Great video👍🏼 it’s also good to note is to check those drain slots are not blocked.. I had that on my defender when I bought it second hand, found it when I did the air intake sealing. Never had an issue with water in the snorkel.

Great video. I turned my Ironman snorkel around as it would whistle. Now I don't have a whistle anymore. Little more throttle noise, but that is ok.

Excuse my ignorance, In the case of driving through water, wouldn't the water get in through the Drainage of the air filter ? My car is Nissan Patrol Y61 with the 3.0 crdi engine. I ask because I would like to install a Snorkel but mainly because sometimes the street of my city get flooded.

Hello Mic. Is there any benefit at all, besides the in snow conditions to turn the snorkel head around? I sometimes see people driving with the snorkel head turned around but does not make complete sense, or is it just for the “look”?

Hi Willie, There is no benefit whatsoever turning the head around. It will make more noise, as the air intake will be louder turning the head around.

Your so full of it, my safari snorkel in heavy rain for 4 hours at speeds of 100 kilometres. My air cleaner was all wet. Ram heads are useless in serious heavy rain. I installed a donalson pre cleaner head problem solved in heavy rain no wet air filter..

So when you are in deep water, the airbox will fill up through that drainage hole?.... If not, why the snorkel?

Hi Dániel. Ironman 4×4 Snorkels benefit from increased airflow to the engine and a raised air intake to minimize the chances of water ingress. Therefore it is highly recommended to follow the Wading depth that is set by the manufacturer of your vehicle and is determined by a number of crucial factors. These include the location of sensitive electronics, and other venerable areas

What about a dust and /or sandstorm which we are more likely to face in Africa.I will turn it around because the air filter I dont think needs an overlarge amount of dust and sand to filter it out.

Hi Johan. Driving through a dust or sand storm is never a good idea due to poor visibility. If it is absolutely unavoidable, turning the snorkel head around will have very little if any effect on the amount of dust or sand ingressed through the snorkel head. Your engine is sucking vast amounts of air while running and the snorkel head is like a large vacuum cleaner. Best to pull over, switch off and wait for it to subside. If you are operating in dusty conditions all the time, you should consider replacing the conventional snorkel head with a Donaldson type cyclonic pre-filter housing.

Yes. Some snorkels will provide much more air than the stock intake. Most if not all engines are designed to run with less air than normal for those driving at high altitudes. Intaking more air than stock is usually not a issue, but can lead to to slightly more wear and tear due to increased hp.

Recorded about 2L/100km on average decrease in consumption. Loved my snorkel. New build, another snorkel on its way in the post. Cant wait!

For those wanting to turn their 4WD into a Submarine, it might be a good idea to plug up the drain hole in the air box. Because essentially, that's the lowest point in your intake system, and water can get sucked up through there. But on the other hand, then you lose the ability to let water droplets drain that go into the airbox. Though on land cruisers with the metal airbox, they have a separate bowl on the bottom that collects debris and droplets.
