I am this way with so many things. If I bring 6 beers to a party, I won’t leave til they’re done, and all I’ll think while I’m drinking them is, “X down, Y to go.” I think the same way when I chew gum, eat pizza, walk places, listen to podcasts, have sex…you name it, and I’m probably fixating on how long it’ll take me to ‘get through.’ It’s not learnt, it’s instinctual, and I’ve been this way my entire life. It’s a form of obsessive compulsion, and the only way I can avoid disorder is by hiding and forgetting about my negative obsessions and compulsions. I can’t set it out on the counter and admire it, but I can put it out of sight and (mostly) out of mind. To be fair, there are things I just can’t do at all. Anything physically addicting I either have to avoid or consume on rare occasion with support and guidance of my friends and family.

Veterinary technician here with a PSA Conan made me think of: xylitol is an artificial sweetener that's highly toxic to dogs, so if you give your dogs people food like peanut butter, be sure to check the ingredients for xylitol. I feel like that's not as widely known as "chocolate is bad for dogs". Edit* just wanted to add a few more little known no-no's for pets: grapes, onions, garlic, avocados, various species of plants like most succulents, lilies and cacti, etc, poinsettias, rhododendrons, there's more, but long story short: If it's not pet food, don't give it to your pet. Cheese, peanut butter, hot dogs, fine. Cooked steak? That's a quick way to possibly give a dog pancreatitis. Canned tuna for a cat? Most domestic cats don't have a digestive system equipped to deal with saltwater fish and the sodium content can cause kidney damage. It's just best practice to give your pet food recommended by a veterinarian. -With love for Conan's fans and Conan's fans pets, a humble vet tech.

It's interesting that you use functioning labels, because I am certain Conan has undiagnosed ADHD This clip here is evidence of ADHD with related dyspraxia or developmental coordination disorder. Dyspraxia is neurologically based clumsiness, but also includes not knowing intuitively how much strength to use for a task. I have ADHD and dyspraxia, and I have broken every zipper on every jacket I've ever worn. I break pencil leads every few seconds while drawing. A lot of ADHDers find their way into comedy because it's a place where our eccentric traits become positives.
@AuDHDarling Жыл бұрын
[TW: mental health, substance abuse, self-harm, suicide] Mental health issues are very common among adult ADHDers because not all of us find healthy outlets for our hyperactivity or weird brains. Our rates of drug and alcohol abuse are very high. Our rates of anxiety and depression are very high. When you combine ADHD and autism, our rates of attempted or completed suicides are very high. Jim Carrey has ADHD and depression and came from a poor family. I am very glad that he found comedy, acting, art, and everything else he does to keep himself sane. The Northern English comedian Lee Mack recently came out as an ADHDer. He is very active with work, hobbies, and meditation. His half-brother unfortunately died by suicide many years ago. ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions, like autism, can be the result of random mutations, but they are also genetic. ADHD and autism run in my family, and I have had family members end up hurting themselves and/or others, leading to death or jail. Those of us who learn to manage our atypical brains and bodies are very blessed / lucky. I am also so thankful for the internet, which has allowed me to research my conditions and connect with other neurodivergent people.

@Alphacentauri8192 жыл бұрын
@@tylermoore4429 that's interesting you see it that way. It seems like complete jest, no harm intended, observation. Many times, people who have very low tolerance for conflict (even if only perceived conflict) can often have paradigms that are warped towards that view...even when conflict doesn't exist. Also, if they are extremely conflict averse, they see any thing that isn't perfected agreement, in negative/confrontational lenses. Squabbles, btw (which this wasn't at all) often point to much deeper roots...but due to each party's investment in self protection, their idea being "right" they fail to see opportunities for connection. Those with dismissive avoidant attachment style, are way more likely to see an interaction that is mostly neutral (like this) as "combative"...along with calling normal couple disagreements.."squabbles" which to one means "combative" and to another means a normal dynamic of couples. It's interesting because I've studied psychology, relationships, communication, couples, for decades, worked in medicine and had thousands of patients...and am now working towards a PhD in neuroscience. What we believe is not always a reflection of absolute truth, but of our own biases, fears, conditioning (powerfully from childhood, and also society), cognitive distortions, limiting beliefs and so on. Even a belief like this having a "combative" dynamic, is a call to employ metacognition and introspection...vs believe our assessment outright. Be well

I’ve often thought you have intense anxiety that may manifest itself with ocd like symptoms (not diagnosing ocd at all). And when you have stronger emotions (positive or negative), you are self-soothing with pressure or other tactile stimulation. It sounds like you are oscillating between sensory seeking and sensory repulsed. And the fact your daughter has sensory stuff (auditory)…. And your dad had sensory stuff… ugh. Yeah. None of this bad, but recognizing you are self-soothing may help with self-awareness and prevention for bigger anxiety episodes. Basically, you’re instinctively helping yourself. :) *kicks soapbox down a flight of stairs* Good day, sir.
