Its hilarious because I can get Pokemon doing that, cuz you could make it to the top with a 35$ deck. Yugioh does not have that. There isn't a 12 year old making it to that point. So pretending its "a children's card game" is absurd at this point. The average player age is gotta be mid 20s like Magic, so why don't we act like it?

I was at this YCS. Such a shit show. Venue was way too small. The people running the event had nothing figured out. They opened way late. They had no tables for side events. They were hours behind schedule for the main event. The live stream was basically just an advertisement for Voiceless Voice (A mediocre deck right now) The judges allowing the winner of the event to play with a deck list that they didn't enter. This team Sam BS. There were not enough judges as well. One of my opponents didn't show up for a round and it took almost 20 minutes to wave down a judge to come over it was ridiculous. We had to call over a judge from a side event to mark it down. One of the rounds me and an opponent got deck checked (MID ROUND) and it took almost 15 minutes as well. The judges gave our decks back and told my opponent their sleeves were shaved and he had to get new sleeves but the judge said he didn't have to do it this round. Like wtf? The sleeves are bad enough marked that you mention it but allow this persojn to play the rest of the round vs me with possible cheater sleeves???? Just a terrible experience honestly. Glad I left early and went and did stuff thats actually enjoyable in Las Vegas. Edit: And thats not even to mention how terrible "TheSideDeck"s website is. What a terrible way to enter a deck list and caused the whole drama with the dude whose won incorrect deck list. We need to get another organization to host these events other than the side deck they are not good.
@RazorBlade651
@RazorBlade651 5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately The Side Deck runs almost every event in the Midwest and a lot of events out West, so you won't have any luck there I'm afraid. I was just at a regional run by them and while it wasn't as much of a shitshow as the YCS, it was pretty bad. They listed that they had 400 openings for the regionals, while in fact they had 240 tables. Fair enough, they're planning for some overflow. Until they let more people in. Then more, then more. In the end, the event started about 2 hours late and had about 580 people in the event. You may ask, how did they have room for 580 if they only have 240 tables? That's just it, they didn't. When the event started, they explained that everyone in tables 241 and above had to stand outside the room to wait for a table to open up. You may think, ok, they'll make the people who joined late wait outside and put them in tables 241 and above. Nope. I got there about 2 and a half hours early, but since I got assigned table 285, I had to wait outside for AN HOUR before I could start round 1. This means I played round 1 about 5 hours after I entered the venue. Oh, and this happened for every round after that until enough people dropped. So basically, until round 5, every round was over an hour and 15 minutes. The event started at around 12:00pm (150 minutes after it was supposed to start) and ended around 11:30pm. Fucking hell.

There is even a list of prohibited words, including "damn", "goddamn", "peepee" and "William Shatner" for some reason. But the funniest thing about the policy is that it will only give you a warning instead of a game loss if the swearing is not directed at the player, but instead towards their wife... If that's the case, of course, they L would come in the finals because that was his next match and he would have been just warned about swearing. If this is true, then the video is very misleading about the situation. I think Konami should have a statement about it and tell their side. It might also help their credibility if they had an official list of infraction, and what warranted 'automatic game loss' after an event, so we schmuck who weren't a part of it, directly have a proper understanding.

Others who played him were older and said he cheated along those lines. His older brother even was there who was a few years younger then I videotaped most of his matches cause his ended very quickly and his brother is one who helped him build the deck. Our game if I recall we drew - the kid still plays but only locals now cause he feels like he got cheated

However, if yugioh players want this to be looked upon as a game for adults, then we as adults do need to be professional. Sam did cost himself with that penalty because he knew the rules but it should've been applied to that match that he swore in instead of a random match in the future. That tells me that they didn't decide to apply a loss to Sam until after that match when it should've been applied immediately when it happened. As far as the swearing goes it's against the rules so Sam should have had more self control in that situation. It doesn't matter if you think the swear word is not that bad on a scale. People know what swear words are and it's easy to not use them in a professional event. Yugioh can be frustrating especially at the competetive level but you still have to keep yourself composed.

As a judge on a different card game, Cardfight Vanguard, in the finals we have to be VERY STRICT with the ground rules (thats a different set of rules only judges have access to), we have to play devil's advicate and mark cautions and warnings to player for any single mistake, missplay or miss behavior. As much as I like Sam's content, if he commited a foul and got a warning for misconduct or missbehavior before, it goes to a list where warnings are written in order to have a control, if Sam got a second warning for the same reason, no matter the round, it does become a game loss; its like in soccer, you get two yellow cards, you get expelled. It seems Konami floor rules are as harsh as Bushiroad's (Vanguard's developer).

Don’t get me wrong, I understand wanting stricter rules during the finals, and if they want to assign a game loss, fine. But I don’t understand why the penalty from a Semifinals game would ever carry? What if they didn’t make it? Does it just go unpunished? It seems unnecessary to not punish the semifinals game, and then give a Game Loss penalty in the finals. It’s a weird competitive ruling, and also a terrible viewing experience.

The comparison with football makes no sense. You get sent off for two yellow cards in the same game, but you can receive one every single game. In addition: What's the purpose of secret rules only for judges? How should I know how to behave if I don't have access to the rules?

@@BlanekdCheque I understand your point of view man. However, and as I stated, the "punishment" can occur no matter the round, even if the first warning happen on the semifinals or before, your name is not deleted from the warnings list even of you reach the finals. It sucks, I know, but I didnt make the ground rules. Also, and you'll probably laugh at this, there are players that know the ground rules or learn from previous experiences and can abuse of that knowledge in order to get easy wins that goes beyond letting the time run out. Edit 1: there are ways to undo warnings if there is enough evidence AT THE MOMENT, yes, judges can make mistakes as well, thats why head judges exist.

Haven’t played in a long time but from my experience the biggest problem was favoritism within the judges vs some players. so giving Sam a game loss in potential next round could have been favoritism towards the anticipated next team. You’d see the exact same judge call with totally different outcomes. Judges seem to listen and favor the more “experienced players” experienced players know this and use it almost as a shark move during matches. Reminds me of Roy saint claire getting away with countless sharking or blatant cheating with the help of judges.

I think this is a terrible opinion and clearly uninformed in regards to tournament policy. Behaving inappropriately on camera at a live-streamed event is considered a UC-Severe per the penalty guidelines. This means he should or could have received a disqualification, and never would have had a chance to play in the finals. Nobody will know the details of the investigation that took place in regard to this penalty, and why it occurred between rounds. Even if a mistake was made, judges aren’t perfect, but without them, playing the game at this level wouldn’t be possible, and it appeared that per the policy documents that Sam received leniency. Sam deserves the utmost respect for taking this in stride, regardless of the outcome as starting the final round with a game loss is an immense challenge to try to overcome, and then having extreme positivity after losing is impressive.
