This was really informative! I am a last year medical student that works in heathtech marketing but looking to learn and explore options in healthtech sales as well. Based in your insights I can see the advantage I could have working with other fellow doctors when it comes to sales. Thanks !

I work in Tier 3 enterprise support. I was an account manager when I ended up getting shuffled around at a new job and basically moved into CS to avoid getting laid off. Now im looking to make a bigger impact and that means leaving this dept - whether thats as a Product manager, or another CSM or an AE. 😮

Great video! I made the opposite decision based on my personality. Had a $130k offer at Salesforce for an AE position but took a job as an ASR for a med device company for much much less to break in. I cannot sit in an office all day or work from home. I need different environments and face to face selling so I chose med device. It was hard to say no to the tech salary but I'll be there in a year or two with med.

Love to see different perspectives, thanks Ryan! I'm curious, aside from the office vs. selling in the field, were there any elements of your background that also made you lean towards med device?

Great video. I’m currently in the military and own a paternity testing business on the side. My natural inclination is to look into medical sales (medical software or maybe something in the DNA/genetics side because of familiarity), but tech sales definitely seems like something I’d look into. I appreciate the information you got there. Going to check out your other videos.

I'm a med student in the UK but taking a year out to explore my other options/whether I really want to go down the medicine route. It interests me, but my priorities have changed in life. I don't want to devote my life to it, as is commonly expected (long days, nights, on-calls, hours of unpaid work to bolster applications for specialty training posts etc). And in the UK, where I am, the NHS is not a very good place to work (poor pay, constant undermining of doctors by the public and NHS). So, I am quite drawn to sales as a career and med sales was the natural first choice. But, I'm actually looking into tech sales too as, as you mentioned, it's a bit more lateral, not as rigid and there's a lot more variety. I love being in ORs and observing surgeries but I understand med sales doesn't offer the same level of QoL as tech sales. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Not necessarily. Any particular tech you are looking into? Tech sales could definitely be a great fit but med device companies (and doctors you sell to) would be very excited by your medical background. How far into med schooling are you?

@@techsales-higherlevels I have a couple years left of med school and I get that these companies would look favourably on my experience. But want to keep my options open and see what's out there. Especially considering med sales is quite field-based, which I don't know if I'd enjoy or not. In terms of areas of tech, I'm really starting at ground zero here and don't have much knowledge. But as a whole, I like the industry which is why I'm interested in potentially breaking in.

Hi Eric, quick question: can your medical device sales experience transfer in the tech sales space? or are you looked at as someone who has no experience to a tech recruiter?
@techsales-higherlevels
@techsales-higherlevels Жыл бұрын
It definitely can, but I'd set proper expectations that pending your experience you're probably gonna have to come in as an SMB AE. I see some med reps with 10 years of experience wanting $200k+ and a big title making the move and in many cases its not gonna happen (or they won't be successful making the change anyhow if they take a huge role right out of the gate). How many years of experience do you have? Happy to help, keep me posted

@@techsales-higherlevels oh i see, thank you for that explanation. Honestly, I don’t have any relevant experience yet im still deciding on what sector I want to commit to. but i was just curious though because I was wondering if you’re in sales, wouldn’t that sales experience be good for hiring managers regardless of the industry (pharma, medical, tech, etc)?

Med device reps a bunch of ex jocks / chads looking to intimidate docs into buying. Most Ive met are total tool bags think they're special for selling when brand has always been used with or without them.

Not inconsistent with my experience and some of the people I met. There are some decent folks, but across the board tech felt much more natural to me. Less political and more about solving big problems. Are you in sales?
