In this episode of HUNTR Podcast, we bring on Joe Miles of ASIO Gear to sit down and talk deer with us. While Joe has participated in some crazy expedition style hunts, whitetails will always be his passion. There's nothing like meeting like-minded hunters who are just as ate up with deer hunting as you are. Not only has Joe killed over 100 whitetails with his bow, but he's participated in some crazy expedition style hunts across the globe too. Fast forward to today and Joe has his very own camo clothing line with a pattern deer hunters have never seen before. As we get to know Joe throughout the episode, we dive into topics such as his start of Team 200 with Adam Hays, how he started ASIO Gear, and more. Enjoy this episode as Joe shares his journey in the outdoor industry with us.

i've been turkey hunting for about 10 years and i was using out of state maps on the internet to figure out where i could be before onx. the absurd rise and glorification of out of state turkey hunting, is 1000% squarely on the THP and Pinhoti. there is no question in my mind.

Another great podcast.. One thing everyone should understand when talking Iowa or Kansas.....High scoring bucks are not common. In fact, even on the best farms in Iowa 170+ plus bucks are extremely rare . I'd venture to guess 170+ plus only consist of 1-2% of the buck population in Iowa or Kansas. Most people think Iowa or Kansas has 170+ bucks running around everywhere and this is definitely not true..Ask some of the celebrity hunters you have on your podcast like Mark Drury and Lakosky and I bet they will say what I do about % of high scoring bucks .

@rubenroyer9488 I owned farms in illinois and left because with illinois regulations, older class bucks were becoming rare. They are getting shot at 2, 3, and 4 years old..Crossbows were the nail in the coffin for me to leave iilinois ..Also, ask most out of state hunters where they go each fall to deer hunt and 90% will say illinois..basically unlimited NR archery tags..I think iilinois could be the best state in the country for quality deer but the regulations are destroying it

I have a question regarding my bucket list for hunting experiences before the die. This one is regarding bowhunting the Rocky Mountains for mule deer in Colorado. I would like to day hunts, meaning I would sleep in my truck at night and hunt from sunrise to sunset during the day. I am not a trophy hunter, so I would be happy just to shoot a mule deer buck regardless of the score. I probably would hunt at least 10 days. I live Wisconsin how would train for hunting in the Rocky Mountains Mountains if you never done it before? What do you think my chances are if had to guess of being successful 52 yrs old?
@HUNTRPOD
@HUNTRPOD 27 күн бұрын
I would say pretty high. I know there are a ton of giant mule deer in CO but probably more effort to get off the mountain every night. I would just plan to pack a camp in a few miles and base out of there.

58:32 pretty easy to understand how we can be losing hunters, while at the same time it seems like there are more with loss of access. Lets take Pennsylvania. Around 2010 we were still at 1million hunters, 2020 we’re around 900k. I think its closer 850k now. Thats still an f load of hunters, but clearly a drop. Those 850k are more capable today than in 2010 to lease ground. There are more businesses, apps, and websites, setup to help you find and lease a property than ever before. And people have never been more aware of how good hunting is in other places down to the local level. Theyre also, thanks to mapping technology, way way way more effective at knowing what ground is good ground. If You have 100k-400k avid hunters in a state, the available ground to hunt (thats not public) will drop. And the cost will go up. And that public ground will get hunted hard if theirs not a lot of it, or its easy to get to

I’ve been on the advancement of tech not be accounted for for years now, I think it’s what has caused all big game to get hammered by the average guy in less time. Second, I can see if you just look at hunter license sales how you could say “we don’t see it shrinking,” but that number is pulled from percentage of population growth. Where we were 1/18 guys hunting something, now we are 1/23 because video gaming is easier….great show fellas!

Yeah I don’t see how there are less cause more and more people I know either have started hunting in the last 10 years or even have a plan to try to start. Heck just last week a guy I know from Church just said he bought a bow and wants to get into it. Plus you add into the mix how many more women that hunt now then 20 years ago that was something that really made you say wow a women hunting!?

I would love to hear your thoughts on what you think the "hunting space" would look like at the end of 5 years if the 100,000 of "us serious" hunters would self-limit themselves to only killing one whitetail buck per season. They could still hunt multiple states, however they would only harvest one. Beyond that, any hunting they do would be as a mentor.
@HUNTRPOD
@HUNTRPOD 29 күн бұрын
It would be pretty wild. For one it would immediately return a ton of access, people would not own or lease nearly as much land. That said I own land in 4 states and killed one buck in one state.

52:20 just cause you can shoot a crossbow 100 yards doesnt mean you can while hunting or should. If youre sitting on a field edge yeah fine you could shoot that far, but unless you dont give a shit about ethics at all, youre not taking the 100yard shot. if youre on public you’re probably in the woods. Good luck having a clear shot past 45yards. And plenty of people shoot 45yards with their compounds, youre foolishly naive if you believe otherwise And if you care about ethical harvests, which i believe we all should, then using a crossbow is a no brainer. It allows you to be even more sure of your shot, leading to a quick ethical kill.
@chadhouser973
@chadhouser973 Ай бұрын
…and a rifle is even more ethical than a Cross Gun, so what’s ur point? Their point is that Cross Guns should have their own season, not be lumped into Archery season. Same concept as separating Muzzleloder, traditional archery, archery, shotgun, etc

@@chadhouser973 my point is theyre archery equipment and belong in archery season. And my original point is, theyre just the most ethical archery equipment, as long as youre treating them like what they are, archery equipment and not a gun.

Man I disagree so much with this “on private it’s just the hunter and the deer”. Or “his natural habitat and movement”. Yall build farms specifically for them. You set up their bedding areas and feeding areas through manipulation. The entire thing is manipulated. On public it’s a more natural habitat. Other hunters is natural. Predators are natural. Not 5 different food plots and hinge cut bedding areas….downed trees strategically placed to make him dinner a certain way lol
@HUNTRPOD
@HUNTRPOD 29 күн бұрын
While I don’t disagree with some of this, I 100% don’t think the hunting pressure is natural. I’d rather create better habitat and hunt a deer on those natural movements than have to hunt a deer based on how others pressure him. That said I think they both have their place. What’s crazy is neither is really the same as it was 20 years ago
