@@7531monkey The character Jordan Schlansky is strongly based on the real-life Jordan Schlansky. Also, these scenes are obviously fairly improvised, so there are definitely situations when Jordan does feel somewhat embarrassed around Conan, because highly introverted people like Jordan aren't really that fond of a lot of hyperactive behaviour in public, even though Jordan of course is prepared for those things and most likely finds them hilarious most of the time.

Jordan was right about the etymology of the word "espresso". Although some Anglo-American dictionaries simply refer to "pressed-out", "espresso," much like the English word "express", conveys the senses of "just for you" and "quickly," which can be related to the method of espresso preparation. The words express, expres and espresso each have several meanings in English, French and Italian. The first meaning is to do with the idea of "expressing" or squeezing the flavour from the coffee using the pressure of the steam. The second meaning is to do with speed, as in a train. Finally there is the notion of doing something "expressly" for a person ... The first Bezzera and Pavoni espresso machines in 1906 took 45 seconds to make a cup of coffee, one at a time, expressly for you

@@louschwick7301 There's also a HUGE fitness following here...we're more concerned with our looks than many other countries. England and a few other countries have high numbers of obesity as well but America gets mentioned the most because we're like the prom queen of countries, everyone is always focusing on us and what we're doing.
I think there is no comedian in the world who could have improvised in those situations as funny as Conan did. This guy is Americas gift to the world and I thank you for it, from Germany.

Jordan was right in what he said. yes, the word “espresso” means the way the coffee is made, but it also means that it has to be something “fast”. in italy when we go to bars for coffee, it is rare that we ask takeaways. we ask to drink the espresso at the counter ( we sit down just if you have time and want to relax ) usually in some italian bars, especially in the south, they give you a small glass of water to use BEFORE the coffee ( to clean your mouth ) you drink your espresso and just leave. but we do like in the meantime talking to the “barista”, it’s something very common to do in italy ( I miss that a lot living now in london 😔 ) going to an italian bar is a unique experience, nothing compared to places like costa cafe, starbucks, etc
@alexiasciascia57526 жыл бұрын
yes, obviously you do a little of socialisation with - especially - the cashier xD it would be rude not to do so. but I really think that these are different things. for example in Italy a bar usually has always the same people, both at the cashier and at the counter ( for example in all the bars I go when I return to Rome, I have been "knowing" them for YEARS and YEARS ) I don't know in the US, but at least here in London I went many times to the Starbucks near my home, and there were always new people @@ so you don't have the opportunity to start knowing someone that they "dissapear" XD and then another thing that I see is that in these places ( like Starbucks, Costa Cafè etc ) people don't talk that much, staying on computer and phone. for example the last time I have been in Rome, I was at the train station waiting for my train, went to a bar for an espresso, and I just started to talk to the barista and in matter of minutes, many clients began starting talking along with us.. complete strangers. I don't know if it is like this in the UK and in the US, maybe it is but not so often I think like in Italy xD I really miss that type of thing ç_ç
