When people tell me Ippo had a "natural talent" for boxing since he started out with such insane power at the start of the series I remind them the reason he was so strong was because he worked on a fishing boat and basically did the work of three people to help his mom after his dad died. Strength and balance are two things a sailor and boxer cannot live without, both are things Ippo developed at a young age not even because he wanted to but because he HAD to.

Ichigo is a part of team talent. Since the very beginning of the show he had been pulling off crazy feats without even trying and his genes gave him extra power in the soul reaper world.

Yeah he really only had the talent physically, one thing most people fail to mention is how his power correlates to his mental health at the peak of his power he’s accepted himself for what he is and hes moved past through his ptsd and depression, an instance of this is when he confronts old man zangetsu where he learns the truth about him and what he is and how Ichigo accepts him and white zangetsu since to him there the same and from this come a new power, a power strong enough to handle the coming challenges it’s an example of his growth and character arc during the first cour of tybw

@@miguelrodriguez8375 fully agree. Ichigo’s the perfect example of someone who has all the physical potential, but mentally he struggles more than anyone. It’s why I typically don’t take the ‘Talent vs Hardwork’ argument all that seriously in regards to him. He can’t utilize his Soul Reaper powers until he truly believes he can. He can’t utilize his Hollow powers until he accepts that they’re part of who he is. He can’t us his Fullbring powers until he realizes he deserves it. And he can’t utilize his Quincy powers until he’s cleared all the doubt of where he comes from.

I think many, if not most shounen protags end up in team talent, even if they started in team hardwork. Or at the very least, they tend to shuffle both sides. Naruto undoubtedly works hard BUT with Kurama and with the reincarnation bit it sort of goes out the window. Honestly, I feel like half the reason that Naruto had to work hard was because he was a dumbass with teachers who taught him things a lot later than they could have. Naruto had monstrous amounts of Chakra and if he had been told the Shadow Clone Training Hax when he was 13 instead of when he was 16, then Naruto would've gotten leagues stronger mich faster. Naruto literally has a hax jutsu that let's him do the work and training of thousands of himself at once. If he wasn't so stupid and simple minded, he could use his Shadow Clones to learn and master hundreds of different jutsus instead of spamming Shadow Clones and Rasengans like it's going out of style. Naruto won the Superpower Lottery was but was too Plot Induced Stupid to fully capitalize on it.

@@NoConsequenc3 I'd disagree cuz you can't be born with luck, it's situational. In cases where a main protagonist ist lucky then the story would just end. Simple. It's a problem tho when characters are just born talented, with no real rhyme or reason to show how their so strong or good at something. That tends to go into Mary and Gary sue territory. An example would be Naruto and Sasuke vs zabuza. Sure they show they been training as ninjas some kids but they had no real reason beating "kakashi level" ninja like zabuza, nor haku.

I think that’s what I missed when I was younger. I was really disappointed with him against Aizan, partly because of how long it took to get there, partly because it ended so quickly. But when contextualised with his growth? All he gained power for was to protect other people and he had seen all that get ravaged. So after being under so much pressure for so long? He just didn’t want the power anymore and threw it all at him to make it stop. Plus the fullbringer arc, having all the connections and growth he had made up to that point completely stop? That arc really was one hell of an epilogue to his story. Sure, I detest all the war arcs, probably because I wasn’t that interested in the captains to begin with, but at no point did it feel Ichigo had an easy time. He really was put through hell,

A few points for Goku in the talent department: he was able to learn the Kamehameha by simply seeing it once, zenkai boosts, his species has a genetic 50× power boost that other species simply don't have. He might ultimately land on the hard work side, but those are definitely talent qualifiers.

true but comparing to his own species, he started with an incredibly weak baseline so he had to get himself in entirely too many situations to keep nearly dying in order to get enough zenkai boosts to be able to stack up against those strong opponents. Against humans, he's incomparably more talented. Against saiyans, he was bottom of the barrel, especially when you consider monsters like Broly.

@@kinkajoulegend9989Yes, by Saiyan standards, Goku is definitely Team Hardwork, yet by human standards, he's Team Talent, and I don't think it's fair to judge Goku by Saiyan standards until Z. My theory is that I think breaking one's limiter requires the person to have an insanely strong will. Think about it, Darkshine was training all his life yet never broke the limiter he had he probably had a more balanced training regimen that started slow but eventually got harder compared to Saitama who immediately went for the most painful regimen the difference was Saitama had more willpower to pull through it. Darkshine pretty much gave up after his physique got ruined suggesting he had a weak will. Garou was starting to break his limiter the more he fought because his will was so strong that he kept on pushing past his intended limit but not enough like Saitama because he never nurtured it. It might have something to do with a person's willpower. They go further than their intended limit in order to break through the binding they have in order for their limiter to shatter.

Not mad at the Ichigo placement but one thing I'd like to note is most of his hard work was more mental than physical. Ichigo's character arc is similar to what you said about Naruto learning to live and conquer his inner demon, and also a journey of self acceptance. He's still a hard worker (like pretty much all of these MCs) but other than when he went into the bleach time chamber and trained for like a year nonstop he only had maybe 3 months of training. Without spoiling, Ichigo's power almost always correlate to his mental state, and take note of what zangetsu looks like when he's panicked or scared. An honorable mention on this list for me is Tsuna from Hitman Reborn, he's definitely a hardwork and has the perfect balance of training both his mind and his body. GRINDINGALLMYLIFE

Vegeta was always team hard work. Like, we never see him do anything *but* work to improve himself. It's his only hobby, his primary character trait, and his main motivation in life. He's not an elite because he was born that way (though he was), he's an elite because he takes the responsibilities of his birthright seriously. The saiyans are a proud warrior race, and their king is the greatest warrior among them. That's why he's allowed to call himself king. And that's also why Vegeta calls himself the *prince* of all saiyans. Because more than anybody else, he respects the title and everything it stands for. He has to earn it, and until there is no doubt who the greatest warrior is, he hasn't earned it.

