My biggest complaint with CrossFit is how terrible they are at marketing the games. They need to have a 20-30 minute highlight reel for the individual events and it needs to come out within 24 hours. Thanks for doing this as it is the closest thing I can find to games highlights.
@dawnc57972 жыл бұрын
I agree. Just finished watching Tour de France a couple weeks ago and NBC Sports had extended highlights on youtube of every stage AND Peacock streamed it live and had full stage replays without commercials (if you have Peacock premium) if you couldn't catch it live. Granted the TdF has been around for 109 years and has a huge fan base, but CF won't grow the sport or the fan base by limiting their marketing.

That’s not really an important part of marketing for sports
@tpdircks2 жыл бұрын
@@Obiamajoyisrmd people won’t sit through a full day of team and individual competition so it is essential if you want to draw more eyeballs to the sport. I have never once watched a team event during the games. The money maker for CrossFit is Men and Women Individual events. It is the only way to grow viewership. Most people aren’t going to scroll through 8 hours of games content to try and find what they want to watch. No other sport does it this way and it is a headache for even the most faithful CrossFit fan.
@Obiamajoyisrmd2 жыл бұрын
@@tpdircks CrossFit is growing tremendously without it. They want you to watch the actual events as the streaming and/or tv deals are meaningless without it. What you are getting are free highlights from various channels, which you are going to seek out anyway because it’s FREE. I also don't really like that DU crossovers came out of nowhere without really much time to practice it. At this point it wasn't really about fitness and adaptation, but who was lucky enough to do similiar thing in the past. Also, lap counting and judging should be done differently, with 40 people on the course, it was impossible to track everything. I hope that HQ learned it's lesson. Rest of the day was 🔥🔥🔥. It's such a pity, that Lauren Fisher have problems with her shoulder, I was really hoping for close fight between Mayhem and Reykjavik.

The crossfit games has always had some sort of random movement people don't ever practice or should ever feel like they needed to. They literally pull out the most random shit sometimes and like you said people just have to be lucky enough to have practiced that particular skill randomly.

Loved the programming, it exposes the athletes that are not able to adapt. Yet, what a gong show! I cannot believe the decision they made for those who did too few or too many laps. In what world championship, Olympic games, etc..would they just grandfather athletes like that? Anyone that did too few laps should have been given a goose egg and those that did too many should have been given the time they finished with. If I was a coach or athlete that actually did the even properly I would be livid right now if any of these athletes were allowed to be ranked ahead. Seriously amateurish and foolish.

Yeah I really didn't like the crossovers, I just felt bad for the ladies especially. I was shouting to my BF "this is the worst event ever". I don't think I was a big fan of the first day all together. The bike-event was just hard to follow along with as well. I think it picked up after that though, and the Saturday was much more fun to watch IMO :) I do think they're doing a better job with covering more athletes and not just the famous ones. I was so frustrated last year when for example Koski was leading one of the events at the end and they just never showed him on camera. Or when Laura got second but they only focused on Annie. It's going in the right direction now I think, and it's fun to see so many new faces on the competition floor. And as always, this content is legendary :) keep up the good work guys!

It seems to me that the "unknown" should already disappear for the sake of the show, especially if we continue to call this sport, athletes do not go blindly nor should they be "prepared for everything", also from the outside I think we make a fool of the elite of our discipline. As you say, these new skills are announced on Monday, for example, and the spectator will enjoy the performance of the athletes more.

Great Day 1 Vid, THX!! I like the crossovers new and not communicated. These are doable and common in other sports training disciplines; taxes both the mental and physical ability. I do think having only one of these in a Games is a good limit. Also the unbroken element of an ‘easy’ movement is worthwhile.
@samyg20202 жыл бұрын
2019 Rogue Invitational had the C2 Biathlon event where athletes had to shoot targets. So the CrossFit Games introducing cross-over double unders is not the craziest thing. I even remember when the peg board was brought out for the first time. Nobody had ever used one before. Having said that it would be nice if the athletes were informed ahead of time so they don't look so silly trying something they've never done on the spot.

It's like no one remembers when Rich Froning couldn't do a rope climb. How often that had been used before we saw him fail at it, I don't remember, but there are plenty of times new movements have been introduced and athletes failed at them. That being said I feel triple unders would have made more sense than crossover double unders. I do like how it shook up the field and had athletes wondering what the hell just happened. Dominance is not competition and it's not fun or engaging for spectators when they know who is going to win nearly every stage and every CF Games. I can't imagine the athletes being excited to compete for second or third though I know they're grateful to be there and compete.

So... Question: If Ricky wins, how does that portray CrossFit? To me, it demonstrates (regrettably) that short term effects of PEDs + training have better overall long term consequences in competition, than just training alone, either that, or it gives you more of an edge in a competition. What are people's thoughts on this? Also, yeah, double-under cross over was a bit strange. Triple unders I agree would have been better. But also, also... I honestly think people only believe that this programming was ok because a few males actually got past the double-under cross over section. If they didn't, it would have been labelled as poor programming. Thoughts? For double-under crossover, I noticed that the cross-over should be done with the 'first under' of the double jump, then return to the non-cross over in the 'second under' of double unders.
@kunfukai2 жыл бұрын
I hope Ricky wins! Man lost 4 of his best years, completely sidelined and ostracized by the industry with many wanting a life ban. Not in favor of using drugs for performance but he was clearly used as an example in a time where the testing was weak and most athletes were using shit. The size of the athletes during past competitions is almost impossible to obtain without enhancing drugs. So hopefully he wins to show people that it's ok and should be normal to come back from mistakes, we tend as humans to never really forgive and I hope we can change that.

@@fitnessbyconnie and @Tiago Fernandes, so I may have misworded the question, think of it without Ricky being involved, what I'm asking is: If anyone used drugs/short term PEDs, and then entered a competition and won five (or more) years later, what does that say about how someone can win or 'get good' at the sport? I'm trying to ask this as more of an objective question, not as one that is against Ricky specifically. I have no stance on Ricky being in or out of the CF games, because I don't really care if he is or isn't in the games (plus isn't my place to say if it's ok anyway, I'm just an average fella, with a science-related question).

Taking juice 5 years ago does not make you maintain a skill set and fitness level, nor does it give you that much of an advantage that you can carry it over. Zero chance. He did the work to get back here. I don’t like/care for/cheer for him. These are just facts.
@jameshansen71082 жыл бұрын
@@Greg-WBM, but juicing does increase strength in short term, therefore, if you use it on top of CrossFit games level training, over a period of time, you would expect to see a difference, e.g. say with PED 5 years ago, you get a 10% increase on your 1RM in the short term (I'm pulling that number out of thin air, I don't know how much increase PED causes for athletes in strength and/or cardio). If you did CrossFit games level training on top of this over a longer period, you will still have that 10% RM increase, by the time you come back. If that is the difference between winning and losing the CrossFit games, is that worth it? In a way, you could argue it's cheating yourself too, because you'll never know if you won by the short term effects of PED + long term effects of training, or if you would have the same long term effects of just training alone.
