There was a time when I went into a used games shop because I felt like playing an absolutely generic action shooter. I picked a random game off the shelf based solely on the cover art. That game was... not this game. This was the sort of thing I was expecting, but instead I played _Vanquish,_ a pretty excellent third-person shooter from Platinum games with their signature style and polish, and some cool mobility and bullet time tech.

While I loved Vanquish back in the day, I'd actually say it's a bit overrated by people nowadays. The combat is incredibly fun and stylish, however the story, soundtrack to an extent, environments, etc., leave A LOT to be desired.

@@stuckintheinbetween oh for sure, it's not a perfect game. The enemies were all generic robots and there wasn't a huge variety in scenery, it was all just vague sci-fi industrial areas. The characters had some moments but it was also just so short that you didn't get to explore any of them. But considering I only payed like three quid for it and I was expecting something of Quantum Theory quality, I was pleasantly surprised. It's perfectly possible for a game to be overrated and still be at least kinda good

@@WolfWalrus I was hoping for a bit more style and personality from the characters given Platinum's other games. It ended up being pretty dull on that front, sadly. I wanted the characters and the story to match the craziness of the action. I liked how the main character smoked while in cover -- that was a neat little touch. It reminds me of how the main character in Devil's Third, Ivan, drinks from his flask while in cover.

There's something about worst games when they're aimed at a more adult gamer I particularly enjoy. I think it's the (wrong) idea that kids will play any old rubbish. Where as the thought of grown-ups sitting around thinking what would be cool and it invariably isn't makes me smile.

it's a reference to hot fuzz...when some one makes a reference and the people watching only know the reference that the reference was referring too....how do you still find it good when you don't seem to get their reference....The real saying is judge jury and executioner. It's a hot fuzz reference because the co star says it because he doesn't know the saying.... it seems like an English thing to make these type of jokes, look at trailer park boys. Rickiisms. "cut of your nose to spiderface" instead of to spite your face.

Why is everything covered in lumpy grey charcoal, so this is a very very very bad gear of war clone. Surely if they made the guys armour/guns and the scenery less charcoal and lumpy, they could have actually made better use of the polygon count and at least made it look a little good.