Vegeta's can't be Team Hard work even though he works hard because he was born to be one of the strongest Saiyajin from the get-go, and if we count filler as canon, Vegata had better ways of training as a child than most low class Saiyajin.

Something to keep in mind, the hard work can often inform the talent. The people who worked hard advance the science of their art so the talented can focus on pushing it to the next level. OG Goku figured out that super saiyan exists and can be accessed, Goku Super and the new saiyans used that experience to refine in to something reliable and measurable.

If you do a part two I'd love to hear your thoughts on Simon the Digger. It's easy to put him in talent because "oh he's just supposed to be a super broken anime character" and he has a core drill. But if you take everything into consideration aside from the core drill (which doesn't make him physically stronger in any way) all of the other humans had that same potential that he did, and it was only through trial and error that he learned to be as strong as he is. The only part I can think of where Simon was saved by an unexpected outside force is when Kamina saved him from the Anti Spiral's mind prison. But even though Kamina broke him out of it, it was still Simon's power and spiral mastery that let him merge every version of himself, breaking the prison. And the only real argument I can think of against all of that is the nature of Spiral power, which is essentially "if you believe in yourself then you can do it" but saying Simon didn't work hard because of how his power works is kinda dumb because at the beginning of the series Simon didn't believe in himself and was only able to use spiral power because he believed in his friends which made it weaker then it would normally be. Anyways imma stop ranting now

To be fair to Deku, his situation is kind of a mix of both. On one hand, he has the "talent" of being able to use OFA better than Allmight and basically anyone else, but that is paradoxically because of his inherent lack of talent compared to everyone else. The only reason why he's so compatible with the quirk and those of the previous users is because of the fact that he doesn't have a quirk at all, which I consider to be different in essence to the more standard gifted characters who are super strong and talented because of their bloodline or some special ability they were born with.

Also the main reason all might and Deku can use it so effectively is because they don’t have a quirk however there is a difference. All might is capable of using one for all without any downsides because he’s quirkless but it was also weaker as all might said that he didn’t have any problems using it when he first got it like Deku Deku on the other hand is using a much more powerful version then the one all might used which causes his body to destroy itself from the power Also both all might and Deku are capable of using it because giving it to someone with a quirk would make them powerful but would also cut there life span due to the strain. I also do agree Naruto is team talent, the fact that Kurama actively disrupted his chakra as a child (hence why he failed a lot) until they got along proves it, on top of the narrative when he masters the Rasenshuriken which was supposed to symbolize him surpassing Minato who was one of the biggest talents in a generation

I don't think Luffy is just lucky either, I believe it has to do with One Piece's story being driven a lot by fate. Luffy, being Joy Boy, is DESTINED to free the world- he has to. I feel like this should be a Venn diagram or a spectrum. Gon definitely worked hard, but HXH explicitly showed that Gon has innate talent. Deku was basically given the best quirk, but he's closer to hard work.
@Dragon_Aoi
@Dragon_Aoi Жыл бұрын
I disagree, Gon trained harder than Deku imo. Yeah, he has talent, but talent can only take u so far in HxH; experience, skills, training, smarts, luck even, etc., is also important. Gon is way closer to hard work than Deku, Deku barely trained in comparison to Gon (and defin. Killua). Sure, Gon has talent, but at least he still has to work hard and train and etc., in order to actually get stronger. Deku trained and worked on some (before and after getting his quirk(s)), and then was just given an OP (basically the "best" or one of the "best") quirk(s) (and he could also use multiple other/a lot of other quirks now too), that did break his body at first (though Gon also breaks his body, but for different reasons) though, but now doesn't. So yeah, I disagree, I think Gon is closer to hard work than Deku (imo). Honestly, I would put Killua (though with Killua, he basically worked for everything he ever got/had, and/or was more like tortured/abused basically, but you know, so with Killua, while like Gon, I see as mixture between the two; i.e. hardwork and talent, he more leans towards hard work quite a fair amount to me. They are both a mixture though) and Gon probably as both talent and hard work/experience (imo). Deku, honestly, if I could, I would him under "almost/some pure good/amazing luck" (because I don't know if I would call it "talent" with him, more like luck. But I guess luck could maybe be considered a talent in some form) and some hard work. Don't hate Deku or anything, but to me, he was given a lot in the series. Way more than Gon, and way more than a lot of other characters, esp. for being a supposed underdog. At least HxH never painted Killua and Gon as underdogs unlike Deku.

Here's an interesting question: Without powers, is being built different a talent or hard work? Also Jax, that voice impression of Saitama is absolutely spot on dude!

To me Saitama is the pinnacle of team hard work: a simple human with nothing special about him who trained so hard he broke limits as a whole and became undefeatable (in his universe. Not in the mood to get into power scaling childish banter). He will always be my favorite character in anime as a whole. Edit: what did i just say?

💀💀💀 Blud Saitama is definitely not a normal human If he was, someone else in the world most definitely has done something like he has. He’s probably been gifted by god

@@Bananzia saitama is regular ass dude The different thing about saitama’s whole regimen 100 pushups 100 situps 100 squats 10km run No air conditioning in the summer No Hear in the winter 3 meals a day a banana is fine Tapping it 3 years a day everyday Then he fought monsters throughout getting stronger He had to fight monsters while getting stronger he removed his limiter by working out to the point of exhaustion then going out and fighting monsters

Bro what is y’all coping on he did a workout anyone could do and just became broken, and he saw results quick, if that’s not utilizing talent everyone would be stronger in the series
