letting go of the clutch, more if I was on an uphill. still do it but its more of a fluid motion since its muscle memory rather than thinking whats next. this was in an si with like 200 hp, don't need to in a hellcat that can literely roll off in 6th it makes it smoother in car with less than 350 hp or so.

You should show her mechanically what’s happening when using clutch pedal and shifting gears. I believe an important part of using a manual transmission is knowing how it works.

@@TheHelix123 - actually, it's the way I learned and the way I have taught others -- it removes the confusion she is showing about how the brake relates to it all, what the gas pedal is doing during the clutch time, and why to release the clutch slower. In fact, teaching someone who bicycles with multiple gears is one of the best analogies if they have ridden -- they understand free-wheeling as well as the changing gears.

xjacobx 20 once you learn the grab of your clutch you should go to an uphill road, get the car moving and stop shortly and try again. Perfecting a take off on a hill will make you a master on flat ground. Just remember that repetition is the father of learning.

Atleast he stayed in the car to show her. I told my uncle I wanted to learn how to drive a stick & he gave me his keys & walked off. He had a 1976 vw beetle. That was fun lol. Especially when I got stuck on this deep hill & couldn’t get off it. Had to leave the car there & walked home to have him to get it off the hill!!

Jimmy B i agree in the context of teaching it is a good way to teach because people like to rely on the gas and just using the clutch allows the driver to feel when the clutch connects. However i don’t think it is good for the clutch and adds wear to it.

She might also not be giving it enough gas, well in reality it's an air pedal seeing as though it opens and closes the throttle plate. Idk why we call it a "gas pedal" doesn't control fuel coming out of your injectors. Timing belt and sensors control that
