What I find most interesting about the elves in the elder scrolls series is that most fantasy stories portray elves as a peaceful race, antagonized and enslaved by their human neighbors, while elder scrolls elves have such a high regard of themselves thanks to their religious beliefs that the opposite ends up being true more so than anything else. Altmer (high elves) are often portrayed as bigoted and have been shown to enslave humans simply because they believe themselves to be inherently superior.

Dragonbreaks, the idea that time splits into multiple branches that all converge back into one branch, came about from the aftermath of the second game. The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall had around 6-8 different endings. Bethesda needed to decide what ending was canon for the game when TES 3: Morrowind was coming around. Rather than picking one ending, Bethesda decided to make every ending canon because they didn’t want to dismiss the players choice and agency. This is called The Warp in the West.

Wait until you get into concept of Chim, or realizing that it's all a dream and therefore controllable, which immediately places you either outside creation and utterly destroyed potentially if one loses the sense of self, or allows you to remake reality as you wish it to be. It's pretty fascinating how much the religions and lore of The Elder Scrolls reflect real life and how our religions have so many interpretations. I've always been of the mindset that the Imperial pantheon is the most correct, but that's mainly because my Elder Scrolls knowledge is pretty much confined to Skyrim. I find the Daedra a bit more interesting because they're that much more active and can interact with them in game. Although I have the lore in my head because I had to learn it in order to write my book, based on Skyrim Lore I found a simple solution. Because hearing it so compact for the first time.. is.. WOW.. way to many names. In my world of Tamriel, all gods are descended from dragons, who, through their dreams and their experiences during their time on another planet that was destroyed, transferred all emotions and characteristics to the peoples of Tamriel, where they ultimately landed. The Daedra also emerged from them. Precisely because I knew that many world religions are connected to one another and are only separated from one another by different interpretations and names, just as we all have the same color inside, we all descend from the same gods. The dragons. Why? Because dragons are cool. 😎

What I love most about Mythologies and Religions in fiction is that it mirrors our own in reality. All the different pantheon of gods and being across all culture that represent similar themes, but either combined or separated. Always makes me wonder if all these mythologies aren't just stories different groups of humans have lied to each other about to be death more comforting, but might has some truth across all the various different interpretations around the world. And once it's our time, we finally get our answer.

Also I've always had this theory on worship of beings and different afterlives too, not the first piece of media to it either like God of War or Horror game Siren. So speaking IRL for a moment, my theory is that since the beings or gods that created our universe are either weakened/unconscious because of it, they accept ANY interpretations form of worship for power. So whatever religion you believe in or whatever happens to you after you die, IS what happens to YOU individually. Also humans are partly cosmic beings with basically cosmic stardust particles in us, we have minor power we are unconsciously aware of too. It's quite mind-blowing and fascinating when you think about it. Also so tend to notice common patterns and themes in entertainment/stories across all time in all cultures. The concept of humanity being or BECOMING a single being or hivemind, the collective human unconscious, out cosmic origins, similarities in gods, collective worship or belief making something real etc.

Fascinating mythological lore that mirrors reality and might actually be true. Not the game's mythology, but how different cultures interrupt different beings to represent the same concept of existence like death, life, rain, sun, weather, love, lust etc. While I'm not PERSONALLY religious, I don't shame religion because the BASE being or energy might be real just interrupted in different ways.

@KhadharphakАй бұрын
That is probably because the Hist aren't really gods nor are they recognised as a religion. The argonians love and revere them and involve them in rituals but it's different from traditional worship of the other races, the Hist are more like family or elders, it's closer to dunmeri ancestor worship than direct Aedric worship. Not to mention the Hist themselves recognise Sithis at the true creator.

essentially time can be very, very, very flimsy in Elder Scrolls. both sides of the Lorkhan argument could be true despite contradicting each other. then you have Dragon Breaks. Dragon Breaks are basically when time has a seizure and causes multiple different things to be true. The Warp in the West is a famous example, and I believe is heavily tied to another thing called the Numidium. Otherwise known as the Brass God.

You pretty much got it, I don't blame you guys for not remembering all the different names and whole lore to a fictional universe, but you got the base concept down. Each race in the world of the Elder Scrolls has their own worship of their version of the god and they're ALL true at the same time BECAUSE the beings that gave up their power to create the mortal world are now more subtle/cosmic/unconscious in nature than the Daedra who can more DIRECTLY talk to mortals on what their nature is.

Believers In one Interpretation of a god can't Intentionally target believer of another Interpretation for the purpose of strengthening their Interpretation, cause If they acknowledge that gods are that easily mutable then they wouldn't be truly believing that their Interpretation Is the one true version of that god, which would In turn weakening their Influence and strengthening every other Interpretation. Belief needs to be that: belief, pure and uncompromising faith, If you think you can change a god then you're not really believing In them you're trying to Impose your own ego because the only thing you truly believe In Is that YOU know better, that's how cults start and also why cult leaders In the Elder Scrolls get semi-deified after death, cause even If a cult leader proclaims to follow an Interpretation of a god the cultists under them only really believe In their leader so all that sweet succulent belief power Is only going to gorge the soul of the cult leader even IF that cult leader had truly deluded themselves Into thinking that all they ever did was In service to their god.
