As an old school high level grappler growing up with Gene Mills videos,,,, this series is top level, must see..!! This video, in particular may be the single best instructional I have EVER seen.. So many great pointers about timing, positioning, etc. Fantastic stuff no matter what your level is..!! You are never too good to incorporate what others do into your own unique style and techniques,, that's what it's all about..!!!

I had this done on me by a judo guy. Then I learned it and I have been experimenting. I like how this has so many fundamental aspects of control. Under and over hooks, shoulder controls, hip controls, foot controls, balance shifts. Great place for a beginner to get his feet wet.
@regalisexa38694 жыл бұрын
Yep, great channel and I agree with his point that the wrestling variation can afford to have some slack (wrestled throughout high school but done judo since I was a kiddo), a key caveat is that the lower your hips are below their's the easier the throw, plus the leg hook defence to against a body-lock/suplex is one of my faves kept from judo👍

one thing you may have over looked on Ken Ken Uchi Mata is to keep the your head above the opponents and their upper body in front of you. Otherwise you need a more traditional judo Uchi-Mata (witch is really hard on a person in a low wresting stance), be able to work into a front head lock or do a cartwheel like on the last throw you guys did. But if you want to coach people to get more consistent and not need rely on contingency plans stress opponents head down your head up looking into the throw and getting the opponents upper body in front of yours.

I like the overhook uchi mata to force the other guy to post his hands on the mat. Then post my free hand on the mat myself and jump to a triangle. Edit: one tip, let’s say you overhook with your right arm and post with your left. Then really aim your right leg to go across the neck/shoulders and use that as sort of a hook to hang off while you swing your other leg in place. It won’t work if your right leg is too far down the back. Just my 2 cents :)
Oooo that's a really cool set up. Is that high percentage?

That is perfectly true. Uchimata is one of the most efficient throws, but also the most difficult to master. You don't see much of it in amateur competition. Anyway, I have to give credit to you guys for showing such respect to Judo, but the feeling is most often mutual. Almost any Judoka would be respectful of wrestlers. I honestly didn't know that you trained that throw.

You'll get it . Spend more time on your feet wrestling with people your weight . Spend more time in the clinch using your over and unders and eventually you'll get it . I never actually drilled uchi mada but after being showed it a few times over the course of a couple years and seeing it done , it just clicked and I did it in a live roll with a guy my weight lkke it was nothing. I was very surprised. Sometimes stuff just clicks . Or .... Just drill it . Can't complain about not being able to do something if you aren't drilling it every day .
@gladiumcaeli4 жыл бұрын
The thing about the throw is that it takes time, even judokas need some time to get the throw to work. a good combo to make the entree a bit easier is to attack with an ouchi gari then switch to an uchi mata, if that doesn't throw them switch to a ankle pick. When you get good enough with it you can do the hop hop uchi mata (ken ken uchi mata)

Stop thinking of it as a kick. It's a reap done with the whole portion of your leg. Toe should be touching the ground like and reap like your striking a match on the mat. Turn and look over your opposite shoulder as you execute it to get off balance through rotation of your opponents body. It's not a hard throw to learn at all if you understand the mechanisms of how it works.

I'm sorry, but this is number one bullshit. While non throwing drills are good for technicality and speed, drill with throwing is a tremendous way to increase both durability and stamina. Both throwing and non throwing drills should be done equally. You should put two guys at the far sides of the gym, have one in the middle and make him run towards and throw them for five minutes. Makes you explosive under exhaustion.
