Great reaction to an Oscar winning classic....if you want to see another great movie with Jessica Tandy (and one that she made with her real life husband, Hume Cronyn) is *Batteries Not Included (which was also produced by Steven Spielberg). It is an 80s movie definitely worth watching that not many reactors on KZbin have done yet.

"Did I ever tell you about the first time I ever been outside the state of Georgia?" "No, when was that?" "Oh, a few minutes ago." Fun Fact: Theatrical film debut of Jen Harper, uncredited. Music Enthusiast Fact: Hans Zimmer's score was done completely with synthesizers, all of which he played. No orchestra was used. Historical Fact: The Temple bombing took place in 1958. The Martin Luther King Jr. meeting in Atlanta took place in January, 1960. Alfred Uhry based the story of Daisy and Hoke on his own grandmother Lena G. Fox (August 5 1877 - Feb 22, 1973) and her chauffeur Will Coleman (dates unknown). She lived to the age of 96. Three black men are seen crossing railroad tracks in Atlanta. All three of these men are descendants of Will Coleman, which the "Hoke" (Morgan Freeman) character was based upon. Accolades Fact: Jessica Tandy won the Best Actress Oscar for her role as Daisy Werthan. At age 81, she is the oldest winner of a Best Actress Oscar. She was the oldest winner for a competitive Oscar until 2012 when Christopher Plummer won Best Supporting Actor for Beginners (2010) at age 82. Features Dan Aykroyd's only Oscar nominated performance. The film is the only adaptation of an off-Broadway production ever to win an Academy Award for Best Picture. One of only six films to win an Academy Award for Best Picture without also being nominated for Best Director.

This and "The Hunt for Red October" were among my dad's favorites. He passed in 2008 after various health issues at the age of 58. He had non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in the early 90s and a spate of others issues afterward. What killed him was congestive heart failure. When I watch these movies, I get a piece of him back.

Love this one. Another vehicle for Jessica Tandy is Fried Green Tomatoes. Also Kathy Bates it's a flashback story that deeply influences the contemporary story line. Don't want to say too much, but it's a great comedy drama One of my mother's earliest memories was being in large cardboard box at the end of a cotton row. That's were women put the babies who are to young to go off and play. Those cardboard boxes weren't segregated. Many have noted that when MLK was killed he was planning The Poor People's March on Washington.

This movie was on TV a lot when I was growing up and I always enjoyed it, I think I grew up being slightly uncomfortable dealing with the subject matter and basically just what a tender movie it is (there was enough peer pressure at the time that that was considered weak or effete or what have you), but in hindsight that was me being underdeveloped and now it's just wonderful. A simple plot summary doesn't sound too enticing but "It sucks you in" as you said. They did a great job of using the Miss Daisy character to show growth from "I'm not prejudiced" in thought to "I'm not prejudiced" in action.

I first saw this play in nyc with Morgan Freeman and Dana Ivey. it was marvelous, and very moving. they did a wonderful job with this film. the acting is on the highest level. I am so glad that Morgan Freeman got to do the movie, often the actors who originate the roles onstage, don't end up getting to do the movie. and then I was so thrilled that Jessica Tandy got this last great role and won her Oscar. she was a brilliant actress, but she had never gotten that important role in film that she deserved. Jessica Tandy was the only original leading cast member of the stage production of A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE that didn't get to do the film. The great Vivienne Leigh had done the role of blanche onstage in London, plus she was also a genuine movie star. She is brilliant casting as blanche, but I did always feel bad for Tandy. luckily, the movie of STREETCAR is one of the great dramatic movies to ever come out of Hollywood. And quite a good adaptation of the play, especially for the time with the Hayes code stipulations and such. so many good actors. so many great movies. amazing.

Thanks for the great reaction! I love watching movie reactions and Driving Miss Daisy is overlooked by the ones I watch frequently. It’s refreshing to see someone who isn’t overly focused on the racial overtones in this film. You don’t cast judgment or aspersions on that part to the detriment of enjoying the film, as a whole. At the same time, you highlight the injustice of it. The few reactions I’ve seen can’t get past that and they end up disliking the movie, itself.

I saw this movie when it first came out. As a black person who was raised during Jim Crow I am 75 years old. My family on both sides has it roots in Slavery. There are many problems. But most reoccurring is that Morgan used the "Negro" voice -- subservient and deferential. My father and grandfathers did not talk that way. I stopped watching your reaction halfway through -- it was all I could take of the movie. Here is another movie put out the same year that I recommend - "Do the right thing" by Spike Lee.

For whatever reason, this comment made me bust out laughing, thank you. 🤣 Can’t be a con though, I deliver exactly what I say. (Although I prefer to call it watching WITH me 😉)

so you have somehow missed the rise and rise of the "reaction channel" on KZbin?? there are so many! people react to music, to movies, to real life events-like news clips that show us who were the heroes on the day of 9/11. people react to comedians, to food, to real estate. and most channels don't actually "charge" per se to see their content. one can usually see their reactions in a bit of an abbreviated way on their respective KZbin channels for free. however if one wants to see a more extensive version of their reaction to something, usually you have to join their patreon channels, which does indeed cost something extra. chris is right though-he is no "con". he is completely honest about what he has on his channel. and one doesn't have to spend a dime to enjoy his response to movies, music. and events.
